  • Hey man , what the hell is that air fed mask your wearing? Iv never seen one of them. It looks like your ready for the moon, not paint a car.

  • @bobbrudenell

That is a 3M product actually. It is their PAPR and I use one all the time. If you do look in to one, I would suggest the tool belt suspenders like the ones I have on in the video to help carry the weight of the unit. It's not THAT heavy, but I hate it when it would slide down so the suspenders were the best change I made to the setup. They aren't cheap, but they work great if you are in the booth all the time and don't feel like dragging a separate air hose for fresh air around.

  • @sixt9coug Used this same set-up for tub refinishing. Looks like the same gun too. Same pot - bagged. An HVLP three stage turbine...."Hawk 993 3 Stage"...gave an awesome finish, spraying a urethane base finish. Not a waterborne though.

  • @bobbrudenell hahah. fresh air mask..it flows fresh air through it

  • @bobbrudenell lol

  • I don`t know the number of the clear paint that was used, would there be a way I would know for sure that the primer would stick?

  • So it is a basecoat and clearcoat paint job on there now? If that is the case you shoudlnt need anything special. The only time you will have to worry is if you are painting over laquer paint itself. Enamels and urethane paints will be fine with almost all primers ont he market now. Laquer alone will need something special to make sure it sticks, but the body shop or paint store you go to should be able to point you in the right direction.

What brand of paint do you want to use now?

  • I`m about to paint my car in a month or two it was done with solvent based lacker, but now you can only buy waterbased paints here,do I proceed like the olden days, primer, base lacker?

  • The only thing different you might have to do is make sure you have a primer that will stick to the existing paint, and use that. Waterborne paints also have to be generally finish sanded slightly finer than solvent paints did as well. Dependng on where you are located, the only thing that really changed is the basecoat itself. The primers, clears and other products are still most likely the same products that have been out ont eh market for the last few years.

  • what is the purpose of an orientation coat?

  • The purpose of the orientation coat is to ensure that the metallic has an even appearance on the panel. With the color i used here, it wasn't as critical, but other colors such as silvers, golds or dark greys you run the chance of leaving stripes or blotchiness because of how the metallic is oriented.

Doing the orientation allows the metallic to set on the top in a way that it covers all of that up and it looks nice and even with no pattern visible when its all dried and done.

  • Is this "orientation" same thing as Drop Coat?

Lower pressure and littla further from surface jus to ensure metallic set well and is uniform?

  • Yes sir, it most certainly is. Just a different name, but otherwise its the same thing.

  • k. thanks.

  • what is the purpose of an orentation coat?

  • Yo Mr. S, no wonder you got it on fast, with that turbo stuck on your ass ;)

  • Well the jobs can never be done fast enough right? Gotta get it done at any cost, even with some personal modifications ha ha.
