Don't confuse Catholics with Christians. Christians split off from them, becoming what's known as Protestants. The Koran is filled with words that god said directly to Mohammed. So Muslims take it as the true word of god (directly, not indirectly). I strongly dislike this type of audience; one that doesn't just applaud validation ('he thinks like us, we approve'), but applauds validation at a safe show; in this case, where they know it won't be a conservative fest. How many Sarah Palin and Religion jokes can you make? He spent years as a tireless persecutor, and murderer of Christians, then one day he became a devout Christian and desired to learn everything he could about Christ from the original apostles, why? The only reasons I can see why Islam , at least by christians, is portrayed negatively are: The growth in Numbers, The ignoring of Christian History even 100 years ago (remember Islam is younger than Christianity), The lack of understanding regarding certain practices, as with Bill and Christians, and the fact that it's only been in the last 10-20 years where the internet revolution began that most people in the US or EU ever heard anything, from one guy ranting like a far right politician

@particle58 I would have to disagree that Christianity is not a violent faith, or rather the interpretation of several texts can be seen as violent such as Deuteronomy 21:20-21.
I'm not disputing that Islam has a definite violent side, but as you point out it's the "people" who can be violent which I feel is the key to it all, as my former flat-mate was a Muslim as was the most peaceful of the three of us. The people are the issue, not the faith, i mean how many popes were really peaceful

Outside St. Peter of course. Anyhow, the difference between 21st century christianity and 21st century islam is the model set forth by their founders, and their companions. If you want to know the difference between the two, compare the gospel to the quran, compare Jesus to muhamad.

@particle58 I apologize if I appear to be moving away from your point, Just to me the true comparison of faiths is not the words of the texts, it is the actions of the believers. The whole "Practice what you Preach" idea, and frankly I find many in both sides cause huge issues, the same as many others show the goodness in faith and humanity (such as the Salvation Army). I guess that is just the different viewpoints, so sorry if I still see things through my eyes.

Don't confuse Catholics with Christians. Christians split off from them, becoming what's known as Protestants. The problem that remains is that Catholics call themselves Christians, where historical accounts describe the opposite behavior - even their Bible is polluted compared to the originals. Unlike Muslims, Christianity had the right foundation, where Islam was founded on a liar, murderer and pedophile. There really should be no comparison.

@DreadStorm I am a Southern Baptist and you have no idea what you're talking about. The Catholic Bible was the original Bible and Protestants remvoved seven books from it when they put the King James version together. All of the other books are the same (apart for different tranlations) in both.

It tells you how the system should work, how laws should be passed and how to treat homosexuals and unbelievers. Therefor it can never and should never be treated as a regular religion like "Christianity". Christians know that the bible is man made, Muslims think the Koran is the word of god.

With that said, you are absolutely correct in that Islam has a lot more direction and influence on its followers politics, than christianity in its current practice in the west. The Koran is filled with words that god said directly to Mohammed. So Muslims take it as the true word of god (directly, not indirectly). But I agree with you that most Christians are much more "sane" than Muslims.

Islamic imperialism and the need for violent conquest to subdue foreigners was not a response or a reaction, it occurred before England was a country and before the first Crusade, which it triggered.
The Arabs did have religion, it was suppressed, stolen and absorbed by Muslims.

God knows who believes and to have a fair god, it is for certain every human has to account "BY" their sins and not "FOR" their sins. Remember. God will show us who's in charge.

As a whole, the Quran doesnt contradict while in the Bible, you can find many contradictions when read as a whole. there are many examples where you can find online or through any learned scholar. English is inferior to the semetic languages. Thats why whever you translate something to english, meanings get lost.modified/changed.
