  • lol. self atari. what a costly mistake.

  • I do that sometimes. Not sure why.... like the God of Go eases my mind into thinking playing into atari is safe or something. I always feel so foolish afterwards!

  • This is called an epic fail!! :))

  • He's like, really? Really??? Ok, I can do that. I think I'd be rather ashamed to win a lost game this way.

  • @ExologistTV I would be too, normally. However, if the game is only a 1.5 or 0.5 point difference (which happens often in pro games), a move like that could affect the whole outcome of the game, if you don't take it.

  • Man, you guys. White's right side group is dead and Black's upper right corner is dead. Black has sente because without the mistake, 5-12 will be captured in a connect-and-die. I believe Black's best move is on the bottom right, three points gote. Ignoring prisoners, I count B 84, W 76.5, B+7.5. And it seems Black has more prisoners. Close game by our standards, but a huge lead for Black by professional 9-dan standards.

  • you're tight it's gote, epic fail for me :P but black is losing sente with next move anyways and w has some sente but yeah probably his game is lost. but I don't think b has 84 points, more like 80 so it is still difficult I suppose, at least not shamefully lost as some seemed to imply, I mean you can't just see white's group is dead and conclude w loses of course if he got such loss and didnt resign most likely he got enough compensation. I think even a pro needs to count to tell.

  • I think most people who commented is prejudiced. w right group IS dead but so is b top right (a bit smaller but still big) I counted and recounted b is indeed ahead by a few points (counting komi) but I'm talking about 5 or 6 actual points (didnt see the variations to the end) , but white gets sente so it's pretty much even, if not better for white. that is ALSO the reason b wanted to get these points and pass to other areas, and he eventually got distracted. I'm assuming b has 12 right?

  • 9 dan?!?! WTF

  • @fabyooos whatsthat supposed to mean? XD

  • LOL!!! such a game from 9-dan? what a waste...

  • Those games must be so exhausting! Especially when they play over several days. Wow! The fact that losing concentration is rare, is amazing in itself.

They're on a totally different level than I can imagine...

    :o)

    Guess they're human, after all...

    J

  • failllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • Woooooow.....

  • The girl sounds like she's going to have some kind of weird orgasm over it or something.

  • Epic fail!

  • And that, is why you never resign... You never know.

  • @chefkoo everyone knows.

  • @chefkoo Black went on to win this game, but anyway, a victory won because your opponent happened to make a beginner's mistake is meaningless. It's a bad habit to play thinking, "this looks hopeless, but it's okay because maybe my opponent is an idiot." You should assume your opponent is as smart as you are, if not smarter, and if you don't see any way to pull out a win that doesn't depend on him screwing up, you should respectfully resign.

  • @cengime His pay cheque would disagree.

  • @cengime ... there is absolutely no way that black could win after that blunder... when he made that mistake, he killed his whole group. That means that white has over half the board just in moyo. And with the captured stones, black just cannot keep up. Where did you see that Black went on to win this game?

  • @Flamberge123 I'm sorry, you're right. The person who sent me this link told me that black ultimately won, but GoBase says the result was actually W+R.

  • Whoops. XD

  • 0:20 - 0:28 she sounds like she's having an orgasm or something

  • yur black has totally had it,,,

  • hahaha

  • its not just in that area. Black is just totally dying all over the place

  • @MajinWamu Yeah, that upper right hand corner looks painfull, and there is no way to save it. Black lost this match well before that slip up there.

  • @42jemini thats what my eyes were glued to when I watched this. I didnt even pay attention to the captured pieces until the end of the video

  • @MajinWamu well, when playing go "gluing" your eyes to a corner is not how you will become good... If you were to look at the board overall you would realize that black was actually winning the game. Of course after this move the all group dies, so...

  • @stanko51 did you at least bother to count? if there was that big difference w would have definitely resigned, or at least b wouldnt have been as focused (on other parts of the board) as he was in the game the dead w stones in the left make 38 points (that is, 19 stones) whith the rest it amounts to a bit over eighty, plus 12 captures w has 70 something plus 9 captures plus 6.5 komi PLUS sente you sure can't say he's losing big time. looks often mislead, count before giving the scores...

  • @42jemini actually black was winning. corner looks painful, but how does the white group right below look to you?

  • @stanko51 That formation takes 4 (actually 5 if you want to avoid placing your own stones in atari) moves just to force it to connect to annother formation that easily has 2 eyes. The corner however can be killed in just 1 move which can be placed in either of 2 places at P1 or P2. So if black tries to save it by playing in one of those two places, all white has to do is take the other space.

  • @42jemini still not seeing it huh?

The white group in middle right is ALREADY dead...... just like the black group in top right corner. So both players has a big group dead (actually white one's bigger).

  • @stanko51 I have no idea what you are looking at, but from these comments, I am going to assume it is the white formation 2 below the black formation in the corner. If so, then it is still 1 move away from dead. As is, it can live by going to R12 and then S 13 or 14 depending on black's response.

Other than that, you probably missed that the REALLY LARGE black formation in the lower left is now dead and would have died even without this mistake. All white would have to do is take F9.

  • @42jemini If black don't play this mistake but 2 cases lower (taking 1 white stone) the group's alive......

About the middle right white group (the one on R10), i give up explaining. Sorry if you can't figure this for yourself.

  • @stanko51 Ok, you are right about the way to save the black group but the move I just explained would save the white group on R 10 you were talking about. The confusion before is because you were not clear enough about explaining which group you were reffering to.

  • eh? uh?? UHH?!?

  • "oh F__K".......guy on the right.."hehehe...."

  • how to lose a winning game :D

  • Ahh. Snap back

  • Black is dead :D I feel much stronger now :3

  • PWND

  • He did it for the lulz...

  • OH LOL! White's face was like :O... ;D

  • lol in the background " Oh yeah OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Yea good" XD

  • here just let me get rid of that liberty that was annoying you so much.

  • Ahhhhh....he meant to play two points below, where he would have captured a piece and also put a piece in Atari.

Hey, just goes to show even the best make mistakes. A real uplifter for a a 24 kyu like myself lmao

  • Wow, Black lost around 70-80 points on this blunder....

  • @IcyVegeta Uh... looks like about 12 points to me.

  • @IcyVegeta No, my bad. I didn't realize that group needed the eye at first ^^

  • What type of go stones are these?

  • my favorite self atari pro XD

  • would guiles theme song go with this?

  • @jaggerbite What kind of question is that? It goes with everything.

  • Go is better than sex -- Emperor Guang Yi, Song Dynasty.

  • @jwrosenbury u fucken virgin

  • haha pause it at 0:00

you can see he wanted to play 1 space below that, taking the white stone and atari from the other side. just a simple mistake from being tired, i guess.

  • リアルタイムで見てたけど、何年たっても笑いをおさえきれない。

  • fffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • @radiochango Thumbs up for reference to reddit.

  • rofl!

  • This hasn't really got anything to do with this, but if you like playing go - please take a look at our "Famous go games re-enacted" productions! It's a series of movies where we re-enact famous go games in a very dramatical, Hikaru no Go-ish style (You've all seen "ban go" by clhj right? It's like that, but even more awesomeness ^_^).

Go to my channel and check them out! We just released "The Game of the Century" - I'd recommend that one first. Thank you :D

  • Anyone notice that not only did he get captured, but he lost the ENTIRE group? good job 9d lol good job

  • Comment removed

  • D9 would be terrible. F8 is the right move, at least locally, (1pt sente+ reverse sente), tenuki is an option too, but I can't see bigger points than this.

  • Il the end, it seems that W let B try again, because he gives back the stone he captured

  • @Sogeking05 Wow.... is that valid?

  • @KrankesHirn yeah lol

  • @kenzopmatsushita

    And the commentator says "love"

  • I've seen it 5 times...just...ah...We humans are inscrutable.

  • omg... everytime i watch this - major cringe

  • a 9 dan PRO made that mistake? Why did he not connect at D-9

  • Ouch.

  • that was very stupid = =

  • omg lol 9d self atari xD

  • I think the announcers took their good 5-6 seconds to realize what's going on because they just couldn't wrap their mind around a 9p commiting that mistake heh.

Like... Hold on, that must be some sort of... Trap... No, wait... Is it THAT stupid?

  • I hope there will be more of this videos soon. I like them to watch.

  • What a stupid man.

  • @steamsword1 Just everyone makes mistakes. Pros are not exception.

  • Hard to say who was winning considering the two dead groups on the right side...seems Black was leading but maybe I'm wrong...ouch^^

  • @BenThunder I count black up by 4-5 points on the board and sente (before the mistake), but white has komi.

  • @jm0n3y21

Its more like 12-15 points, black ahead, 6.5 komi included.

W is really, REALLY lucky, that he didn't resign before this hude mistake :D

  • @BenThunder black resigned towards the end of the clip

  • @EarThChen This I had understood, was just telling he was leeding before the huge mistake

  • @BenThunder black's bottom left is dead

  • @shibby1602 Without the mistake it was alive, but nevermind, just saying he was winning before he mad the mistake of playing there instead of eating the other stone.

  • Atari on the wrong side. Beneath the white stone would have capture both stones as well. He must have be very tired and lost concentration.

  • Man, you can hear his 9 dan fall to 10kyu from all they way over in america.

  • Bum

  • guys i made a go club group if u wanna join come to my channel

  • Comment removed

  • its no snapback.

    its self-atari

  • I wish I knew what the announcers were saying. But I can tell they were quite surprised.

  • I'm a complete noob to this game, but even I saw that as losing even before reading the title.

  • wow, his entire group is dead because of this blunder xD

  • he lost even if he somehow made it live

  • And he was winning... LOL

  • on kgs go server the biggest board you can play on is 38x38 but 19x19 is most commen

  • 這種事情經常發生

  • I almost did this last night at Go club. I noticed -right- before I took my finger off the stone.

I still lost by about 30 points though, but hey, I'm learning.

  • I think we all know this kind of pain ^^

  • a longer clip from this match: pH2lAlxvfVA

  • the 19x19 is the biggest board on wich the sides are more important than the ceter, therefore its the biggest board played. Of course if u want, u may experiment with bigger ones, but there's hardly any strategy for them in literature etc. Its stricte for fun

  • is the largest board 19x19 or is there larger?

  • 19x19 is the only board size played seriously. Occaisonally 9x9 and 13x13 are played, but they are mainly for teaching beginners and for people just messing around with a quick game. Sometimes computers are played on these smaller boards as well, as they tend to be stronger on them.

  • wow.. lmao thats so gg

  • How is this even possible?

  • And this kids is what happens when you lose concentration XD

  • a 9 dan lol that can see an 30kyu

  • oh myyyy... well, if 9dans make that kind of mistakes, i guess any of mine is justified :D

  • Oh my... thats...crazy... O.O

  • I saw this and was like "oh crap did he just do that?" Then the announcers were going "ah! ah! ah!" and I cracked up. Of course I doubt I would have been able to spot it so quickly if it weren't for the description , I just started playing recently, and I'm still learning the basics :D

  • wow! complicated board! i had to watch it twice to see what happened!

  • el error mas estupido q he visto ni un 30kyu hace eso

  • He must of been very nervous to have made that move!

  • what happened did he forget to put sumthing there so he took his stone things or the older guy did some kind of combo

  • The younger player put himself into atari, that five-stones group, which means that after his move that group had only one last liberty left, whereas the older guy filled it and captured that black group, and black resigned

  • thanks man because i didnt kno what was going on. sounds like you kno how to play this game, how did you find out how to play?

  • there is this very good program called "igowin" try googling it and you will find it easily. All the rules are explicitly explained there. Though there's not many rules in GO :) second, "many faces of go try looking this up on the internet, it's also a very useful program for novice ad also advanced gameplay against NPC. when you learn the basics, drop me a message, we can play some time ;)

  • o thanks man and sure when i get it whats your name going to be mine will b seysay like always lmfao

  • In Go, any stones you completely surround are captured and removed from the board. Black just played a move that allowed a large chunk of his stones to be captured. To understand just how costly this move is, however, requires you to know how to play Go. It's fun, you should learn!

  • th eopponent was collecting the black stones in that area just in the last scene x) poor guy

  • i want to watch what happen before

  • oh dear. He lost quite badly in one move..

  • He lost around 80 points on a single move :)

  • watch?v=pH2lAlxvfVA

  • did he resign just after that move? looked like it.

  • Yup, he had nothing to do, I think the game was lost after that move :) It looked really painful, just as anagondragon said ;)

  • pitiful

  • Ah! Self Atari! Ouch!

I groaned in pain when I saw that. T_T

  • Ten Points! D:

  • Much more, the whole group died :P

  • Yeah, especially in a game this level. A tiny mistake can cost you everything! I love this clip!

  • haha, well atleast he is well known for that mistake now :D

  • The best thing about this video is the comentator's "EH?!? O.o" ... My... I wouldn't contract this guy to teach me go...

  • even 9-dan's make such mistakes? wow i thought they were nearly perfect players :D

  • Yeah, nearly perfect :p But, I wouldn't rely that a 9 dan would make such a mistake on a game:P

  • lol

    no goodd

  • what a mistake.....

  • What I would like to know is how he managed to pick up the stones like that.

  • i thought the same :-)

  • yeah pretty crazy skill there, i can only pick up empty triangles with that same technique xD

  • I think what he did was he used three fingers to pick up 3 of the edge stones, then nabbed the center stone along with it.

  • @lasercannonfire That's what being a pro is all about :)

  • @lasercannonfire he's a 9-dan....he's probably picked up more stones than me and u have taken shits.

  • wow... entire groups dead now :(

  • he missed! lol i think he was aiming for just under the white stone it wuld have liked there

  • Но даже про ошибаются, верно)

  • а чего он вообще хотел добиться сходив туда?

  • Goes to show that even the best of the best can make simple mistakes.

    XD

  • it sounds like these guys are playing and those two behind are having sex :)

  • @dejan19990 I suggest you learn Japanese before you make yourself sound stupid.

  • ROTFL

  • I can't believe he made that mistake...

  • I wish i knew what they were saying.

  • "Eh? What?"

    "This is terrible..."

    "What an incredible mistake."

    etc.

  • oh that sucks... :D

  • あああああああああああああああ

  • facepalm*

  • What is the status of the White group on the East edge ?

  • I think it is dead, as far as I can read.

  • this is more than dead haha

  • it'd be a good one for cocktail parties of pro players.

  • LOL

  • Lol, I'm a 23K having played only 5 days and I saw that... poor guy. He must have gotten complacent since he had a bit of a lead.

  • Please watch the movies in my "Famous go games re-enacted" playlist! It's a chain of movies of us (me and my friends) re-enacting famous old go games, in a humorous, instructive, Hikaru no go-ish style. Just give it a look, please :3

    Click my name now! :D

  • It's a kind of MAGIC the opponent works :)

  • He must be pissed.

  • wow i didn't think pros ever made 70 point mistakes, espicially self killing ones. This proves that even they are human LOL

  • lol if u can see-- black got greedy went for 1 more point-- while he cud;ve gone 2 points under where he wud;ve went and lived for sure-- at 7-8 xD haha i myself-- a mere sdk (single digit kyu) will- never-- and i repeat will never make such a mistake, this mistake which was probably near 70-100 points, is devastating >:O and black wud've won 2, by prolly 32. and also... how can a young man make a mistake of that sort while even tho the older man lost a group didnt o.o weird eh? ahhh well.......

  • actually the middle group is alrdy alive--- if u look it my way take a look at the bottom 4 stones-- but it is actually close considering the left side of white's is dead.

  • no black is up by 20 points

  • 15 points actually. but hes winnig by a lot

  • I really like the way his opponent stares at him, and at the board, trying to figure whether this is some sort of a really complicated trick.

  • Oh man....... I roughly counted (I might be wrong) but I think black wins this if he properly played the ending. But after this LMAO mistake for a 9th dan, oh man whole bottom left dies.
