@DUY1337GUITAR I dont get imbarrised eazy any way I only asked you the question because when I ripped up a twenty in frount of a cop I was arrested for destorying ????what ever they call it.SO REALY i WAS ONLY ASKING YOU?
Also when I asked you this I was aware you and I are in difrent counterys.Im in IRELAND You seem to be in the stats so realy I was asking is it not aginst the law were you are. Also Im no rat so imbarestment is for cowerds..THANKS Any way.
@DUY1337GUITAR The last bit was a bit of a stab in the back.No look sory I was only asking...So can I have afree one now we are on talking waves lol....Cool stuff keep it up friend!!!!
that's cool but do you think it would be possible to make them thicker? they might look better that way. they still look nice though. i like the general concept as well as the detail work (darkening, etc.)
One final question with the other question about what is wrapped around the Dremel. What kind of polish are you using. Tripoli or Silver Polish or both?
You also are using the same looking Dremel tool at 00:43 but there it looks like you have the sandpaper on it again for polishing or burnishing. Can you tell me what grit sandpaper you are using or how you attached it or what it is??????? THANKS!
Thanks for the answer. The tool you use at 01:12 looks slightly different than the one at 01:14. It looks like a Dremel tool but it has a different shape and has something wrapped around it (like sandpaper or something). Can you explain the difference between these two shots. That would be a great help. Thanks for getting back to me and great quality and craftsmanship!
At 1:14, it's just a cloth dremel bit used for polishing. 1:12 was just a sanding drum bit but wrapped in electric tape (or rubber tape) so I can fit the coin snugly onto it. That way I can spin the coin with the dremel to rub against a sanding sponge.
Sweet video. I love your attention to detail and your craftsmanship. I am in Germany + trying to make something for my wife as a present and need some advice. I saw that you heated up some of the coins but in the comment section you said 600 grit sandpaper did the trick. Can you tell me something? What is the polishing tool at 1:12 called? Do you need it? What is the black stuff on the tool? Have you already completely flattened out the ring before you use this tool? Thanks!
I heated the coins and then immediately cooled it down in water in order to make the metal more pliable. Works well with silver, but other metals may remain stiffer. The heat charred the coin black, and I took advantage of that to create contrasting detail. After finishing, I lightly sand it with 600 grit sandpaper to remove some of the black on the elevated surfaces. The tool you see me using is a dremel. It's not necessary but it can help if you know how to use it.
all honestly this is one of the coolest things ever! but you dont actually say how to do it i would love it if you could make a video teaching me how to turn it inside out so the coin design is on the outside not only on the indside! could you help me out?
HHHHHHEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYY, can u pppllleeeeaaaassseeee tell me how to make half dollar rings. i made one allready but it was huge! i have the same tool as u showed at 1:03. i use it to flip quarters inside out but the halves end up too big. pleasssssssseeee help! thanks!
I believe professionals use some kind of sulfur compound. But for me, the torching process made the metal dark and I just sand it lightly with 600 grit sandpaper.
i have been making coin rings but i am loosing the detail- is it important to use a rawhide hammer.- and how do you get the ring so it doesent have the mandrel slope- as i pound one side is always smaller. also what is the tool that looks like a polisher that you use.
Thank you for the video. I have been working on this project for a few months. i have a lot of equipment and have tried many techniques. I was hoping to find a trick to easily make the rings without pounding on a mandrel. I have tried it all, i have been pressing different size ball bearings through the hole in a ring press and stretching on the ring sizer. to anneal or not to anneal? Some success and some failures. Trying not to waste too much silver. Good luck to everyone.
@DUY1337GUITAR Ok thanks and this is the best demostration out on youtube even though its only pics lol but I think I speak for everyone here when I say cna you please make a video just beucase it would be easier to follow? Thanks!
Please answer, how did you get the writing to the side of the ring, did you use the blow torch to bend it like that, can you please make another video with detail saying how you made this, I am interested in making some.
@GabrielTheGuitarist I just went to a coin show yesterday. As i knew before it is not illegal to make coins into rings, but all of the old guys at the coin show did not like the idea. The coin collectors also do not know anything about making coins into rings. I asked every person at the show and they had no ideas. It is a fun project. I just made on for my Dad today with a 1951 Quarter for the year of his marriage and I will make one for my Mom tomorrow.
Took me a few seconds to get that lol. I remember buying a silver half dollar (genuine one from 1964) for only $9 about 4 years ago... and now it's over $15.
You have some fine skills there. I tried making one - admittedly with limited tools (read - big metal hammer and big drill) and mine looked like a truck ran over it :) All the best to you.
selling will be a maybe. At the moment, I'm only selling to my friends. However, since I have no working drill now, I can't say for sure when I will start making again. You can look up on etsy com for rings made by professionals. Just look up "coin ring" or something similar.
I find this process utterly fascinating and it's something I'd like to try myself. I would very much like to see a video of the entire process from start to finish, listing tools and demonstrating the technique.

Although it is (may) be legal to alter coins, this can and will land you in jail in quite a few countries.

my guess is the coin guys want to perserve the coins, so "altering" them probably upsets them. Ask jewelry students, they know.
