  • isnt this aginst the law

  • @huskywallAz

No, because I'm not using it as currency.

  • @DUY1337GUITAR I dont get imbarrised eazy any way I only asked you the question because when I ripped up a twenty in frount of a cop I was arrested for destorying ????what ever they call it.SO REALY i WAS ONLY ASKING YOU?

  • @huskywallAz

I can't tell if you're being bitter at me or you're just explaining.

  • @DUY1337GUITAR The last bit was a bit of a stab in the back.No look sory I was only asking...So can I have afree one now we are on talking waves lol....Cool stuff keep it up friend!!!!

  • @huskywallAz You need to go see a doctor... something is very very wrong with you. Oh and your spelling teacher should'a been the one to go to jail.

  • @EveryDaysAHolleyDay Its fools like you that dont know how to just move on and shut up that gets a big surprize (Ill ring your fuckin neck)

  • that's cool but do you think it would be possible to make them thicker? they might look better that way. they still look nice though. i like the general concept as well as the detail work (darkening, etc.)

  • @phr4nk3rd00d13 oh, and are those foreign coins silver too?

  • Quite Creative

  • i love your rings where to buy them.... thanks

  • not sure if i missed it or not but how to u bend it into the ring shape from a hollow coin?

  • @punkid41 hammer it with a soft headed hammer after heating it.

  • Although it is (may) be legal to alter coins, this can and will land you in jail in quite a few countries.

  • this just what ive been looking for my dad showed me many years ago with a silver dime

  • One final question with the other question about what is wrapped around the Dremel. What kind of polish are you using. Tripoli or Silver Polish or both?

  • @msungs

It's just some type of metal polish that came with my dremel kit.

  • You also are using the same looking Dremel tool at 00:43 but there it looks like you have the sandpaper on it again for polishing or burnishing. Can you tell me what grit sandpaper you are using or how you attached it or what it is??????? THANKS!

  • Thanks for the answer. The tool you use at 01:12 looks slightly different than the one at 01:14. It looks like a Dremel tool but it has a different shape and has something wrapped around it (like sandpaper or something). Can you explain the difference between these two shots. That would be a great help. Thanks for getting back to me and great quality and craftsmanship!

  • @msungs

At 1:14, it's just a cloth dremel bit used for polishing. 1:12 was just a sanding drum bit but wrapped in electric tape (or rubber tape) so I can fit the coin snugly onto it. That way I can spin the coin with the dremel to rub against a sanding sponge.

  • Sweet video. I love your attention to detail and your craftsmanship. I am in Germany + trying to make something for my wife as a present and need some advice. I saw that you heated up some of the coins but in the comment section you said 600 grit sandpaper did the trick. Can you tell me something? What is the polishing tool at 1:12 called? Do you need it? What is the black stuff on the tool? Have you already completely flattened out the ring before you use this tool? Thanks!

  • @msungs

I heated the coins and then immediately cooled it down in water in order to make the metal more pliable. Works well with silver, but other metals may remain stiffer. The heat charred the coin black, and I took advantage of that to create contrasting detail. After finishing, I lightly sand it with 600 grit sandpaper to remove some of the black on the elevated surfaces. The tool you see me using is a dremel. It's not necessary but it can help if you know how to use it.

  • do you heat it up? then possibly just use tweezers or something to take the inside and pull it into shape or?

  • all honestly this is one of the coolest things ever! but you dont actually say how to do it i would love it if you could make a video teaching me how to turn it inside out so the coin design is on the outside not only on the indside! could you help me out?

  • HHHHHHEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYY, can u pppllleeeeaaaassseeee tell me how to make half dollar rings. i made one allready but it was huge! i have the same tool as u showed at 1:03. i use it to flip quarters inside out but the halves end up too big. pleasssssssseeee help! thanks!

  • @123puzzlesmc

Halves end up way too big for me too. I don't know how the pros make them smaller...

  • Would love to see you make a real video of you working on a ring. I think I speak for every one watching the video of pictures. Nice work.

  • @yrusonoitall

    I'm out of coins

  • its illigal here in austrlia to deface a coin...or pretty much do anything to it... but that looks totally cool anyways!

  • @Kymmi28 Australia***

  • I got one question, how do you get the gritty look that highlights the details? Do you heat them up, or? Thanks

  • @Gonamez

I believe professionals use some kind of sulfur compound. But for me, the torching process made the metal dark and I just sand it lightly with 600 grit sandpaper.

  • @DUY1337GUITAR Im glad you answered! Thank you, I´ll try that out

  • forreal, around 1:10 i was like ":OOOO" you've got my like! :)

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice of you to share your technique! Your pieces are beautiful!

  • i have been making coin rings but i am loosing the detail- is it important to use a rawhide hammer.- and how do you get the ring so it doesent have the mandrel slope- as i pound one side is always smaller. also what is the tool that looks like a polisher that you use.

  • This is Amazing I'm going to go college for jewel crafting next month just love this stuff

  • Better to use DISCCUTTER?

    FABIO -SP BRAZIL

  • where did you get the thai 5 baht coin buddy?

  • Thank you for the video. I have been working on this project for a few months. i have a lot of equipment and have tried many techniques. I was hoping to find a trick to easily make the rings without pounding on a mandrel. I have tried it all, i have been pressing different size ball bearings through the hole in a ring press and stretching on the ring sizer. to anneal or not to anneal? Some success and some failures. Trying not to waste too much silver. Good luck to everyone.

  • @DUY1337GUITAR Are you thai or viet?

  • How do you go from 1:07 to 1:10? In 1:07, the coins is slanted, but in 1:10, the finished coin is concave...

  • @VDBpenny1995

as I hammer down ring mandrel, the center hole widens, thus causing the outer edges to slant inwards

  • @DUY1337GUITAR Ok thanks and this is the best demostration out on youtube even though its only pics lol but I think I speak for everyone here when I say cna you please make a video just beucase it would be easier to follow? Thanks!

  • U ARE AMAZING MAN U ARE THE BEST

  • HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY CAN U DO A VIDEO ALL OF UR JOB TO DO THIS RING ??? PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ GIVE ME A VIDEO

  • @MrAleks199

I'll try, but I'm in college right now. I left my ring making stuff at my hometown

  • @DUY1337GUITAR plzzz i rrlly neeed a video and u are super talentet :) :)

  • So you heat them up and flip them inside out or whatever at 0:38? also great idea/music/video/videos

  • @TraficMusic

Cool story. I should make more.

  • @TraficMusic

Cool story. I should make more.

  • @TraficMusic

Cool story. I should make more.

  • Please answer, how did you get the writing to the side of the ring, did you use the blow torch to bend it like that, can you please make another video with detail saying how you made this, I am interested in making some.

  • at 0:18, what was the coin on the left?

  • how do you bend it into the ring shape?

  • Hey could you give a detailed equipment list and maybe a video of start to finish? I've watched alot of videos and their rings don't look like your.

  • AWWWWWW

  • Why is it illegal to wreck coins? Or in you case make a work of art from them?

  • @secondguytobefirst its called defacing currency

  • @GabrielTheGuitarist I just went to a coin show yesterday. As i knew before it is not illegal to make coins into rings, but all of the old guys at the coin show did not like the idea. The coin collectors also do not know anything about making coins into rings. I asked every person at the show and they had no ideas. It is a fun project. I just made on for my Dad today with a 1951 Quarter for the year of his marriage and I will make one for my Mom tomorrow.

  • @TroutdaleTattoo i wasnt talkin about coins only...i mean in general.

  • @TroutdaleTattoo

my guess is the coin guys want to perserve the coins, so "altering" them probably upsets them. Ask jewelry students, they know.

  • They look pretty awesome, well done.

I remember a kid at school being told off for drilling a hole through a coin, as the teacher said, "defacing the queens image is illegal" hahaha.

  • seen this before, looks pretty neat. If you and many others do it, in the long term it will make my 90% worth more :D :D j/k

  • @silvercollector123

Took me a few seconds to get that lol. I remember buying a silver half dollar (genuine one from 1964) for only $9 about 4 years ago... and now it's over $15.

  • was that a torch i saw at 0:38 and is it necessary?

  • You have some fine skills there. I tried making one - admittedly with limited tools (read - big metal hammer and big drill) and mine looked like a truck ran over it :) All the best to you.

  • Comment removed

  • what are you doing at 1:02?

  • @stuckinthepast

thats when I begin hammering the edges down to form a ring

  • What an awesome idea. They look so great.

  • I'll give you 25 cents if you make me one.

  • will you be making more to sell. im interested in buying

  • @hacksai

selling will be a maybe. At the moment, I'm only selling to my friends. However, since I have no working drill now, I can't say for sure when I will start making again. You can look up on etsy com for rings made by professionals. Just look up "coin ring" or something similar.

  • I find this process utterly fascinating and it's something I'd like to try myself. I would very much like to see a video of the entire process from start to finish, listing tools and demonstrating the technique.

  • Awesome! What song is that?

  • @FREAK9364

"Take the Lead", but it's a royalty free song

  • Wow!!Any chance you could give a dtailed video on this?

  • @SRV1DOORS1HENDRIX1

I was going to... but my drill is jammed =_=

So I decided to upload a photo-story while I wait to get a new drill :P
