Salvation essentially translates best to "life", and that life starts right where you are :D. I love this song, but the verses and refrains are somwhat off, I think. The arrangements of the verses and refrains are better in Mack Wilberg's arrangement. Check it out.

I'm Catholic so could you explain beeing saved to me? How different is it from Baptism?

Put simply, Baptism is a celebration of one's salvation. Being saved is to reconnect with your creator. God created mankind so that we could be in personal fellowship with Him, but our sins destroyed that relationship. In one man's sin (Adam) we all sinned, but in one man's life (Jesus) we can all be saved.

As a former Catholic, I was taught that the priest washed away my sin when he sprinkled water on my forehead as a baby, and this special human action granted me a place in heaven.

Jesus taught exactly the opposite. Many times, He said to repent (turn fom your sins).

We are saved not from Hell or power of this earth, we are saved from our own transgressions and sins. To be Saved, is to begin our journey, not to end it. God is the God of life, not the God of death. If you just want a "Get out of Hell free card", then I doubt your faith...

It's basically how Jesus died on the cross and paid for our sins. This does not mean we dont sin, it means we do not get punished for it if we believe in Jesus Christ and do the works his Father commanded us to do. So basically, the punishment was death, or, eternal separation from Christ and the Father which is Hell. But Christ saved us from Hell and gave us a chance to go to heaven even though we dont deserve it.

But don't forget that this doesn't mean we do whatever we want because Jesus will make it all better. What kind of father doesn't discipline his sons? We are still required to repent, which means also turning from our sin. By the grace of God and the power of Christ we can change.
