DOA takes more skill than most fighting games. This is one of the ONLY fighting games that you can't win by spamming the same move over again. You have to be good to win at this game. Cheating won't work and can be countered easily.
@4tknaruto oh yeah dude I know, I got doa4 back when that first came out and beat the game "button smashing"...you have to actually learn the combos if you want to not suck. I had so many frustrating moments in that game where I wanted to put my fist through a wall which could have been avoided had I known combos.

I thought every Mortal Kombat game was SHIT (still do) apart from the most recent MK9, which is brilliant so anyone putting a downer on DOA 5 at this early stage really should hold judgement....
I hope it comes on PS3 aswell cuz I kinda felt sorry for people that didnt have Xbox and complained that was ONLY on Xbox and they loved the franchise.
Overall, I hope this game plays more like Dead or Alive 4 than any of the others. Dimensions felt like Dead or Alive "Lite" even when you compare to earlier the titles.
Oh, and I hope it doesn't devolve into who can hit whom into the nearest explosive environmental cutscene.

@valygomu There may be no girls in this trailer but it's not my responsibility DOA made this impression for themselves. Tekken compared to other games in the same genre has evolved the most in my opinion. Every installment they bring in something new to the system, not only new stages and new customizations but technicalities that greatly affects the gameplay like the 'Bound' system that was introduced in Tekken 6. XD

@Alta626 I personally don't recommend DOA. Tekken compared to any fighting games in the same genre has the most techinicalities and it supplies the widest options for customizing the outfit and look of your character. Doing combos in Tekken isn't enough to be an expert but you gotta kow the physics. To me, Tekken's physics is way better then DOA's. Go Tekken !

@Winterbadger The ability to intercept and counter attacks while in hitstun is one thing I think makes the Dead or Alive franchise fundamentally flawed as a seriously competitive fighting game.
It basically means that the only safe combos in this game start when you've got the opponent in midair. I'm really disappointed that this trailer still shows the whole rock paper scissors mechanic that is the counter system, because at high level play, that's really all you begin to see.

@TenshiTamagoKidd15 LOL just how many girls in bikini can you see in in tekken. Tekken probably had the most changes compared to any other games in the same genre in terms of gameplay and more. They introduced the 'Bounce' system in the first Tekken 6 installment which completely changed the whole aspect of combos and gameplay. Combos in Tekken takes "Skill" to perform. DOA sells more? DOA is not even good enough to be available at the arcades. Tekken has a tv show in Korea.

@Naughty08Girl DOA is much funner to play, especially since the arena constantly changes depending on the moves you make. I'd rather play a funner game, than a game that takes more 'skill' anyday. And besides. I can easily name a game that takes more skill than Tekken. Hell even Skull Girls does.
@Naughty08Girl It all depends on why you play the game in the first place. I game for fun, which I personally get from looking at insane (perhaps indeed unrealistic) moves such as can be see in DOA. If you receive more fun from playing realstic fights, than Tekken surely is the better choice. Although being able to play with a giant Panda doesn't really contribute to realism, I think. The discussion is just as meaningless as the xbox vs. ps3 one, because people play them for different reasons.
@Naughty08Girl This game is targeted for casual gamers. Allot of people can get frustrated with Tekken or Street fighter's heavy combos. I play mortal kombat and like it the best. It all comes down to preference. Also the last DOA game was only made for xbox the last time it was in the market so it has been a while since people got a hold of it or heard of it, unlike the other popular fighting games. The game is actually pretty fun. I love DOA 2. It brings back memory.

@Naughty08Girl I can definitely understand your position. Your a huge fan of Tekken and that's perfectly fine. The reason why i prefer DOA over Tekken is very simple (And I'm gay btw so it's not because of the boobies) It's because DOA is actually fun. The combos are easy, the tag grabbing, the depths of each character and the fun juggling system they have. In Tekken it requires skill which is cool, but when I or any one else plays a game we want to have fun, not spend hours in practice mode.
@xXxXkuramaxXx I can't agree more with you. The point in playing a video game in the first place is to have fun. I think it's just a personal preferrence to how we choose a game. Personally I like to play at a competitive level and that's how myself and many alike have fun. I love DOA, main reason is the stages, it feels like ur actually fighting in a place rather than other fighting games where it looks like people are just fighting with a huge background pic at the back, the interactions with the environment really made me a fan ever since i played DOA.

Because that definitely does not denote the game will be the same, in the manner you say it will. Note DOA: Dimensions and Dead or Alive 4. The characters are still "attacking the same" but the game is significantly different than its Xbox predecessor. Putting the graphics aside it feels much more like a classic DOA(2,3) than DOA4.

@knomyname But this trailer was not intended to be heavily combat oriented, nor was it meant to demonstrate the capabilities of the characters. It was merely intended to be used as a release trailer, and to showcase the new dynamic stage elements which they've recently incorporated. As I've already said, It's a pre-alpha build. There is nothing to judge from Pre-alpha because the development is still at its earliest stage. Wait until they release promotional trailers, then you can criticize.
@HypnoticCyclone it doesn't have to be a promotional trailer for people to know a lot of the details. When you look at this gameplay video, they perform a lot of the same moves they do in DOA 3. I guarantee you won't see a lot of changes from here on. The '07 gameplay trailer for Resident evil 5 came out 2 years before its release and they didn't change a thing from what they showed in their '07 trailer. So this being "Pre-Alpha" is not a good enough excuse to not be predictable

@knomyname Techniques for SF have probably changed just as much as the techniques for DOA have. You tried to justify a game being the same because the characters still "attack the same". That was the end of the discussion right there. There was no talk of new ideas for the game so why bring that up as an attack because it definitely did not work and was completely irrelevant to what was being discussed.
@xHuntedGunzPCGx The way they attack has a lot to do with techniques too. And this all comes together as new ideas so it is all relevant. And they've added aerial techniques, ultimate/Super attacks, counters, etc. to street fighter. That sounds like a lot more than what DOA has done in their past games. @knomyname Street Fighter characters, in GENERAL, have been attacking in a very similar fashion for years but the fighting techniques and general liking of the various games have all varied greatly. I'm just saying don't blindly judge a games pre-alpha gameplay video unless there is sufficient information in the video to do so. Also, be educated and more so in the game you are criticizing so that your comments don't come across as being ignorant.

What are all these terrible fans of Tekken doing on here claiming Tekken is harder because theres no "learnable combos" in tekken. Exactly why it sucks. Because you can just button mash over and over again and win, while DOA is actually difficult because you can punish people who use the same skills. DOA is so much more in depth and thoughtful while still high paced (not to mention everyone in Tekken is ugly) which is why it's so much better. Go back to your tekken videos, ya h8rs...

I play both games and let me tell you, I play with Dragunov and EVERYTIME I counter an opponent's move, they send me hate mail saying all this shit about how "noobish" I am. Please, if their moves weren't so readable, I wouldn't counter as easy. This is different in DOA though, all characters have counters, which makes it really interesting in a fight. No button mashing here.

@CrazyAssSk8ter No, I've actually come across good players in Tekken, but when it gets to a wall, they keep doing these ridiculous combos that keep me on the way, bouncing, doing ridiculous extra damage. Then at times where I lay on the ground (to avoid being hit), there are some attacks that launch me in the air and back on the wall, etc. That's why I feel it's broken. The wall recoveries suck. I haven't played DOA4 in a while 'cause I personally hate the lobbies lol I want something quick.

@ytaks14 Are you joking? DoA is much harder. The fighting system is more advanced than Tekken or any fighting game known. The great thing about DoA, is yeah, you may be able to string few combos in by mashing buttons, but there are COUNTERS, which makes it that MUCH HARDER to do any combo, let alone a button mashed combo the whole fight. DoA beats every fighting game, especially in the fighting system

Do your homework before mocking other people. The reason the spartan was in DOA4 was because microsoft and bungie wanted to get an idea of how the graphics would look for masterchief on halo 3. As a thank you, Bungie made the hayabusa armour and Katana in Halo 3.

Its just improved graphics, but what did you expect, something new? The only thing that games have improved on for YEARS are graphics, or scale. Everythings already been done, and anything truly original ends up being so arty farty or unusual that they cant get a commercial release and have to stick with independant publishing. @ncshuriken tecqnically thats not true. its not just graphics that has been chnaged. the players are now able to interact with the enviornment now more then ever making it more realistic then ALOT of fighting games out there. this is giving the game a better fighting experience...plus they sweat in the outcome of the fight..and the speical moves have changed as well....can't say that tekken isn't a good fighting game though

@ncshuriken What your saying is soo true. What makes me angry right now is that the fighting game industry is not moving forward to me. Maybe because it can't but there has to be something totally new that can change all that. It's a real reason why i don't see my self buying tekken tag 2 cuz the gameplay will still be the same like tekken 6 fused with Tekken tag.
One fighting game I remember trying to break the mould, SORT of, was Bushido Blade on PS1. I suppose you might not be able to even call it a fighting game, but on EVERY stage of the story mode, it was you, VS a single opponent. The only difference was that you had a really big map to fight in, you could chase your opponent down streets, through sewers, into castles, and take the 1vs1 battle ANYWHERE. I had a dream that I was playing a NEW bushido blade, and it was SICK, I loved it!
I can't wait.. I hope this is not the actual gameplay with all the fx I mean i seen enough of that in MK9. DOA is the BEST! I HOPE TO WORK FOR THEM ONE DAY!!
I agree that the tekken character's movesets are (for the most part) quite different. And their reasons for being the same are quite reasonable. Ex. A mentor and pupil perhaps? Or sisters trained in similar fighting styles. But the customization was crap in Tekken 6. Mostly re-textured, re-colored, or minutely redesigned variations of one general thing.

Overall, I hope this game plays more like Dead or Alive 4 than any of the others. Dimensions felt like Dead or Alive "Lite" even when you compare to earlier the titles.
Oh, and I hope it doesn't devolve into who can hit whom into the nearest explosive environmental cutscene.

Tekken compared to other games in the same genre has evolved the most in my opinion. Every installment they bring in something new to the system, not only new stages and new customizations but technicalities that greatly affects the gameplay like the 'Bound' system that was introduced in Tekken 6. Tekken compared to any fighting games in the same genre has the most techinicalities and it supplies the widest options for customizing the outfit and look of your character. Doing combos in Tekken isn't enough to be an expert but you gotta kow the physics. To me, Tekken's physics is way better then DOA's. Go Tekken !

@Winterbadger The ability to intercept and counter attacks while in hitstun is one thing I think makes the Dead or Alive franchise fundamentally flawed as a seriously competitive fighting game.
It basically means that the only safe combos in this game start when you've got the opponent in midair. I'm really disappointed that this trailer still shows the whole rock paper scissors mechanic that is the counter system, because at high level play, that's really all you begin to see.

@Naughty08Girl It all depends on why you play the game in the first place. I game for fun, which I personally get from looking at insane (perhaps indeed unrealistic) moves such as can be see in DOA. If you receive more fun from playing realstic fights, than Tekken surely is the better choice. Although being able to play with a giant Panda doesn't really contribute to realism, I think. The discussion is just as meaningless as the xbox vs. ps3 one, because people play them for different reasons.

@Naughty08Girl This game is targeted for casual gamers. Allot of people can get frustrated with Tekken or Street fighter's heavy combos. I play mortal kombat and like it the best. It all comes down to preference. Also the last DOA game was only made for xbox the last time it was in the market so it has been a while since people got a hold of it or heard of it, unlike the other popular fighting games. The game is actually pretty fun. I love DOA 2. It brings back memory.

The reason why i prefer DOA over Tekken is very simple (And I'm gay btw so it's not because of the boobies) It's because DOA is actually fun. The combos are easy, the tag grabbing, the depths of each character and the fun juggling system they have. In Tekken it requires skill which is cool, but when I or any one else plays a game we want to have fun, not spend hours in practice mode.

Because that definitely does not denote the game will be the same, in the manner you say it will. Note DOA: Dimensions and Dead or Alive 4. The characters are still "attacking the same" but the game is significantly different than its Xbox predecessor. Putting the graphics aside it feels much more like a classic DOA(2,3) than DOA4.

@knomyname But this trailer was not intended to be heavily combat oriented, nor was it meant to demonstrate the capabilities of the characters. It was merely intended to be used as a release trailer, and to showcase the new dynamic stage elements which they've recently incorporated. As I've already said, It's a pre-alpha build. There is nothing to judge from Pre-alpha because the development is still at its earliest stage. Wait until they release promotional trailers, then you can criticize.

I guarantee you won't see a lot of changes from here on. The '07 gameplay trailer for Resident evil 5 came out 2 years before its release and they didn't change a thing from what they showed in their '07 trailer. So this being "Pre-Alpha" is not a good enough excuse to not be predictable

That was the end of the discussion right there. What are all these terrible fans of Tekken doing on here claiming Tekken is harder because theres no "learnable combos" in tekken. Exactly why it sucks. Because you can just button mash over and over again and win, while DOA is actually difficult because you can punish people who use the same skills. I play both games and let me tell you, I play with Dragunov and EVERYTIME I counter an opponent's move, they send me hate mail saying all this shit about how "noobish" I am. Please, if their moves weren't so readable, I wouldn't counter as easy. This is different in DOA though, all characters have counters, which makes it really interesting in a fight. No button mashing here.

@CrazyAssSk8ter No, I've actually come across good players in Tekken, but when it gets to a wall, they keep doing these ridiculous combos that keep me on the way, bouncing, doing ridiculous extra damage. Then at times where I lay on the ground (to avoid being hit), there are some attacks that launch me in the air and back on the wall, etc. That's why I feel it's broken. The wall recoveries suck. I haven't played DOA4 in a while 'cause I personally hate the lobbies lol I want something quick.

@ytaks14 Are you joking? DoA is much harder. The fighting system is more advanced than Tekken or any fighting game known. The great thing about DoA, is yeah, you may be able to string few combos in by mashing buttons, but there are COUNTERS, which makes it that MUCH HARDER to do any combo, let alone a button mashed combo the whole fight. DoA beats every fighting game, especially in the fighting system

since this is finally gonna be on ps3 they should out in a Helghast soldier since xbox got the Halo guy.

I also thought Darth Vader was a bit out of place in SC4, but well, if nothing else, he does have a melee weapon hahaha.

Do your homework before mocking other people. The reason the spartan was in DOA4 was because microsoft and bungie wanted to get an idea of how the graphics would look for masterchief on halo 3. As a thank you, Bungie made the hayabusa armour and Katana in Halo 3.

Its just improved graphics, but what did you expect, something new? The only thing that games have improved on for YEARS are graphics, or scale. Everythings already been done, and anything truly original ends up being so arty farty or unusual that they cant get a commercial release and have to stick with independant publishing. Pisses me off too sometimes, but in this day and age, the gaming industry is anything BUT virgin territory like it used to be. This looks good to me though

@ncshuriken tecqnically thats not true. its not just graphics that has been chnaged. the players are now able to interact with the enviornment now more then ever making it more realistic then ALOT of fighting games out there. this is giving the game a better fighting experience...plus they sweat in the outcome of the fight..and the speical moves have changed as well....can't say that tekken isn't a good fighting game though

@ncshuriken What your saying is soo true. What makes me angry right now is that the fighting game industry is not moving forward to me. Maybe because it can't but there has to be something totally new that can change all that. It's a real reason why i don't see my self buying tekken tag 2 cuz the gameplay will still be the same like tekken 6 fused with Tekken tag.

One fighting game I remember trying to break the mould, SORT of, was Bushido Blade on PS1. I suppose you might not be able to even call it a fighting game, but on EVERY stage of the story mode, it was you, VS a single opponent. The only difference was that you had a really big map to fight in, you could chase your opponent down streets, through sewers, into castles, and take the 1vs1 battle ANYWHERE. I had a dream that I was playing a NEW bushido blade, and it was SICK, I loved it!

Tekken Tag Tournament - Very Very good and with the tag system
Tekken 4 - MUCH slower than any of the Tekken (from T3)
Tekken 5 - Quite fast, combos start to look more rewarding
Tekken 6 - Combo fest
TT2 = TT1 + T6
There really isn't any new formula in the gameplay, it isn't the most different!

I agree that the tekken character's movesets are (for the most part) quite different. And their reasons for being the same are quite reasonable. Ex. A mentor and pupil perhaps? Or sisters trained in similar fighting styles. But the customization was crap in Tekken 6. Mostly re-textured, re-colored, or minutely redesigned variations of one general thing.

@ultimatesummoner Because apparently that's what the kids these days want. That's probably the only thing I hate about the game now. Dimensions even had the same crappy effect. Maybe there will be a toggle option? I doubt it though...
