I just turned 25 and have had Wolff Parkinson White since my teens but only FINALLY got diagnosed the other day. Having this operation - I didn't ask many questions but I have to wait 11 months for my op. Scared now I know what I have :-(
I had my procedure yesterday and was asleep for the majority of it. It didn't hurt, but i did wake up a few times because of pain in my chest. As for now, my heart keeps feeling like it's going to go into SVT but it doesn't, and skipping beats. is this normal? how much of this should i deal with before going to the doctor or should i ignore it?
Thank you for the video! I had my ablation last week, and I watched your video again before the operation and it helped me so much. I can recommend an ablation to everybody who has svt, because it's the only chance to run a normal life. There is no need to be scared of the operation. It's a weird feeling when they burn away the extra path ways the heart, but it's only for a few seconds.
Thanks crazynat37 for sharing your experience with those of us who may/may not, have your courage . Due to a cancellation, I had a call out of the blue yesterday from my hospital offering to do my Ablation op tomorrow, February 16th, I said yes of course without much time to think--because i had been told to expect long waiting times. I've been reading books and personal experiences--some very good like yours, others, scary. I wish I was your age, and not mine 70. The young are fitter. Thank you.
when i had the op i was a wake the whole time the made it beat upto 370 beats to correct it but altho i was a wake really pleased i,ve had it done well reckemend it for anyone that has svt aspesh when i was gettin them that lasted for over 3 hours it was horrid all i get now is miss beats now and then and small palps if i get ill eg fleu or cold...but ever since the op i do get few hiccups every hour-ish witch is odd and i wondered if anyone else has had that problem?
I'm undergoing this procedure in a few weeks.... I must say that I am freaking out! I have had my "heart attacks" as I would call them for over 5 years now, and lately they have been getting closer and closer. I'm kind of glad to finally get the ablation done and get this over with. Your video has helped, now I feel a bit better. I am glad it worked out well for you! :)
I've been reading post-op responses from people who've had an ablation and many of them say they felt worse and their heart went crazy for months during the healing process, did you feel worse or have tons of skipped beats or SVT attacks after the surgery, still thinking about having it done...
@crazynat37 I've tried to email you a few times because I had lots of questions but it keeps messing up, it's rare to be able to communicate live with someone who's dealth with SVT, I'm still not sure if I want to go through with it, was in hospital last week and given Adenosine again, I feel like when I have the attack, I'm ready for the surgery but when I'm fine, I feel like Ok, maybe I'll wait. I'm scared to death, I've had 4 attacks this year within last 4 months, 6 total. All confusing...
@panitzshea I had a fairly positive experience, I still experience SVT after the operation over a year ago. but no where near as frequently (used to be once or more a day for up to half an hour) now it's only about once to three times a week for less than a minute. I decided on the op over meds because at the time I wanted to join the ADF.
I've had about 5-8 SVT attacks since May 08 and a few months ago this procedure was recommended to me, IDK something about someone messing with your heart or brain just sound CRAZY, my last attack was last night and I was given adenosine which is the worst feeling in the world, knowing that this stuff actually stops your heart is crazy. I love to travel and I'm fearing an attack happening while on the plain or no where near a hospital. Part of me wants to wait til the attacks are more regular a
@panitzshea they gave me adenosine once before omg it hurt and is the worst thing ever!!! it worked but man its pretty scary. i did the ablation twice, first time worked but my heart kept racing faster then normal so they did it again now its ok. i think its worth it caause when i had svt they say breathe, splash water none of that worked for me. u feel like fainting then get pain in ur arm and cant breathe. i would say do the ablation.
I was just wondering if you felt any pre symptoms before an attack? Also my heart races at a scary rate but only when I eat fast food etc. Im wearing a heart monitor and the only way to show them is to make it go off or else they have to do it on there own which Idk if its scary. I live in america and im 20 and I just need any advice? My email is miles.martnz@yahoo.com if u don't answer here. Thank you and love the video
I was in the ER twice last week. My record is 192 bpm and I'm scared like hell that it happens again. I take Verapamil now and I'm feeling better. I'm so scared that it happens on the plane.
But at the same time the fear of a heart attack, stroke, a permanent pacemaker or even death :( im only 25. If It works and everything goes fine it could be one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. If something goes wrong I could really screw up the rest of my life. Its a hard pill to swallow. But thank you for making this video. You make it seem like a walk in the park lol. One question though....do you remember when they administered the adrenaline? Did it feel weird or do you know?
@bluemoney1928 These risks are so minimal though, particularly if you have a surgeon with a good reputation. Believe my it was no walk in the park. it's the biggest decision I have ever had to make. I'm so glad I chose to go ahead with it.
I really don't remember anything about the operation because they gave me amnesia drugs.
@crazynat37 amnesia drugs lol omg that is awesome! wish i can take that for my b/f hahah. i had it too but i was just numbed up. i had fast heart rate for about a yr after my surgery not fast like over 200 but it was always in the upper 120-140 which was not normal for me but after about a yr it has gone down and no more svt.doctor didnt have any idea y it was beating faster then normal he put me on meds to keep it down but now im off and all is good. man i need some anmesia meds.
@crazynat37 thats kind of a scary idea - that means you could be in terrible pain or distress you just wouldn't remember. But at the time it would be horrible. I've thought before - if you have pain but don't remember it is that the same as not having it?
I dunno anyway I've had the drug that makes you forget so I sort of know but its just the idea - well actually why would they want you to forget if there wasn't something to forget. i mean if it was pain free why not remember?
@bluemoney1928 Hey i had the surgery last year, just had another occurance a month ago but they acually use a pacemaker to ramp up your heart rate to like 240 its rly easy
@bluemoney1928 Hey I just thought I'd give you my two bob's worth. I dont believe the used adrenaline to start my SVT, they may have shocked it, either way it doesn't feel that strange. I was completely awake throughout my operation of course I had certain meds used obviously including local anaesthetic at the site or entry. My opinion is that the worst/strangest feeling is when they actually burn the nerve, it's fairly indescribable but over quickly :)
I feared that it would happen. I've been lucky to only have episodes a few times a year but it stays with you everyday. I am going to have the ablation because my Meds make me tired and I've gained weight because I'm too afraid to Excercise properly. This video put me more at ease. I'm really afraid of the procedure because I'm so afraid of being in that slim percent of risk. It's such a catch 22 because in one way the joy it brings me to imagine being able to live my life normally is overwhel
I've had svt episodes since middle school, I'm now 25 years old. Mine don't happen too often but when they do they are horrifying. They are the worst when I have a fever, which makes a simple virus or sinus infection turn into a nightmare. Your video put me into tears when you were talking about the effect it has on your life because I understood exactly how you felt. Your always afraid to go hiking, or camping, or plane flights or anything that takes you far from a hospital. Even on my wedding
Had this procedure 14 months ago. I am now 62 and had suffered with terrifying svt episodes since my early 20's. It got to point where I could not function normally any more so I had the surgery, My recovery was a complete success. Even my catheter scars are gone. Thanks to the cardiovascular team of doctors at Hillcrest hospital in Cleveland Ohio.
is all tachycardia classified as either ventricular or atrial tachacardia? is this how it works? i have tachycardia but ive only had 2 episodes so its hard to tell what i have! both of them were triggered by sudden movements in physical activity.
I had this it was my 18th operation and trust me its a walk in the park compared to other method i had undergone before and more suspenseful its been two years and so far so good don't be worried if you are watching this because you are about to have it done
I had the surgery 4 days ago I pray that its successful. God is good and I thank God that I'm still alive my heart rate was 287 going in the surgery. SVT is no joke it makes you feel horrible.
TAKE IT VERY EASY FOR THE FIRST 2 WEEKS AFTER THE ABLATION .!!!!!!
And after the TWO weekS do not exert yourself , take it slowly !! you may still get some symptoms for 3 - 6 months after the ablation . It takes anything from 6 = 3 months for the scar tissue to repair inside the heart .
Thank u for sharing this:)! Im only 13 and i got the ablation yesterday but then the nurses told me i had to stay overnight which kinda sucked:P. Anyways right now im back at my home:).
Hi , Thank you for your video , your experiances were just the same as my own , the SVT attacks became more frequent and more life threatening , having to have my heart stopped and started in the emergency room more than 4 times , had the procedure , 100% success , great surgeon and his team , thank you to all at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital , the care was just superb , no more anxiety about the attacks ,, feel really better than ever .
Thank u for sharing. I have mine scheduled this month. I am nervous, but your video made me feel more comfortable with the whole thing. Appreciate reading all of the comments too. Makes u realize how common the procedure is and helps put me at ease with my decision.
Sounds exactly like my situation. :p I'm 19, going for my ablation tomorrow. My worst attack lasted 1 hour 30 minutes, and my heart rate reached about 260. Such a scary time. I'm excited to have it go away tomorrow!! (: Thanks for this video. Much appreciated.
Sooo, I had it done the other day. I had two IV's going, and was awake the entire operation, (napping on and off for a few minutes sometimes). The only parts that hurt were the IV's, and many needles in both sides of my groin. (To numb the areas). I could actually feel the catheters, and being in an "svt attack" was a little scary.
...(continued) Unfortunately, they found more than one problem area. I think about 4 actually, soo they told me I didn't technically have svt, but vt, and they need to talk to specialists and have a cardiac MRI. My heart's still not fixed! Gahhhhhhhh. I will probably have to have this operation done again. Sigh.
just had my ablation yesterday! The procedure is actually quick and they give you some crazy anesthesia so even thought you're "conscious" you don't remember ANYTHING. My first conscious memory was laying down on the recovery bed even though I had been talking to my doctor throughout the procedure (apparently begging for medical marijuana). The crotch holes are a tad uncomfortable but nothing serious, and if it cured my SVT, damn worth it!
My first SVT lasted 6 hours. Since then, the shortest has been 2 hours but I don't get any symptoms with it thankfully. The last time was when i was on holiday with college and no-one in the hospital spoke English, it was so scary. Could you feel it when the tube went through you're body? I might be having it and i'm worried that I'll be awake and able to feel it.
@SpiceBaby47 Hey I had the procedure done when I was 21, and am now almost 31. You get a local anasthetic in your groin and that hurts a tiny bit (needle) and you cant feel the tubes going up. you also get the same thing on your left hand side between your shoulder chest area. I was awake for the whole procedure and it took them 5 hours. you get some 'chill out' drugs, i cant remember what theyre called. The procedure is much safer and faster these days, dont worry you will be fine :)
hi... i jst had my surgery.... what post op feeling did you get? i seem to be getting a strange sensation feeling im my chest like pins and needles. my groin area was ok but 4 days after its feeling like its twisted and tense
hi there,i was diagnosed with svt 2 years ago,had a very scary attack hitting near 200,i have anxiety too which makes things worse, lol, was given adenosine and went back to 70 immediately,im so glad your surgery went well and your video has encouraged me to get it done due to the frequency of my attacks,im interested to know what hospital you had it done at so i can do some research too,im in sydney, also did you go private or public? hope all is still well and thankyou :))
@uriahsgirl80 I live in QLD, was on waiting list for years. I flew to Melbourne, saw Dr Broughton at the Cabrini Medical centre, went on the waiting list- a few weeks later flew back down and got it done at the Alfred hospital. All through Medicare, totally public, fantastic experience, out the next day. 10 years later and still free as a bird. :)
thanks so much for posting this! you are one of the only people on the internet that posted a personal experience video about ablation. I had my ablation mid-march 2011 and saw your video the day before.... put me at total ease! thank you soooo much! just a question.... did you ever experience the pressure/chest tightening they tell you that you may have a few months after the procedure?!
Thank for posting your experience. I am scheduled for EP Study / Ablation on Friday and I am a nervous wreck right now. Hearing positive experiences helps me stay positive that this will work and be complication free...at least helps with my anxiety about it.
crazy, left out the part where you have to lie flat on your back for 3 whole hours after you get catheter ablation because your blood will be really thin. Well, guess what guys? The male nurse pulled out a blood clot and I bled immediately after the 3 hours. I mean it was like Carrie in the movie Carrie. I had to sit there for another 3 hours. And taking the sticks out was so painful that I wanted to cry.
@LVishere That happened to me also. I got up and sat in a chair to see how my surgical site would do before walking to the bathroom.I felt something warm on my leg while sitting in the chair. I lifted up my hospital gown and i was sitting in a puddle of blood from my surgical site. I was kept over night. I had 2 heart oblations done for svt. I had one done and then 6 years later had another one done. I
I had this done today and mine was unsuccessful because the wire was too close to my heart and the doctor feared that he would burn my heart and I'd have to wear a pace maker for the rest of my life. I've had SVT for all of my life. I got it when I was in the 2nd grade, I'm 23 now. Mine will last the entire day and what triggers it is comfortableness or activities. I will have to squeeze as if it I was getting a bowel moment to make it stop but it never works. Doc. recommended another Doc...
@LVishere that will freeze the wire instead of burn it so it won't damage my heart. Hopefully it works out and and I can do all the things I never got to as a child such as swimming, dancing, singing in front of people, etc.
Respond to this video... What would stop my SVT is sleeping or tips that my doc told me to do, but it would start up again at any given moment. It's scary and very uncomfortable.
Thank you for posting your experience, it made mine go a bit easier i only had it on wednesday. The only thing is i did feel the whole thing, but i already feel that it has worked.
They say that a-fib starts in the pulmonary veins but why is it that 99% of anyone who has a-fib go into it, after drinking a ice cold coke! I will tell you why, its because also us people with a-fib have what i like to describe as fibromyalgia of the esophagus cardiac sphincter area, i can tell before i go into a-fib, just because how sensitive my throat and esophagus feels and how painful cold things feel when drinking them, and when i lay down, it throbs so? you guess?
I began having palpiations when I was pregnant with my second child, I was 22. They were unpredictable during pregnancy. After I gave birth, they dissappeared but they were in the background and if I did feel them I would use the recommended techniques to stop them. Two years after I gave birth, I had an episode that did not stop until an adenosine was admistered. It took three more yearsto muster the courage to have the cryoablation done. They are gone now but I fear that they will return.
thank you for this! i have SVT.dont drink coffee, tea, or pop. was addicted to the Monster energy drinks and had 4-6 a day.my heart was at 180-210bpm.had mine since i was 15-16 yrs old.it didnt happen often enough to have concern but after i started drinking the monsters...one lasted for 3 hrs.that was the first time i was injected with adenosine..it IS the craziest feeling ever... but i had to be injected about 4 times now and at least u know what to expect now. surgery in 3 months. :)
Hello. I am scheduled to have ablation done in three weeks. I have had this condition since I was 14 and i am now 29. I am a doctor myself, but that doesn't change the fact that I am scared and hoping that I make the right decision. I also am heavily involved in dance and can't think of anything worse than to have a palpable pacemaker sticking out of my body. I thank you for your video as it is encouraging. I am seeing Dr. Robin Clegg in Calgary AB if anyone has any information.
@AdvantageAerial8352 I've had mine since 22 and had the procedure done when I was 27...it's two years since and they are gone. I love to dance and workout and used to do so with fear of an attack but now can dance and work out to my heart's content. Good Luck
SVT can actually go on for days without stopping, but it's no fun. I had SVT for years and finally had an ablation because my episodes were daily and my heart rate was 300. I had a collapsed lung from the surgery. Now they are doing cryoblations because there has been too many complications with ablations. So if anyone is considering having an ablation then discuss your options such as the cryo I mentioned. BTW, years after my ablation my SVT came back...and that's after 12 holes were burned out
TIP for anyone who has this: I used to have svt and this is how i stopped the heart from beating fast. I would take in a full breath, hold it and then crouch down and just push (the stomach) as if youre trying to control your break, imagine slowing down the heart beat, and well it slows it down but it doesnt cure the problem
My son has to have this procedure for PSVT next month. Both he and I are both nervous about it. Thank you for your video. It has helped set my mind at ease. I plan on having my son view it so that he can also be put more at ease.

Did you had general anesthesia or just given pain med by IV during your ablation?
My husband wasn't given that choice with general anesthesia and he felt every zap during his 4 hours ordeal. It was sheer torture for him. He has high tolerance for pain but I don't think I would survive such pain.
Thank you, Nat! I had an ablation done on April 25. When I learned about the procedure, I didn't think twice about it. It's amazing that our experiences before and after sound identical. The worst part about the procedure was that one of the entry sites bled when I walked 5 hours after it was done, but I have been fine since. A few skipped beats here and there, but hearing that you have experienced the same thing makes me feel a lot better! I'm glad I did it, and thanks for spreading the word.
thank you soo much for your video!i was having simular attacks and was hospitalised for two days!i will be on tablets for teh rest of my life so im hopeing my cardioloist might offer me this alternative!
My baby was born with SVT. She is 1 now. Thanks for the video blog. It was very helpful. We are still trying to decide if we should do it young or wait and let her decide.
I am researching what happens as I am having it tomorrow morning, March 14th. Thank you for sharing your experience as I am having a hard time finding those who have done it and I am terrified. I was diagnosed with SVT and WPW so I am hoping this is a cure. You are awesome for posting this and allowing me to feel better about it- soecially about the not remembering Twilight part as I am having a lot of anxiety and the less I remember- the better at this point! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I just decided today to have the ablation for SVT and atrial fibrillation. I have been putting off this decision because I was scared to have it done, but after viewing your video it has made me feel sooooo much better about having it done. I am scheduled to have it done April 1st. I am so happy that you are doing well after the procedure. How kind of you to make this video for those of us who need the encouragement. God Bless!
@lhaas771 Good luck with your operation. I'm sure it will go well. Thanks for the kind comment. I'm am still going well. There are so many horror stories online so I'm happy to show my realistic positive one! Let me know how you go.
@crazynat37 I had my ablation for the SVT yesterday, 4/1, and everything went well. I did notice today that my heart did, what you said, a little thump feeling, and once a few seconds of fast beat. But certainly nothing like I felt with the SVT. I am so glad I had the ablation and I would encourage anyone who suffers with SVT to have it done! I'm a 51 year old woman and believe me it was the best decision. Thank you again for posting your video. I learned more from your video than things I read.
@lhaas771 i meant to reply and accidentally gave you thumbs down sorry. i have to have this done march 18th. do you know any one who died from the ablation?
Hey, I was recently diagnosed with SVT too, Ive had this for abt 7 years but docs always attributed it to panic attack and disregard it, only after Holter Monitoring did we find this mass murderer of my Attacks. But yeh Doc recommended Cather ablation but Im scared of the complications, that 3% risk scared me, how did u go thru it, and also what kind of SVT did u have, I suspect mine is atrial flutter
hi i had this operation 11 years ago.. my heart used to beat 265bpm!!! i have been ok since :) the best thing i ever had done. I was only 10 at the time and it was very scary, but was well worth it i would tell everyone who has svt to have it done asap!!!
Hi:) i got this done just 2days back, am home already & it was a million times better than what i had expected. The entire procedure was almost painless.I decided to post this for all the people who would be going through this...PLEASE DO NOT FEAR:)ITS OVER BEFORE YOU EVEN KNOW IT!:) GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS! I lived with this for years & wish i had only taken this option more seriously;)
Thanks for sharing. I am 25 years old & I have SVT. I get the episodes quite frequently, but I am able to control it with breathing techniques so they only last 10 seconds or so. S ometimes I get about 50 episodes in one day though. This past month the doctor prescribed me Metoprolol, it has almost gotten rid of all my SVT episodes! I can drink coffee now! BUT, I don't want to live off of meds 4 the rest of my life, so I'm scheduled to have my surgery on March 7th. I can't want to be "cured"!
Thank you so much for posting this. I really appreciate it. I'm getting an ablation in 2 weeks for my SVT. I've had it all my life, I'm 16. It wasnt that bad, but nowadays my attacks last for around 2 hours! Anedonise didnt even work! I remember once I had 3 doses in one episode before it just stopped by itself. It was a horrible feeling. I'm really nervous, but you've somewhat eased my nerves, I'm so thankful I there are other people in the same boat as me. (p.s Ive gotten to 320 before)
Thank you so much for your video, im 22 and ive been experiencing SVT since i was about 17, ive had some pretty bad attacks, and im going through with the procedure within the next 3 weeks and i HAVE NO IDEA what to expect. Im like terrified that something bad is gonna happen during it, or im afraid that my heart will burn after the surgery is over with. Like can u explain a little more detail how like the "Twilight" stage was during it??? I know im gonna be awake too, thanks for the video.
thank you so much for putting this up! I'm getting this procedure done in about two weeks and I am a bit nervous. I've had a rare form of SVT for the last 3 years (and I can definitely agree that adenosine is really terrible!) it was so nice to hear your opinions of the operation, especially as I am a bit nervous and your positive experience is certainly a comfort :)
Great video and important for those who are considering the procedure. Everyone is different, but I had the procedure one year ago. Was awake..it is a bit freaky and interesting all at the same time. Did not hurt, recovery did not hurt. However, heart took 6-9 months to start to settle down. Almost no racing now, skipped beats and a bit of discomfort still, but 90% better. Would I recommend it......100% yes. What they can do now is wild, go for it, very successful for most, good luck to all!
My 16 year old daughter just had this done on Dec.17th 2010. Her SVT's went into the 208-210 bpm.She wants to go to VMI and possibly the military and they will not accept you with SVT,neither can you play college sports. You have to be episode free for 2 years. She choose cryo-ablation.She felt no pain and watched some of it.Her words "it was fun."Only the IV hurt a little. The Dr. said it was 95% successful and only a 5-10% chance of it coming back. She said she would do it again if need be.
@josh8stagner are you sure urs was cyro ablation because this is relatively new compared to reg Cather ablation, my doc has also recommend ablation, but Im scared and dont know whether to choose Cather ablation or cyro ablation. Plus what hospital and doctor did you choose for the procedure?
@johnsandhu -Yes this was a cryoablation. Her doctor was Dr. George McDaniel at UVA Pediatric Cardiology. He does only Pediatric ablations. It is much safer. She recommends it to anyone with SVT.She thought it was "fun". She had one small incision where her jugglar is and 3 small incisions in her groin- where her leg meets her hip.She felt nothing but a little tug. She even watched some of the procedure. She thought it was "Fun".The only bad part was she got really sick when the anthesia wore off.
Everyone's experience with this procedure is VERY different. I am undergo my 3rd one tomorrow. The initial part is not bad, however, depending on what area inside the heart he burns, or fi he makes you stay awake for this procedure, can cause a LOT of pain. With some people the sedation prevents the arrhythmia from being induced by the doctor so he may wake you up and keep you awake. Mine felt like hot coals from a BBQ pit were dropped into my chest and my chest was then closed back up for 10h.
Thank you very much for making this great video, it really helped me last week prior to my ablation. The doctor says with a probability of 99% I'm now cured.
I have had AV Node Reentry Tachycardia (AVNRT) for 12 years, with HR as high as 200 and lasting for hours. The procedure was really easy (probably easier than a root canal). The most important thing to remember is to choose your doctor very carefully, making sure he has many YEARS of experience and a very clean track record.
I am a 57 yr old male, no cardiac disease. Had 2 ablations. First was a failure, went into arrhymia immediately after, almost bought the farm. Stayed 9 days while they infused me with amniodorone, nasty stuff usually reserved for chronically ill heart patients. Second ablation was as close to perfect as could be. Off all meds now, no problems. The desire to get off all the meds I was on, well exceeded the risk. When meds fail, do this. Even for what I went through, it was really worth it.
I had a sucessful ablation three years ago! Very scary albeit but the benefits are VERY worth it. Bicuspid valve with enlarged aortal chamber is still hanging over me like storm clouds but life goes on until surgery. If ur faced with the procedure... Be strong!
i also had s.v.t, my heart beat was 300 beats per minute, but my experience was bad because as you know it is a new surgrey, and i was one of the first and they didnt really noe what to do, my legs stayed numb for 3 weeks
I go for the surgery monday afternoon. :( i have had SVT since i was 6. i am 31 now. Yeah an attack is irritating especially when they don't stop. my heart rate usually peaks at 270.4BPM and usualy have to have adenosine which i actually love the feeling when they inject it. very euphoric for me. But the last time they had to difibrilate be twice to get it to stop. :( don't remember it because they put me out. Anyway im pretty nervous about the ep study/abliation. Hope mine goes as as yours :)
Hi, I am 18 and my cardiologist has recommended this procedure for me too. I am really nervous and not sure whether to go ahead with it. If you don't mind me asking, what is the scar like? x
@Annabellemsmith Hey, the scar is not even visable anymore and it hasn't even been a year since my prodecdure! For a while I had 4 little nicks on my bikini line.. now nothing:-) best of luck!
I have been suffering from SVT for 10 years and have always been able to get it to reset on its own. last week it last 1 hour and I was rushed to the ER and my heart was at 210. I am 36 but handled it well the Dr. was shocked I had not passed out. Well today I went to the cardiologist for the 1st time and he wants to do this procedure. Thanks for the video, I am thinking I am going to do it. who wants to put up with this for 40 or 50 more years.
@crazynat37 Thank you for the kind responce to my comment. I have gone through the progress and I can happily say it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was awake for mine (but only because the doctor explained my SVT was pretty strong and they wanted me to be awake to tell them if and when I felt anything during the ablation). It was the most amazing thing to be a part of. Thank goodness for modern medicine!
Thanks for this video. After reading everything I can find on the procedure, I'm a bit confused, and I hope someone can clear something up. Everyone talks about the surgeon going in through the groin, but every diagram and wound picture I've seen shows the entry to be the top of the thigh, and not the actual crease where leg meets torso. Could some of you please tell me how far (cms or inches) your entry wound was from the actual groin (crease between leg and torso). Any answers appreciated.
@iruvdoggies The way I would explain it is the incisions are on your bikini line - so yes the top of the thigh. They just call it the groin. Maybe in medical terms that's going through the groin.
I was diagnosed with SVT about a month ago. I was put on Beta Blockers in the beginning, but wasn't liking the side effects of feeling sluggish since I'm highly active to begin with. Recently, been having some bad SVT episodes. They are scary as you are well aware of. My Cardiologist this is nothing to worry about, but I beg to differ when they are happening to you. Quality of life is seriously affected.
Anyways, depending on how worse these episodes get (cont)
(cont.) I had SVT pretty bad - 4 pathways in different spots. I was mildly sedated my first time and put under the second. Being awake for the procedure is pretty cool. I got to watch the whole surgery mapped on a screen and what not. It hurt like a crazy being awake and I really felt everything. The worst pain is when they finish - pull out and apply pressure to the open wound (burning the heart hurts too just not as bad). Im glad i was sedated the second time!
I am 20 and have... well had (I hope) SVT as well. I just went under for my second ablation and it is not that bad. My groin area is a little sore but nothing to brag about. I have been experiencing attacks since I was 17 going into college and they told me it was anxiety.. My story is quite like yours and ..well long story short - I believe im cured and I dont know what i would have done if this type of surgery and technology did not exist!
@dark9911 I was also told I sufferd from anxiety, so all the while my family was thinking I was this worrie wart, and nothing wrong witrh me, here I am suffering, unable to do anything. Well they finally put me on a 24 hr. heart monitor and walla! They find that it is SVT. I HAD 37 CASES IN JUST THAT 24 HRS. ;[ I go back to see the doctor soon for a stress test. I am scared to see what he says needs to be done. I caint handle any excercise or anything.

SpiceBaby47 1 week ago

Thank you.

@crazynat- Hi dear.. Your video helps a lot.. I've been having svt's since 2002..
It was like I had one attack every year..
But in 2011 I had two attacks within a space of two months..
I'm on dilzem now..

I've been reading post-op responses from people who've had an ablation and many of them say they felt worse and their heart went crazy for months during the healing process, did you feel worse or have tons of skipped beats or SVT attacks after the surgery, still thinking about having it done...
panitzshea 2 months ago
@panitzshea No I didn't feel worse at all. I still get missed heart beats every now and then but not SVT.
crazynat37 2 months ago
@crazynat37 I've tried to email you a few times because I had lots of questions but it keeps messing up, it's rare to be able to communicate live with someone who's dealth with SVT, I'm still not sure if I want to go through with it, was in hospital last week and given Adenosine again, I feel like when I have the attack, I'm ready for the surgery but when I'm fine, I feel like Ok, maybe I'll wait. I'm scared to death, I've had 4 attacks this year within last 4 months, 6 total. All confusing...
panitzshea 2 months ago

Part of me wants to wait til the attacks are more regular a
panitzshea 2 months ago

I'm so scared that it happens on the plane.
xxshinypinkxx 2 months ago
But at the same time the fear of a heart attack, stroke, a permanent pacemaker or even death :( im only 25. If It works and everything goes fine it could be one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. If something goes wrong I could really screw up the rest of my life. Its a hard pill to swallow. But thank you for making this video. You make it seem like a walk in the park lol. One question though....do you remember when they administered the adrenaline? Did it feel weird or do you know?
bluemoney1928 3 months ago
@bluemoney1928 These risks are so minimal though, particularly if you have a surgeon with a good reputation. Believe my it was no walk in the park. it's the biggest decision I have ever had to make. I'm so glad I chose to go ahead with it.
I really don't remember anything about the operation because they gave me amnesia drugs.
crazynat37 3 months ago
@crazynat37 amnesia drugs lol omg that is awesome! wish i can take that for my b/f hahah. i had it too but i was just numbed up. i had fast heart rate for about a yr after my surgery not fast like over 200 but it was always in the upper 120-140 which was not normal for me but after about a yr it has gone down and no more svt.doctor didnt have any idea y it was beating faster then normal he put me on meds to keep it down but now im off and all is good. man i need some anmesia meds.
tigerbite01 2 months ago
@crazynat37 thats kind of a scary idea - that means you could be in terrible pain or distress you just wouldn't remember. But at the time it would be horrible. I've thought before - if you have pain but don't remember it is that the same as not having it?
I dunno anyway I've had the drug that makes you forget so I sort of know but its just the idea - well actually why would they want you to forget if there wasn't something to forget. i mean if it was pain free why not remember?

sicastproductions 2 months ago
@bluemoney1928 Hey I just thought I'd give you my two bob's worth. I dont believe the used adrenaline to start my SVT, they may have shocked it, either way it doesn't feel that strange. I was completely awake throughout my operation of course I had certain meds used obviously including local anaesthetic at the site or entry. My opinion is that the worst/strangest feeling is when they actually burn the nerve, it's fairly indescribable but over quickly :)
gussey756 1 month ago
I feared that it would happen. I've been lucky to only have episodes a few times a year but it stays with you everyday. I am going to have the ablation because my Meds make me tired and I've gained weight because I'm too afraid to Excercise properly. This video put me more at ease. I'm really afraid of the procedure because I'm so afraid of being in that slim percent of risk. It's such a catch 22 because in one way the joy it brings me to imagine being able to live my life normally is overwhel
bluemoney1928 3 months ago
I've had svt episodes since middle school, I'm now 25 years old. Mine don't happen too often but when they do they are horrifying. They are the worst when I have a fever, which makes a simple virus or sinus infection turn into a nightmare. Your video put me into tears when you were talking about the effect it has on your life because I understood exactly how you felt. Your always afraid to go hiking, or camping, or plane flights or anything that takes you far from a hospital. Even on my wedding

TAKE IT VERY EASY FOR THE FIRST 2 WEEKS AFTER THE ABLATION .!!!!!!
And after the TWO weekS do not exert yourself , take it slowly !! you may still get some symptoms for 3 - 6 months after the ablation . It takes anything from 6 = 3 months for the scar tissue to repair inside the heart .
all the best !!

Sooo, I had it done the other day. I had two IV's going, and was awake the entire operation, (napping on and off for a few minutes sometimes). The only parts that hurt were the IV's, and many needles in both sides of my groin. (To numb the areas). I could actually feel the catheters, and being in an "svt attack" was a little scary.
cootercans 5 months ago
...(continued) Unfortunately, they found more than one problem area. I think about 4 actually, soo they told me I didn't technically have svt, but vt, and they need to talk to specialists and have a cardiac MRI. My heart's still not fixed! Gahhhhhhhh. I will probably have to have this operation done again. Sigh.
cootercans 5 months ago
just had my ablation yesterday! The procedure is actually quick and they give you some crazy anesthesia so even thought you're "conscious" you don't remember ANYTHING. My first conscious memory was laying down on the recovery bed even though I had been talking to my doctor throughout the procedure (apparently begging for medical marijuana). The crotch holes are a tad uncomfortable but nothing serious, and if it cured my SVT, damn worth it!
sebaspasco 5 months ago
My first SVT lasted 6 hours. Since then, the shortest has been 2 hours but I don't get any symptoms with it thankfully. The last time was when i was on holiday with college and no-one in the hospital spoke English, it was so scary. Could you feel it when the tube went through you're body? I might be having it and i'm worried that I'll be awake and able to feel it.
SpiceBaby47 6 months ago
@SpiceBaby47 Hey I had the procedure done when I was 21, and am now almost 31. You get a local anasthetic in your groin and that hurts a tiny bit (needle) and you cant feel the tubes going up. you also get the same thing on your left hand side between your shoulder chest area. I was awake for the whole procedure and it took them 5 hours. you get some 'chill out' drugs, i cant remember what theyre called. The procedure is much safer and faster these days, dont worry you will be fine :)

Thank you for sharing! I had underwent the same procedure a couple months ago for SVT and feel 10 times better, so thankful!

I am having open heart surgery tomorow and plan on getting an ablation in the near future. Your beautiful on a side note

thank you so much for putting this up!

@sarahsea93 Thanks for the comment. How did it go?
crazynat37 1 year ago
Great video and important for those who are considering the procedure. Everyone is different, but I had the procedure one year ago. Was awake..it is a bit freaky and interesting all at the same time. Did not hurt, recovery did not hurt. However, heart took 6-9 months to start to settle down. Almost no racing now, skipped beats and a bit of discomfort still, but 90% better. Would I recommend it......100% yes. What they can do now is wild, go for it, very successful for most, good luck to all!

Thank you for your story, i get skipped heart beats from time to time!
im 26, its shitty but life goes on.

Plus what hospital and doctor did you choose for the procedure?
johnsandhu 1 year ago
@johnsandhu -Yes this was a cryoablation. Her doctor was Dr. George McDaniel at UVA Pediatric Cardiology. He does only Pediatric ablations. It is much safer. She recommends it to anyone with SVT.She thought it was "fun". She had one small incision where her jugglar is and 3 small incisions in her groin- where her leg meets her hip.She felt nothing but a little tug. She even watched some of the procedure. She thought it was "Fun".The only bad part was she got really sick when the anthesia wore off.
josh8stagner 1 year ago

Be strong!

They put a tube in your vein at your leg and move it up to your HEART!?! No way am I doing that.

i also had s.v.t, my heart beat was 300 beats per minute, but my experience was bad because as you know it is a new surgrey, and i was one of the first and they didnt really noe what to do, my legs stayed numb for 3 weeks

@bubblypumpkin Good luck, try not to be nervous. You will be fine. It's very low risk and the benifits are huge.
crazynat37 1 year ago
@crazynat37 Thank you for the kind responce to my comment. I have gone through the progress and I can happily say it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was awake for mine (but only because the doctor explained my SVT was pretty strong and they wanted me to be awake to tell them if and when I felt anything during the ablation). It was the most amazing thing to be a part of. Thank goodness for modern medicine!

hello
thanks for this video-saw my cardiologist today as I was getting svts constantly, had one of 260 last an hour!
Anyway am booked in for this op now and am a tad scared, how much will I feel etc....Thanks again for the positive post.xx

Any answers appreciated.
iruvdoggies 1 year ago
@iruvdoggies The way I would explain it is the incisions are on your bikini line - so yes the top of the thigh. They just call it the groin. Maybe in medical terms that's going through the groin.

Hello Miss.
Shirts1977 1 year ago

My story is quite like yours and ..well long story short - I believe im cured and I dont know what i would have done if this type of surgery and technology did not exist!
dark9911 1 year ago
@dark9911 I was also told I sufferd from anxiety, so all the while my family was thinking I was this worrie wart, and nothing wrong witrh me, here I am suffering, unable to do anything. Well they finally put me on a 24 hr. heart monitor and walla! They find that it is SVT. I HAD 37 CASES IN JUST THAT 24 HRS. ;[ I go back to see the doctor soon for a stress test. I am scared to see what he says needs to be done. I caint handle any excercise or anything.
