  • dsaDSAdwsrewfxd

  • Hi Benjaminmadison, great video, it gives a nice panorama of one of Victoria’s more scenic and historic locations. This video would be great for the Canada’s Got Treasures collection, which aims to feature Canadian videos of personal or cultural significance. Help celebrate Canadian diversity by joining our YouTube group (/group/TresorTreasure) and submitting your video. It would be made available on our channel and website.

  • Miss vic :( japan just isn't home. But god damn this guy's voice, I don't have that accent, I was born and raised here. He's like the slapstick canadian haha.

  • "scons";do you mean scones"?

  • Amongst those who "get that wrong" is the Government of British Columbia who, on the Legislative Assembly website, routinely and often refer to the buildings as the "Parliament Buildings."

  • I escaped from Victoria years ago, it's not everything people think it is. Unemployment and low wages, and the city dumps 100% of all raw sewage directly into the ocean.

It's okay to visit Victoria, but it's a hell hole for anyone who tries to exist there.

  • Its actually called the "Legislature" not the "Parliament buildings" as those are in Ottawa... Amazing how many people get that wrong..

  • i just got back from there for vacation

    Its really nice :D

  • That guy's voice can put one to sleep.

  • if you don't think about the fact that you are on an island you don't feel isolated. find stuff to do.. and its not that bad.

  • This video made me less excited about visiting next month.

  • The music is too loud and the voice can't be understood well.

  • Victoria has some of the best-looking whores in Canada

  • O.O oh wow.

  • Go to milestones restaurant a enjoy! Addicted To Sell...

  • I live here and this is just you touroust crap, north victoria has some nice camping spots and rivers but this is just boring crap to suck you money

  • this music makes me not want to visit.

  • mustangmikeca is hilarious lol

  • i live there XD

  • legislature - not parliament

  • Cook never came to the inner harbor. Knowledge FAIL!

  • This place witnessess some great guerilla noise gigs, if you know where to find them. I wish I had that where I live.

  • there is fun stuff to do in victoria. go to the royal bc museum, the gift shops on government street, if you like to buy cd's go to lyle's place, ditch records, roger's juke box, cd plus (great music! hooray!), go see a movie at the capital 6 or the odeon or if you want a really great movie theatre value go to the roxy - see 2 movies for $3 on tuesdays or $6 for 2 movies every other day. butcharts gardens is pretty nice. it's spring no so there are horse carriage rides now (or soon). PEACE!!!!!!

  • Victoria isn't bad I mean yeah we have shit and drugs here but other places do and we have a stupid needle exchange which I don't think relaly helps

  • there can be fun stuff to do it's a university and college town so there are a good amount of young people, we have quit a few clubs most are pretty cool. Too bad they closed the waterslides though

  • i know it does suck. tho they closed them cause it would have cost SO much to repair them.

  • I like Victoria, the actualy city isn't ig but there are other municipalities ao it's not a small dinky town

  • thank you see for this informative and interesting vid on Vic BC..my girlfriend is from there, and she always tell me how nice it is, and i'm glad to get a better glimpse at this town...thanks!!!

  • cause it was built by the british, and they wanted to keep that look. so when they build new buildings.. they have to sorta look really old and victorian.

  • Those loosers are everywhere!

  • Yeah, i'd have to agree. Unfortunetly im still stuck here.

  • Hello TheEL - Find a partner when you plan your escape, if one finds employment before the other it betters your chances. Good luck.

  • idiot u betta shut up

  • Hello coconutJB - I'm confused. Are you saying that there is a lot of meaningful employment in Victoria? And that there are beautiful clean warm water beaches?

And the houses are affordable? I'm confused, when I was there the beaches were log littered, the water was cold, and the houses were rediculously priced. Maybe things have changed since I was there?

  • beautiful

  • LOL its not the heart of vic. its like on the edge of james bay if you actually knew anything about my city. downtown is the heart. the inner harbour is where all the fucking tourists hangout. fuck tourists. i hate the inner harbour

  • That's not very nice. Tourists MADE your City, and you're probably a descendant of a "Tourist". Be grateful you live where you do, and for the Tourism who makes it possible for you to live there.

  • I'm middle-class, not poor. And learn to spell.

  • yeah .. it is turning into a retirment place though , i will admit that .

  • its not that bad of a place , i` ve grown up here and yeah prices are high . but i don`t feel isolated on an island , like some ppl do . like i `ve said i `ve grown up here , and everyone i know is here . i love it xD i`m going to be moving , but i do know one thing , i will come back to visit when i can . like butchart gardens is amazing. =)

  • My whole Country (UK) is as big as Vancouver Island, and the population here is the same as the WHOLE of Canada!

  • Hope you like population density and high cost of living! Lovin Canada especially BC!

  • I live in victoria and i can be boring it is ment for old people

  • i used to live in victoria and moved to sydney, nova scotia which is in cape breton..... now THAT is a place made for old people... i miss Victoria with a fiery passion because sydney compared to victoria is like a shitty version of langford if you know where that is, compared to toronto... its fucked. i would NOT complain about victoria. at least the downtown is comprised of more than two streets O_o

  • you are a boring person I bet you little bitch

  • no you cant...

  • lol u can see my house in the background

  • Victoria is indeed gorgeous but it's one thing to visit and another to live there.

I recommend visiting Victoria but seriously really think before taking the leap to move out there.

Some disadvantages: it's on an island so there's a strong feeling of isolation, everything's expensive, the city has an inconvenient set-up including public transportation, gets really cold at night, windy climate...

  • i lived there up until june of this yr, i was sad to move.and if you don't think about the fact that your on an island, then you dont really feel isolated.

  • I escaped from Victoria about three years ago. You have to live in that city to understand the poverty, the lack of employment opportunities, and the over priced homes. I was always bewildered how Victoria dumps 100% of their human waste directly into the ocean. Our family is so happy we moved to Ontario where we have found prosperity. When I lived in Victoria my neighbour had to collect empty bottles to suppliment his income, totally pathedic.

  • I'm tired of you fucking ripping on Victoria, your poor ass couldn't live here cause you don't have enough money. Stop posting the negatives of one of the greatest places to live.

  • Too bad your a loser who can't make it in this world

  • I visited Victoria in 1998.

The most interesting people were the young employed and unemployed.

One college girl worked behind a Spanish style bar in a building reminiscent of the wild west and seemed frustrated with her job.

Victoria has a two story library where you can find alot of youths, runaways, and theatre performers.

Some of them seemed addicted to drugs and lived on the street.

One girl carried a wine bottle around with her at midnight.

Its disturbing to see kids beg.

  • Ummm,PA65000, you kind of sound like a pedophile, dude.

  • You have to earn your place in Victoria. Make your fortune somewhere else, like here in Alberta, but then, return to Victoria. It is heaven.

  • I lived in Victoria, the city that dumps 100% of all human waste directly into the water. The city sucks, no meaningful employment, too many street people, over priced homes etc. The health care payable to government was $288 every ninety days for a couple, bloody insane. I moved to Ontario, and now experiencing much more prosperity. If you are a young person, get off the island as soon as you can, or you will grow old with nothing.

  • Victoria's a great little city, its obviously not the largest or most eventful city in the world but its definitely worth visiting... the island in general is beautiful and there's lots to do if you just put a little effort in.

and clearly not everyone becomes addicted to heroin out of boredom; you can't blame that sort of thing on a city

  • Are ya'll serious? Shit! And I wanted to move there if my folks go. At the company where I work alot of the people came over to Ontario from there.............hhhhmmmmm

  • Mkai, I live in victoria and i find that it's really, really boring....anyone agree with me?

  • no i dont agree. If say you lived in Vancouver, you would say its boring and want to move somewhere else. It's just coz ur used to it. It's eays to find stuff to do.

  • No. I live in Victoria and in general it is a small boring city. Vancouver has hockey games, concerts and all sorts of shit to do. Victoria has fuck all.

  • k if u think that.

  • By the way I've lived in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa and they all own Victoria in terms of things to do. Victoria was so boring I ended up getting addicted to heroin.

  • only boring ppl are bored :P

  • Anyway. I am right, you are wrong. Get over it. Victoria fails. Not much to do except enjoy the beauty, no opportunity.

  • thats cause ur used to the big major cities, and as the "getting addicted to heroin" that was your choice, not the result of being in victoria.

  • Hope your out of Victoria you little bitch

  • we actually do have concerts here now that the SAVE-ON-FOOD MEMORIAL ARENA has been built.

  • Victoria has concerts and hockey bitch

  • Hi Fuzzer - I escaped from Victoria and moved to Ontario. If you are a young person, get out of Victoria. There is no meaningful employment there, you will end up an old person with nothing if you stay there.

  • You're probably a boring guy anyways bitch

  • i dislike victoria, 'cause it's fucking boring

  • Great place to visit, terrible place to live in. Trust me, I'm only 24, have well over 100,000 dollars saved and I can't even afford to mortgage a freaking condo!

  • I lived in Victoria for two years 2005-2006, and could not believe how many people were forced to work for cash. There was no meaningful employment anywhere, and most employers paid the minumum wage, with less than a forty hour work week. The cold water log littered beach there was also a joke. The fact the city dumps 100% of all raw sewage into the ocean was pathedic. I was happy to get back to Ontario "and prosperity".

  • What do you mena 'work for cash' and 'meaningful employment'?!?!

And why do you keep posting that everywhere?

Employment is employment - it all has a meaning.

And as far as I know most people in the world work for cash. What else would they work for? Cows? For cash?

  • Working for cash means WORKING FOR CASH, UNDER THE TABLE. Cash, paper money in your hand, without taxes (illegal).

  • I MISS VICTORIA

  • lol....

  • i so miss victoriaa =(

  • Great video! It reminds me of a vacation we took there several years ago. What great memories!

    Thanks for posting,

    Rick

  • music suckz asssz

  • I love calm people. They remind me of Thasis.

  • i live there!

    i love it.

if anyone gose you should have bubble tea!

at the end of china town.

    it's amazing.

    <3

  • Grew up in Victoria, a house price in the early 1980s was 100 thousand for a nice one, then immigration. Prices went through the roof!! Property tax went along for the ride. I honestly could not afford to live there. Houses cost millions in Foul bay.

  • uniquely canadian... anything is something to watch and thank god for YouTube

  • i agry

  • People who are not from Victoria do not understand the social problems that Victoria has. The downtown is full of junkies and it is unsafe to walk in many parts of the Western region of metro area late at night. Lots of assualts and robberies over the years. The Meth epidemic started in Victoria and spread eastwards. Just ask any cop with a brain and they will agree.

  • sorta true, but compared to most other cities victoria doesnt have many junkies at all

  • Try living in downtown east side in vancouver.Victoria is NOTHING compared too that.

  • compared to vancouver, the junkies arent that bad. believe me.. i walk downtown all the time. its not that bad as vancouver, my friend goes there all the time and says that it is way worse.

  • typically Canadian. Boring

  • lol no canadas not boring this is just one persons point of view at it with a really dull sleepy voice

  • You're a boring little bitch

  • sure tea at the empress is nice but if you don't want to spend a fortune try the tea house behind the Legislative buildings, i believe its called the james bay tea house or room,... or something like that. it has a nice cosy feeling to it :)

  • Sometimes there is a yacht docked here, about 200 Ft long, called the Invader, does anyone know who owns it? I'm thinking Jim Pattison...haha

  • The Provincial elected officials are M.L.A.'s or Members of the Legislative Assembly

  • I've been there so many times, I love all the venders and stuff you can find some nice bracelets

  • I was there in june cest la vie

  • boooorrriiinnngggg

  • the narrator was to quiet

  • Nicely done. But the music makes me want to fall asleep!

  • yeah but its way bigger then this

  • I live here ^__^ By the way, those are the Legislative buildings. The Parliament buildings are in Ottawa.

Overall, nice video. It has that 'tour' feeling to it. :)

  • i was there in august 2006

  • Pet peeve: The "Parliament Building" (ie federal gov't) is located in Ottawa. There are no other "parliament" buildings in Canada. The building to which you are referring to in the video is the "Legislative" (ie provincial) building of the province of British Columbia. All provinces (and territories)have some manner of legislative building.

  • Thanks - of course you are absolutely correct. This adds to my realization that I need to script what I say in order to avoid sharing my misconceptions - Captain Cook never stopped in Victoria either - his landfall was at Yuquot on Nootka Sound.... Time to re-do this!

  • Don't apologize too quickly. Are not elected representatives referred to as M.P.P.'s - Members of Provincial Parliament? If so Parliament Building may not be all that wrong. In any event if a debate is in order suggest we meet at the Irish Times for discussion over a couple of pints...

  • Good video.
