I get what your saying but there is never a "fair" fight, especially when it comes to Orochimaru. He didn't have a "fair" fight with the 3rd Hokage, he didn't have a "fair" fight when he tried to assassinate Itachi. The closest he ever had to one was when him and Kabuto encountered Jaraiya and Tsunade. Oh and his "Yamata no Jutsu" is actually an extremely powerful move so he couldn't have been too weak at the time.

I always wondered why Kakashi let Naruto finish off the 30% Itachi clone. Did he want to conserve chakra because he felt something was off about Itachi's power, or did he want Naruto to have the spotlight?
Kakashi's clone dug underground to attack Itachi, why not do it a second time with his real self after Itachi got trapped by the clone? He could have popped out with a Raikiri or something. =P

Also, the mist prevents only eye contact and the standard dojutsu. The sharingan can still see their chakra, even through the ground. (watch sasukes fight with deidara. He sees the landmines by the chakras colour.)

@Graanii Not quite. Not only did it have only 30% of his chakra but also it is unable to use the mangekyo sharingan wich hosts Itachi's most powerfull jutsu. So aside from only being able to use 30% of his chakra it is also unable to use neither Tsukuyomi,or Amaterasu,let alone Susanoo. So it was a far cry from Itachi's actual powers.

There's no telling what would have happened if Itachi would have fought orochimaru in his prime (when orochimaru fought sandaime). Don't forget Orochimaru resurrected both Shodai Hokage and Nidaime Hokage.
Also when Jiraiya fought against Orochimaru he didn't use his trump card (sage mode).

@Random1567 No, what I meant is Itachi's true power is not used, be it by the clone or by himself. Itachi by himself nearly killed (well he held back of course out of respect) kakashi w/ one glance. So, in this case, he is pretty much using less than 30% of what he is. Actually he is just delaying them from reaching Gaara.

However, it was his choice to dictate how powerful he became. Itachi could have easily captured Naruto so many times, but since Itachi knows that Madara is the one pulling the strings in akatsuki, and knowing what Madara would do with nine-tails if Madadra captures it. Itachi is doing his best to delay as long as possible.
Kabuto stated that Itachi managed to get past the eyes of Nagato and all the summonings, and Naruto said that all of Pain's moves were faster and stronger than when he was alive. That being said, Itachi could probably beat Nagato.

2 years of training and all Naruto had to show for it was a larger Oodama Rasengan, that's so pathetic.
Kakashi's Mangekyo Sharingan was a much cooler improvement, hell even Sakura improved more then Naruto did.
And Sasuke improved the most and basically raped them in the reunion, without Yamato they'd all have died.

@AdiF50Ronaldo7 Also, Itachi didn't fight Orochimaru in his prime. Orochimaru was still considerably weak in his time in the akatsuki. There's no telling what would have happened if Itachi would have fought orochimaru in his prime (when orochimaru fought sandaime). Don't forget Orochimaru resurrected both Shodai Hokage and Nidaime Hokage.
Also when Jiraiya fought against Orochimaru he didn't use his trump card (sage mode).
Also Jiraiya nearly defeated both Kisame and Itachi.

@j3rome88 His main body was killed and he came from a fucking curse mark being feeble etc. Besides it wasn't a proper match since Itachi already had his susanoo up and Orochimaru was in an awkward position. Orochimaru could have used Edo Tensei and Itachi would have needed to deal with both the First and the Second Hokage. No way he would have won.

That means that Itachi was stronger than Orochimaru when he was in Akatsuki and when he was in an unfavorable position with only a fraction of his strength left. And yes, we can say "what if" and "if would've" quite easily, and if Itachi was against Orochimaru in a fair and square battle when Orochimaru was in his prime Itachi at least couldn't have "destroyed" Orochimaru as you seem to imply.

@TomValedro It wouldnt matter anyway, from what we have seen Susanoo is the ultimate weapon, neither Oro nor Jiraiya have anything to match. Also Jiraiya didnt nearly defeat Kisame and Itachi. If we are going by quotes then Orochimaru said himself that Itachi was stronger than him.

@Random1567 No, what I meant is Itachi's true power is not used, be it by the clone or by himself. Itachi by himself nearly killed (well he held back of course out of respect) kakashi w/ one glance. So, in this case, he is pretty much using less than 30% of what he is. Actually he is just delaying them from reaching Gaara.

@054martinm sasuke is not stronger than itachi and naruto either, sasuke has the same techniques than itachi, and a weaker genjutsu. u dont know wht ur talking abt. itachi could take down current naruto and sasuke. first of all, naruto has never been exposed to the tsukuyomi, meaning: if itachi uses it aginst him, naruto is doomed.

@McJoKeR17 its been said repeatedly by orochimaru and others that sasuke has surpassed itachi at the relevant level. for example sasukes amaterasu is better. itachi has absolutely no chance vs an EMS user and a jinchuriki. genjutsu cant affect jins, and naruto is way too fast and strong for itachis normal attacks. he cant just sit in susanoo either. and sasuke can just use kirin after itachi runs out of stamina overusing susanoo. naruto is not doomed. you just think tsukiyomi is invincible

@054martinm they said tht sasuke surpassed itachi, but also said tht itachi has shown only have of the strenght. to use kirin u use almost all ur chacra. even when used, itachi has susanoo, sasuke has the amaterasu in both eyes and is a lil stronger than itachis cuz he doesnt have the genjutsu tht itachi has. also genjutsu affects jinchurikis, when naruto fought the 30% itachi, got caught in one, even when itachi didnt used the mangekyo sharingan

@McJoKeR17 Sasuke's a little bitch anyway- he didn't actually earn most of his strength - got cursed by orochimaru, got power given to him by Itachi...he's like the Cell of Naruto - just using other people's powers. He still doesn't have the strength of genjutsu that Itachi had, true...and it is pretty obvious that Itachi was not really trying to kill him when they fought, or he'd have pulled out his big guns and ended him.

@054martinm He would not obtain EMS, he easily could have had he wanted. As a matter of fact, he could easily surpass everyone, had he wanted to. However, it was his choice to dictate how powerful he became. His true genius is shown in his ability to foresee the fates of his peers and then act accordingly, sometimes years ahead of when it is required.

@jijdom Itachi is not stronger than Nagato. He might beat him but he's not stronger. Even if he "beat" Nagato it would be like 2 sports teams. It doesn't matter if you win once. The other team can win the next four in a row. I believe Itachi can beat Nagato about 3 or 4 out of 10. Now if you put Pain against Itachi, he loses about 9 out of 10. Pain with six bodies destroyed all of konoha. Itachi cannot do that. Period. Plus Nagato would have more vision with six bodies.

jiraiya cant even come close to itachi...jiraiya almost died fighting a 4 tailed naruto just like oro..pain fought a naruto at 8 tails..now naruto is fully charged and cant even put a scratch on nagato. the whole itachi saying he would die fighting jiraiya is becuz he is double talking..he's in crime group that doesn't know how strong he really is, just to keep his motives secret. did someone say itachi can't dispell kakashi mangekyou attack plz if madara can do it itachi definitely can..itachi's only rival is nagato..and that fight was anti-climatic becuz kabuto controlled nagato during the battle, and on top of that nagato broke free and wanted to get hit with the susanoo..so itachi was fighting a man that wanted to die,not a real fight..but it was good to see a clash of great power in the series..which goes to show naruto is nowhere in their league and never will be.

So, Itachi's badassitude shown in the latest manga chapters got me thinking.... was Itachi Kakashi's superior during in the ANBU? Kakashi obviously considers Itachi on a higher level than him (at least in skill) and he says Itachi was an ANBU captain at 13, so is there any indication about this?
