@clavis55 Thank you Marcus. It is so long since I recorded this that I can't remember what Tiersen's tempo was. I'm sure you can do your own interpretation as long as it is within the bounds of the score. If you do something radically different, you would have to describe it as a 'paraphrase'!
@PsearPianist: Bonjour, I am a french "fan" of Tiersen...Your interpretation is really good! Have you heard about "Good by Lenin" and "Tabarly"'s soundtrack, both from Yann too?? if not, you should listen.... (the album "Rue des cascades" is amazing too...)
Bon....I'm waiting for a piece of Philip Glass by now... ^^
@PSearPianist I found them, sorry! so I've just listened you playing Wichita Vortex Sutra and the Metamorphosis and...you play them much more better than Glass himself does nowadays!
An other brillant minimalist that maybe you already know: Jeroen Van Veen, and his minimal works...
@GlassAuChopin Thank you for that. I don't know Van Veen, but will look him out. Although I would not describe him as a minimalist, I am a big fan of Louis Andriessen.
@44433391 If you are referring to sightreading, what i mean is that I would only want to put a video on here that has my considered interpretation of a piece. If I put videos on here of music I had never seen before and represented my first ever play through, they might be full of mistakes, and would not give a proper realisation of the composer's intentions.
Fantastic playing I'm guessing you just sight read all of this for the first time maybe? I just started to listen to Tiersen after the Amelie Poulain movie you definitely encourage more people to play
Wow, you are really good. I can´t play as good as you do, but i am trying to play this piece too, and i find it very hard playing both the left and the right hand at the same time. But i will get better at it eventually :D
Thank you. I doubt if I will do much more Tiersen (as I have done videos of most of the pieces that I have that are suitable) but I'm sure there are plenty of other things to come!
It was really beautiful, i love the way you play .. im a pianist as well .. and well i also love Yann Tiersen's music. One question do you know where could i get the set "Onze pieces pour piano".. or if i you could send it to me ? .. cause im always looking for sheet music of Y.T.. and i'd love to have it! ..thnks
Thank you for your kind comment. For copyright reasons I can't send the music to you. My book was published by BMG France and has a plain white cover. I am not sure if it is in print. However I think that there are various compilation books avalable that contain the pieces.
Thankyou so much for putting this up, I didnt even know there was a comptine d'ete no 1! Or the fact that theres a set called "Onze pieces pour piano". I love the way you play, simply beautiful., listeen to it everyday.
Nicely done. Personally I prefer this without any use of the sustain pedal, just connecting the notes by hand. Could use polishing in many places, but considering how huge your repertoire is it's understandable that not every piece can be polished to perfection;)
Thank you for your comment. It prompted me to listen to it again. For me the amout of pedal is about right. The only 'polishing' I can see that I could do is to bring down the relative volume of some of the broken chord figures - but without excessive use of the soft pedal, I could not do that on my piano, which has quite a bright middle register.
Thanks for your kind comment, Daniel. I do not have this piece, and as it is in copyright I would need to buy the book or get it from a library before I play it on YouTube - but i will certainly look out for it!
Hi Phillip, I am currently attempting to learn this piece and I thought I might ask a question of you since you are doing such a wonderful job on it here. :)
I am having trouble with the left hand on the third bass measure, having to keep that lower F pressed while hitting the one-octave-higher G.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I think you are using the pedal, should I be too? If so, does Yann Tiersen have really huge hands or did he just neglect to mark pedal use on the sheet?
Thanks for your comment. I have not got particularly large hands, but I can hold the F and the G simultaneously. Actually I do use some pedal so that the piece does not sound too dry, so if you can't stretch a ninth you may be able to create the desired effect using some half-pedalling.
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can't send you the score - it is in copyright. However, books of Yann Tiersen's pieces are readily available from online music sellers.
I think it is possible to play these pieces in another tempo like Tiersen. What do you think?
I recently recorded something of Tiersen.
I think you have the right tempo!
Thank you Philipp!

Any chance of #4? I remember hearing a toy-piano version of it which was surprisingly nicer than the harpsichord one.
There's something about Toy Piano versions that makes them just a bit more... fun, I guess. Wish I could play them on any instrument.
