Wow! I remember...remember...seeing DA on this tour. This was one of the first "multi-media" concerts with the video background. The incredible U2 360 tour with "The Claw" has its roots in this tour. The song I most remember from this tour was the song "Good Choice, Bad Choice" which featured on the background video various TV evangelists including one of my mentors, Fr. John Bertolucci. I wasn't sure if he was being portrayed as a "good choice" or bad choice.'
"I did not have sexual intercourse with your son, I only fondled him.. I was very proud of your son, the way he repeatedly fought off my sexual advances most of the time. I want you to know that I still love your son after all these years." --The alleged words of Rev. John Bertolucci....
Now, if a child molester is a "good choice" to you....then I have reason to wonder???
Of course that was in the mid-80's, about 2 decades before the news of his crimes came to light. Now we know that he, along with Fr. Ken Roberts., Fr. Bruce Ritter, Fr. Dale Fushek, Fr. Marciel Maciel, etc.. go under the category of "horrendous choice."
@yankeefan1a it does exist on DA Live Bootleg. Released on Stunt Records in the early 90's. It was a show in St. Louis recorded on a four track. The band had to use borrowed equipment as theirs had been stolen just prior to set up.
Sanctuary is my favorite song by the musical genius of Terry Taylor. We saw this concert in 84 in Iowa then called the Doppelganger tour. And we have seen Terry and friends many amazing times since then, Just saw hin in Rock Island Il last month with his son Andrew on bass and Steve Hindalong on drums and still amazing.
This song is quite special to me. At the time I first heard it, I was dealing with a friend's suicide. God used this song to remind me that He is our Sanctuary and our source of comfort in our darkest hours.
It's one of the better ones, I would agree. Just so many good ones. I put TST up there with Robert Hunter as the two best song writers of our time. I cannot think of anyone else who even comes close to TST.
This is the first time I have heard this version of this song. I am more used to Deliverance's version of it. Wish someone would post that version on here. I would but I don't have the album.
This is the "original" version, by the original artist/band, featuring the songwriter (Terry Scott Taylor, extraordinaire) on vocals. Thank you for your comment!
I never was intorduced to Terry Taylor until recently. I know but better late than never back in his day I was metal only and didnt care for what little i heard of Terry's music. At the time it was way to modern and soft for me. I do love Deliverance version of this song too
What a fantastic song by a fantastic band. It really makes me sad how CCM listeners immediately abandon their bands after they aren't on hit Christian radio. If DA were a secular band, they would still sell well today like all the secular bands they influenced. Very sad.
And who runs Christian radio? Christians? Think again. I think Mike Knott made that point quite well with his Cash in Chaos World Tour CD. Radio Satan...great tune. I haven't listened to "Christian" radio since 1981. Don't miss it either. Thank God for the Internet.
I got to see DA this same tour at Magic Mountain in Calif - they had a "Christian Rock Night" with DA, Randy Stonehill, Phil Keaggy, and Farrell & Farrell.
3 out of four rocked my socks off (the fourth wasn't bad, just outclassed) - you can guess which were the three...
What a great version of this song. Every song that Terry has written is my favorite when I hear it. He has an uncanny musical and lyric ability to plumb unspoken fear and longing. Someday I would like to sit down and talk to this man for hours. Maybe in Heaven. Thank you, Terry, for being faithful to use the gifts G-d gave you.
DA is an incredible band. Their music, their lyrics, their ability -- second to none. How fortunate that we Christians can call them our own. What will heaven be like with so many great musical minds: Larry Norman, Bob Hartman, DA, Glenn Kaiser, Keith Green, etc.
It's great to hear the original version at last. The first time I heard this song was the cover by Deliverance. I love their gloom-metal version. Really brought out the essense of the song I thought.
The thing I have always loved about terry taylor and company, is that in each different song you can hear a totally different influence inflection....here he sounds remarkably like old dave bowie.
Awesome, epic song! The Deliverance version is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard, almost 15 years later and I never get tired of hearing it. I've never heard the whole original song though, I'd love to get a copy of it.
I was privileged to see DA perform Sanctuary on this tour in '84, and again in '89 at Cornerstone. It is one my all time favorite songs.
Such a powerful song and music.
Thanks for posting!!!!

I was lucky enough to see DA in Columbus Ohio in the mid-80's at The Fish House Fellowship.
They still are one of my favorite rack bands... ever.
They opened with a song that ab-SO-lute-ly kicked the audiences collective back-side.
If I remember correctly, it was titled "I'm on Your Team" .
Does anyone know if it exists on disc, vinyl, or tape?

That's a pretty tough statement to make considering the 500 or so great tunes he has written.

True, but its in my top 5 Ultimate Terry Taylor/DA/Da/Swirling Eddies/Daniel Amos/Lost Dogs, etc. Songs. Or top 1%.
He's literally one of my all-time favorite songwriters. Its a bit tough, but true.

No need to be a jerk.
It's a legitimate question, The song was written just after his Grandfather died. It's about God comforting his hurting child.

The image is of the drummer, Ed McTaggart, in Doppalganger makeup. (Sorry for the rude person...Whoops! Where did that comment go???)
