Drill, drill, drill isn't a short term solution. The pay-off to this is years away as are the vast majority of other solutions. Remember the shorelines of California and Florida are their bread and butter. Screw them up and they are done. Oil companies drill the leased sites you already have.

Bush/McCain controlled Congress and the White House for six years yet didn't do a damn thing about energy, apart from allowing oil futures trading to be unregulated--creating the "Enron loophole" and causing rampant specualtion. There have always been wars. There will be more, but while we are still dealing with the disaster the Iraq occupation has been I'd be more comfortable voting for someone who is more interested in diplomacy with other nations and focusing on dealing with terrorism. Terrorism is not a "war" - it is criminality on a major scale. McCain would be very happy to have the opprotunity to be a "war president".

Diplomacy is infinitely preferable to war. But the disaster of the Iraq occupation would not change the likelihood of diplomacy succeeding.

Certain countries not only allow terrorist groups to operate but manage to quietly get funding and equipment to them. Neither the NYPD nor the FBI can do much about a state-sponsor of terrorism.

Unless you want to forever be reacting AFTER terrorist attacks, with police investigations, perhaps war may play a part in the struggle against IslamIST terrorism?

I don't know if you support Barack Obama or not but I think it's relevant for everyone to note that he calls himself a "hawk" when it comes to defeating terrorism.
