When I first discovered Martin and Lewis 5 or 6 years ago, I had never laughed so hard at comedy in my life. The same holds true today. Love them both. <3
does anybody else think that when Jerry does his deep voice ("some of those guards are peeping toms") he sounds a little like bullwinkle, the moose, off the old cartoon rocky and bullwinkle?...that might just be me too... :)
1:25 when Jerry comes around the set - he says .."I Came Through The Wick"..
refering to old theater lighting along the downstage front edge of the stage "FOOTLIGHTS" - the row of candles- or wicks.... these were later replaced by
@rentatrip1 I think he might have said the he "came through the brick" since he came through the invisible set brick jail wall. But hey it was a brick that was light by the wick so I guess were all right!

No no these guys are so funny wow! hahahahahahah I just love it man! great shows, real comedians and that goes to show some real dummies how to make people laugh without bad words and sex crap.
@hazzamanvid12 I asked the same question and someone said he says: Did ya ever take it on the lam (make a clean getaway) with the shamus (private detective in this case a police accomplice) who had the talk (make a deal) with the side (working for) of the Gs (government men- feds, FBI). LOL Hillarious :D

Dont know why I have some much with posting a comment.lol. Great vid- luv Jerry and Dean always so funny. Dean had the perfect accent for this skit. I think what Dean said to Jerry (and it actually makes sense) was something like this: Did ya ever take it on the lam (make a clean getaway) with the shamus (private detective in this case a police accomplice) who had the talk (make a deal) with the side (working for) of the Gs (government men- feds, FBI).
@bierdon Jerry is from near where I am from I recognized his english right off! Where are you from? The other guy sais "Hey U -U ever packed a G(gun) on your hip when u copped a heist?
as much as i love these 2, this was scripted aswell, in the middle of it dean says something and jerry says 'he add libbed, i dont know where i am now??' but i agree with he rest of your statement
i love dean and jerry :D i just wish more ppl as young as i am knew about them :/ i got no one to watch them with besides my dad and grandpa :P they rock!!
Yeah I'd also like to know exactly what the other fella and Dean said that made them all laugh.
It makes me laugh too, I can't even make out everything Dean said but I still find it hilarious. I imagine it has something to do with them being absolute comic geniuses.
if ne one gets a chance read Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis: A Love Story. omG it is the most amazing book. funny as hell!! it was written by jerry lewis nd its the best biography iv ever read
Dean was a genius and so was Jerry they were great together. Jerry said they did ad-lib a lot. Jerry also said Dean knew how to get him back to where he was suppose to be. It is a shame we don't have comics that can do this stuff as easily as these 2 guys did it. Miss them from the scene.
I love this skit because it shows Dean's comedic genius that he wasn't given much credit for in those days. He adlibbed, and jerry went off in a tangent, and he knew exactly how to get him back on track. genius.
Avtually, if it were a director who was on top of his game, and he'd have to be to work for NBC, he'd be able to work with the ad-libbing by watching his monitors, when Jerry was speaking on preview, they'd just bump him over to program and voila, you see him on your screen. Directors just gotta bring their A-game...it's a very hectic field...that's probably why most of them chain smoke...
haha I've never seen Jerry Lewis before, this slapstick stuff is great! Only i can't hear at all what they're saying from 2:06-2:36. Thx for showing this!
lol its just all ad lib from there. they just forgot their lines and went along wit it. oh i wish they stil did those so good just lik back in those days.
This was no ad lib. They had it all planned. When you watch the entire show you're made to think that things are ad libbed. it wasn't an ad lib, it was that dean just messed up the line. the other guy says "hey you, you ever packed a g on your hip when you copped a heist?!" to which jerry says "whaaaaa?"
(keep in mind that dean is famous for hating rehearsals, during his 70's variety show, he rarely rehearsed) dean then says "did you ever take it on the lam with a shamus who has a..) and that's where it's just incoherrant babble lol..he just forgot the line and ad libed the rest. made jerry laff!
the line was intentionally made to be unintelligible as it was some sort street talk not understood by everyone, my guess is that dean got the line as best as he could, but it just came out funny lol
Hey funny clip, this is way back in the day of slapstick comedy!!! I reckon this particular episode of the Colgate Comedy Hour was originally done in colour as there's distinct faint vertical lines on the left side of the picture which is what is seen on those early RCA TK-40/41 colour cameras of the 50s.
what does dean adlib? something about a lamb? and what does the other man ask jerry to make sure he isn't a stool pigeon? the sound quality isn't the best on some of these old tv clips, but i'm not blaming the clipper. haha ;-)
I know, these old shows have really bad sound quality sometimes. I can't really tell what they're saying. I think it's just sort of supposed to be mumbo jumbo that doesn't make sense anyway. I wish I knew though
also something about a shamus, which is a private detective..so he's talking about escaping from a private eye.. but i can't figure out the other two words
@igvmyslf1000pts -...hay you ...YOU ever Packed a "G" on your hip when you copped a hiest ?
