The college I went to had a huge mural painting of the picture at 1:31 in it's gallery as you walked into the building. Only me, my girlfriend, and five of my friends knew what the picture was actually from.
i think that songs that have no lyrics from tool are supposed to be combined with others and make a perfect song thats why the name is tool beacause they give you the tool to create your own song your own opinion your own decision of the song position etc ..
What's really hidden is how perfect Parabola goes with the video to Vicarious. If you don't believe me its on my main page. It works so well I even suspect it was made for it originally.
@james2ecb *facepalm* hope you trollin... else try watching the bottom of a few of the images... there are obvious hints. again... hopefully you were just trullin'...
Dude, you didn't mix it right. It's supposed to be 10,000 Days and Viginty Tres followed by Wing for Marie. The reason this sounds bad is because you mixed the 2 up
Anyone who knows anything about mixing and mastering knows this is dumb as fuck. Listen to the bottom end, you can't even discern a single note for the first part where wings1&2 are playing simultaneously. As @MadAnthonyL said, it diminishes both.
Mm... This is chaos. It doesn't sound good. This is not a "hidden track." This is the result of someone with far too much time on their hands looking for... I don't know what. But what I just heard was never meant to be heard.
There are very few artists for me that hit what I call the "paradox nerve". You know the feeling. It's when you come across a piece of work so genius that it reveals itself to be contradictory in every way: foreign yet familiar, gorgeous yet haunting, human yet divine. Hell, the thing is wholly paradoxical because it is fundamentally contradictory, yet it makes sense.
Tool compares to only one other American rock band in respect to time signature and creativity used with it. The Grateful Dead. The Dead used all sorts of weird time signatures and are the predecessors of Tool. It's not always about genre, sometimes it's about style. If you don't agree, well, sorry.
@jojjo223 thats a good one man sum times i think so but thats funny you put it that whay, but i think for me pink floyd will but me that further in to the insanes with the meddle album playing, but yet agen both bands are redifineing creavniss in ther own ways. but i got to say this i think if pink floyd was still making music today, and they got with tool by making a supper band. know that would be a trip to even hear them play ther music would be like a simfuny from the hevanes =-)
the whole band has to be bomb ten fold.dream theater that whole band sucks ten fold i dont care what it sounds like if you aint coming around full circle, your throwing people for a half loop just by making your shitty cd.i love all music far and wide and become more and more open minded about it everyday dt blows more cock than a french hooker on a friday night compared to tool.final there is no comparing sorry
i cant believe somebody compared tool to an at least twenty year old mans adolescent thoughts.this secret track thing is just a matter of similarity in overall feel of these songs and the truly spiritual message they carry.it is purely coincidence that they intertwine.im not an asshole and i respect peoples ideas but you crossed the line dream theater is a shitty piece of shit i hope the words you typed were a joke.otherwise its scary to know your out there.
I am sorry all this shit about secret tracks when u mix 2 songs together is complete bullshit. Yes I hear that it does flow somewhat well, but its obvious that some parts just go off rhythm, and if you are a musician like me you will see it also. If not, then you will think this is cool. And it is somewhat cool, but this is not some secret track, this is just 2 songs with similar drum patterns and melodies.
@scrubbycritter This song "10,000 days" does in fact exist.
Unfortunately this fool got the two songs in a wrong order.
This was the lead singers eulogy to his dead wife.
So he made 1 song, but his most masterful creation and then split it in various ways to make the song unacessable but by those who actually care to hear it.
You can find the actual by typing in tool 10,000 days.
@bravojr she was paralyzed when Maynard was 11, and he had an abusive step father, that's what i believe the song Jimmy is about, at least on some level.
Tool: The only band with the amazing ability to write really long songs that are completely captivating to listen to from beginning to end without becoming bored along the way.
And with such perfect precision and attention and effort to make a song out of 3 of their songs played at the same time rather than how some other bands have similar things with their songs played at different times.
@TheCheatingBastard i dont know i find Dream Theater, symphony x, mars volta, pink floyd, rush also equally entertaining and they right even longer songs than tool , but ya i love tool!!!
@abhimuscat When I saw that guys comment Dream Theater was the first thing that popped in my head I like tool but DT is my favorite band their musicianship is lightyears ahead of tool.....anyone who's never heard of them listen to "Endless Sacrifice"
@gravitybongo As you said, DT is YOUR favorite band. Saying their musicianship is lightyears ahead of Tool is a little silly. You are obviously biased and likely unqualified to make such a claim. They may be superior in your opinion. I checked out DT's "Endless Sacrifice" on your recommendation in hopes of finding another group I loved. I found their lyrics trite and their music sounded like noise to me. This is only my opinion. I'm sure it's wonderful entertainment for some.
@TiqToqsCloqtower Well I've been taking classical guitar lessons my whole life and teach guitar, but I don't need to be "qualified" to have an opinion.....and yes everything I said was simply my opinion I wasn't trying to write it in stone that DT is better than tool......Try "lines in the sand guitar solo" "this dying soul" or "hollow years live at budokan" I think tool has a better singer so those are some things that don't focus on the singing so much.
@gravitybongo i wont say they are light years ahead of tool, I agree DT members are more virtuostic in nature but Tool's musicianship is nothing to be laughed at either, if anything I would say Tool have a more unique and distinct sound than DT, the moment a song starts u can immediately say whether its Tool or not, however to recognize DT's style u have to get to the solo sections where they play like 19823728392 notes per second :D both are equally good though i like DT more
@abhimuscat Yeah I agree tool do sound more "distinct" some bands like tool and NIN you can tell its them the second the song comes on, and I think maynard is a much better singer than james labrie and tools bassist is better than john myung, but still Petrucci Rudess and Portnoy were perfect together and hopefully the new drummer will mesh well, but those three did it all from metal to soft to classical you name it, their live shit is just insane to watch.
@gravitybongo yeah ur right, however I have to disagree that tool's bassy or maynard are better, John myung has been voted as THE greatest bassist of all time and he is even more skilled than JP if thats possible. Labrie has come under a lot of criticism mainly because he is aging and his voice is not what it used to be, however before passing him off as a poor singer, i suggest u check out his older stuff, noone..I mean noone could stand up to him when he was in his prime,
@abhimuscat John Myung's a fantastic bassist don't get me wrong he just doesn't add any wow factor to their music for me, but yea technique wise he's definitely one of the best. And yea alot of labries problems are because of age but I just wish DT had someone with more of an aggressive rock n roll voice as opposed to a more "beautiful" type of voice like labries, even though it works perfectly on some songs, on others I'd like to have more bite.
@gravitybongo musicianship is light-year ahead of tool then why do members keep leaving? tool have had one change and it completed them as a band. Labrie is a terrible singer and maynard is one of the most talented artists in the public domain, and yea pretrucci can play a million notes a second, but he does not know how to build atmosphere, tool are far superior, they create multi-textured vivid technicolor images in the soul. DT are virtuoso to pretension, sheer musical wankery.
@B1GGB0SSrevolution I meant musicianship in a technical sense, and noone left the old keyboardist got kicked out for being a flake, and mike portnoy took a break and asked to come back but they had already found another drummer. Anyways the rest is just a difference of opinion.
@gravitybongo i know sorry, i do respect them as musicians, just not my thing. why do you say their keyboardist is a flake? out of all their side projects chroma key is the only one i really connect with, and OSI in fact. portnoy seems the worst, to leave dt and join avenged sevenfold? WTF! opinions are opinions but god damn avenged suck balls, at least dt had a sound, avenged are so derivative, its a shame mike joined them.
@B1GGB0SSrevolution Yeah I agree I'm not a big A7X fan but I think that song "chapter four" is pretty cool....and I wasn't saying I thought the old keyboardist was a flake but that's what Petrucci or Portnoy said in an interview i saw I don't remember which one said it, but they said they had to kick him out "Derek Sherinian" I think was his name because he wasn't as good as they originally thought and he wasn't practicing with them much.
I'm sorry, I hate to disprove you, but Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd is just as entrancing (to me at least). It's almost like a distant ancestor to this song.
@TheCheatingBastard Tool is awesome! but you should listen to Post-rock. things like Godspeed you! black emperor and Explosions in the Sky make perfect long songs too!
@TheCheatingBastard Agreed. When I listen to any of their songs, let's say Lateralus, I hear it get to the breakdown and I'm just thinking, "Woah! It's been 7 minutes? Man, got to put this on repeat"
Tool is my favorite band. I also agree that Tool would want us too look deeper into the music. I have, and can honestly say that I've learned from them. They make you think, and attempt to influence us to transcend to a higher level of understanding. Seeing how some of you are quick to judge and insult me for simply giving an opinion, only goes to show that you have a lot further to go. Keep on listening. You'll get there.
These aren't meant to be played simultaneously, they're meant to be played back to back, hence Pt. 1, Pt. 2. Playing them simultaneously only makes them sound like shit.. People have way too much time on their hands.
seperate, catergorise, isolate, diuide, outcast, discriminate, inuade, destroy, rape, steal, murder, laugh, cry, die. we haue been swallowing this shit for too long!some say life is too short. i say what are you doing right now.you best be listening to "][" [{}] [{}] []_
i think your on the right track- like parabol and parabola. never meant to be played over the top of each other. one sets the mood and gets the listener truely focused on the lyrics while the harder music of the second part releases the emotion of the song.
musical storytelling at its finest but not one overproduced song i dont think
ive just started to get into tool, and with the right exploration of their stuff they might just slip into the 2nd place slot for my favourite artists
This pair syncs up a little too well, in my opinion. Unless Tool is losing their touch, devolving into the same exact progressions, tempo, and flow, I'd have to wonder just how much of a coincidence this really is.
@iwillneverpostavideo Thing is, that's exactly the discussion. Some argue it's not a hidden track, but a simple pair of songs which match up. I'm of the opinion it's intentional. Others are not. =p
@iwillneverpostavideo Somehow writing 'thing is' at the start made me sound like an arse, rereading your post. Pardon any abrasiveness I seem to have. There is none intended. >.>
it's fine, no harm done. but when i first heard about this, it was sppoken about as if it were totally intentional. i think they even cited an interview maynard gave about it but i can't remember. it's from a cracked.com article so i should probably take it with a grain of salt
I love tool....search: mathematical proof of a creative intelligence....then search: The Dawn of Intelligence by Kerry Craig Walker....and be ready for something different....be ready to go to the unknown....
@gauchebag Thanks for the comment dude...These are the kinds of comments I really like...question everything and fuck you, I not going to do what you told me!!!
@gauchebag Yeah; that really was uncalled for. I seriously have absolutely no clue what you're calling the guy on. Pointless to piss and moan when there's no cause.
i wouldent be surprised if it was the same with some of lateralus considering i have riped the version with the clear film art book and the entire art book is about layers
"So called..." I agree. While two different acts to the same theme, 10000 days part one and two have totally different moods and aims. These songs 'syncing up' is just a coincidence, in the fact that between tempo and the rest of it, they almost fit. Go figure, considering all of Tools albums run with similar moods, feelings, etc - not quite concept albums, but similar enough that fans think they sync up for a supersong. I think this is just more garbled, fan-created mystique, that's all.
this isnt music ....its birth life conception is fading death..its transcending out of body experience ...a drug without without comsuption...numbness thats touch you...deatomizing the soul....the begining the ending....the joY that aches ...pain that smooths you into a sleep aof awakeness ...bringing the consciesness out...holding .still traveling the furtest distance
@coitinsforyourocky It's sad that Metallica as a band have to try and out-do Lars Ulrich's douchebaggery with awesomeness, instead of being completely awesome.
@ronczeks69 Oh wow, really, you don't know Otep? I suggest you look her up & check out her music, she's AMAZING & very empowering. Try 'Ghostflowers' that was MY 1st Otep song, I'm still a 'new' fan of her myself, I only discovered her back in November 2010.
This will piss someone off but I'm kind of getting sick of how pretentious tool is getting. The music is still amazing but Maynard is such an asshole now. He's constantly like DUDE THEY JUST DON'T GET IT. He still is a better musician than I will ever be though :[.

@TheCheatingBastard
I'm sorry, I hate to disprove you, but Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd is just as entrancing (to me at least). It's almost like a distant ancestor to this song.

@5T0N3R420 Personally I'd add Echoes too. That song is just too short ;).

People have way too much time on their hands.
knixon1972 9 months ago
@knixon1972 its two combined then flipped combined with another.
ChaosCookieMonster 8 months ago
@knixon1972 lateralus wasnt meant to be played in the order: 6,7,5,8,4,9,13,1,12,2,11,3,10.
and yet... it fits better that way..
hmmm its almost as if TOOL WANTS YOU TO LOOK DEEPER INTO SOMETHING RATHER THAN ACCEPTING IT AS IT IS AT FACE VALUE.
that doesnt sound like tool.
people like that would want you to think for yourself and develop your mind.
plus they would probably have a satanic sounding song that was really a cookie recipe to give you a hint as to not accept things at face value.
madeofhatred 8 months ago
@knixon1972 i mean its not tool has hidden music in their albums at all.
no disposition being reflected
no gaping lotus experience.
nothing.
clearly tool is here for mind-numbing, thoughtless entertainment.
after all.. that is what the internet is for is it not?
but in all seriousness..
you are fucking retarded.

@FreeLanceWarrior
i think your on the right track- like parabol and parabola. never meant to be played over the top of each other. one sets the mood and gets the listener truely focused on the lyrics while the harder music of the second part releases the emotion of the song.
musical storytelling at its finest but not one overproduced song i dont think

one of the best songs ever...why the fuck is it hidden!!??
skudstorm44 10 months ago
This pair syncs up a little too well, in my opinion. Unless Tool is losing their touch, devolving into the same exact progressions, tempo, and flow, I'd have to wonder just how much of a coincidence this really is.
meme1230321 10 months ago
@meme1230321
the thing is, it's not a coincidence XD it's a hidden track
iwillneverpostavideo 10 months ago
@iwillneverpostavideo Thing is, that's exactly the discussion. Some argue it's not a hidden track, but a simple pair of songs which match up. I'm of the opinion it's intentional. Others are not. =p
meme1230321 10 months ago
@iwillneverpostavideo Somehow writing 'thing is' at the start made me sound like an arse, rereading your post. Pardon any abrasiveness I seem to have. There is none intended. >.>
meme1230321 10 months ago
@meme1230321
it's fine, no harm done. but when i first heard about this, it was sppoken about as if it were totally intentional. i think they even cited an interview maynard gave about it but i can't remember. it's from a cracked.com article so i should probably take it with a grain of salt

@gauchebag Yeah; that really was uncalled for. I seriously have absolutely no clue what you're calling the guy on. Pointless to piss and moan when there's no cause.
meme1230321 10 months ago
i wouldent be surprised if it was the same with some of lateralus considering i have riped the version with the clear film art book and the entire art book is about layers
LordOfMedusa 11 months ago
"So called..." I agree. While two different acts to the same theme, 10000 days part one and two have totally different moods and aims. These songs 'syncing up' is just a coincidence, in the fact that between tempo and the rest of it, they almost fit. Go figure, considering all of Tools albums run with similar moods, feelings, etc - not quite concept albums, but similar enough that fans think they sync up for a supersong. I think this is just more garbled, fan-created mystique, that's all.

Tool is such a great band, that other bands almost PALE in comparison, and I like quite a few good bands, Metallica, SOAD, Otep, to name a few.
coitinsforyourocky 1 year ago 2
@coitinsforyourocky It's sad that Metallica as a band have to try and out-do Lars Ulrich's douchebaggery with awesomeness, instead of being completely awesome.
Bunji2k6 1 year ago
@coitinsforyourocky what's Otep? Because I have similar music taste like you and maybe I would like it too.

@ronczeks69 Otep is a good really hard band with a chick singer
DhruvaMaharaja 11 months ago
@ronczeks69 Oh wow, really, you don't know Otep? I suggest you look her up & check out her music, she's AMAZING & very empowering. Try 'Ghostflowers' that was MY 1st Otep song, I'm still a 'new' fan of her myself, I only discovered her back in November 2010.
