@REIworker Me too. I got lost in one when I was about 4. I got scared and hid behind a clothes rack. Luckily some nice supermarket lady found me and made an announcement over the tannoy for my Mum to come get me.
One of my favorite songs of all time among other such as Gary Numan - Stormtrooper In Drag, The Human League - Blind Youth, and David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust.
This song gets stuck in my head so does spanish bombs. Now that I think about it they have a bunch of songs that if I hear them they are stuck in my head for at least a day.
I'm sorry, don't be offended by my lack of understanding (some people get like that), I understand the song is about loneliness, but can someone explain why to me?
Great song from a brilliant album. My big brother bought me the album for my birthday (must be 30 years ago now at least !!). Still in its plastic wrapping, never been opened. (Only because my sister bought me it too ! haha - I opened the one she bought me !!). The vinyl is wearing thin now !!. Great band with some brilliant songs.
won't find a musical gem like this on MTV...and for all intents and purposes, i'm going to spell it out. MUSIC television. not reality shows, not degenerate shows like skins, not even shows about in the closet guidos and slutty guidettes. M-U-S-I-C! anyway, great song lol
DAMN STRAIGHT, could not agree more. MTV blows donkey d1ck. I do not even know why it is called MTV, just a bunch of realityy shows portraying americans as a bunch of douchey RUBES. Just know there are some still good yanks left that appreciate good music and are greatful for great rock n roll musicians like the clash, strummer, pistols, stone roses, oasis, zeppelin, trex, etc. Thanks as always to the brits for leading the way years ahead of the time with awesome music.
@0624ize Oh relax. You're MTV hatred is nothing special; aside from angsty teen girls I don't know anyone who sticks up for MTV anyway.
Most of those bands you listed are overplayed and boring anyways. American music is just as good as British, plus American rap blows British rap out of the water
I have read that this the favorite of some listeners, purchased the album when it first came out I was a big Clash fan, I always kind of partial to this song though I like others too but this one I always would return to and then I have seen at least two say this is their favorite of the double Sandinista issue I feel vindicated I knew this was a way Coooool Song. yeah and I have been lost in many a supermarket I hate to shop have to eat so down the aisles I wander lost in the super market
This song is amazing!! I remember wandering around TESCO one day listening to my i-pod and I stopped to talk to my friend. When I left, I discovered my family had disappeared and I searched the whole shop getting really panicked and what song should come onto my I-POd but this!! it was quite ironic really!! And it turns out my mum and brother had walked away home without me, thinking that I'd already gone home!!
@handsomedevil98 Yes. But he didn't write it. Strummer wrote this from the point of view of Mick and then gave him the song to sing. Joe was such a great songwriter.
@perrydear God is lucky to have Joe there with him. Can you imagine what it's like there with Joe Strummer, Johnny Cash, and Bob Marley in the same place at the same time.
Favourite Clash song ever, I think. This is never going to leave my mind. It leaves a beautiful impression of a very usual loneliness. It's good to stop and realize just how common it is.
@2d165 They're not mutually exclusive. The consumerism you allude to can lead to alienation and loneliness for a lot of us, or at least be a significant contributing factor. My roundabout way of saying I think you and Lariekoekje are both right, actually.
@2d165 The analogy is about consumerism, but it's such an extremely brilliant analogy. There's a lot more there than just what Joe Strummer wrote about.
