Dan's loving tribute to his " Dear Papa" is very precious , and truly delightful. I did my very best to sing along with the maestro. It made me feel elated and very happy indeed. randyandy1960 - my friend, if you are able to have children, grandchildren, or any child that the Almighty God puts in your life... I feel that that child will be one of the luckiest children that ever walked the face of the earth. May the Lord Jesus lead your heart. And may that child one day feel so lucky and blessed to have you.
my grandpa was buried on febuary 24th 2006 last year on the anniversary of his death instead of crying all night i was smiling because i know he's in a better place where he can breath well and he's not on a lot of medicine. i just wish i could tell him how much i actually love him.the worst part is febuary 25th is my cousins birthday so i can't even imagine how hard i is on him.

When I discovered my dad was not by biological father, this song came out. He knew I knew, but we never talked about it. I changed a few lyrics to fit us, but I taped the song for his birthday and left it for him before I went on the road in a show. It was my way of saying, "You're my dad, blood or not." My mother described him as "devastatingly happy." Thank you Dan Fogelberg for this song and so much more.
@stonegrooved Thanks for stating that it is your opinion about Dan's level of talent - I can appreciate your statement even though I don't agree with it. I think Dan was more than "marginally" talented - are you familiar with some of his earlier works? Just curious - you list some greats here, though!
My dad and Dan where close friends and I will never forget how heartbroken my dad was when he heard that Dan had passed away. Thank you for this song I cant wait to meet you in heaven! Also, thank you dad for bringing Dans music into my life, I Love you!!!
I hope that my soon to be 13 yr old grandson who pretty much has no dad will one day be able to listen to this song and hear parts of it that relate to he and I.
I didn't realize how angelic this man's offering to mankind was. IF God takes away from us for His own pleasure as well as our confusion, Dan is with Him. God just wants to see and hear him live...

Love this song. Everytime I heard it, it would remind me of my own dad who passed in 73. Still reminds me of him, especially the part of, a thundering velvet hand. He was also a quiet man who played music and never yelled but when he spoke you listened. It was respect which I think is lacking in families very much today. Very beautiful song.

What a beautiful way to say you love your father. This song always makes me cry, never having had that closeness with my own father. This song is so simple, but pure, and you can just feel the love he has for the man that raised him. "Anyone can make a kid, it takes a real man to raise one, and teach him or her all they need to know to be decent human beings. Obviously this man was one of those quiet heroes that take the time to be a man and a father. God Bless Dan F. and his father. :)

born in 73 here! Ask of my opinion on this classic & I'll sum this song up in three words beginning with the Letter M..... Monumental, Memorable, & Meaningful.
This song is just pure beauty for the soul of all of us who have dad's that we love so much. My dad passed away in 2003 and not a day goes by that I dont look back and remember all the special times we shared. My dad was a drug addict and disappeared from my life when I was 14. I never heard from him again . Then I got the call from a friend who told me he read that he passed away that day in 2003. I used to be so angry that he left but time is wasted on anger. I love you Pop. R.I.P. Miss you♥♥
my mother and my brother love this song....even though my mom pass away back in 1998 she love this song so much and it make me happy hear it ...cause it means alot to me.....
I really dont know why there is a link to A SCREAMO band when this is oldies. I did not come to this amazing song to click a link to a crappy genre. No offense, but that is what it is. this song is amazing.
truly one of the best singer-songwriters... shame he never made it as big as James Taylor and Jackson Browne, he was equally talented (and I do enjoy both of them very much)
My father, who taught me how to play guitar, died in'02. His blood does run through my instrument. I can't hear or play this song without tearing up. Dad AND Dan,Miss you both.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
I really miss the girls. They were my friends and going to that concert with them was one of the best memories they ever gave me and I hope they feel the same these many years later. I hope they are all doing OK. Someday Maybe, I will look them up. Tina, Theresa, Karen, Rosanna; thanks for the memories, your friend, Danno.
So it turned out that Theresa told me to go East instead of West but we finally got back to Mansfield about 8AM just in time for classes. And you know what? I still have the concert Tee I bought that night 29 years ago and I wear it on occasion, though it is slightly out of style but I don’t give a damn.
So I drove and drove eventually coming to a sign at a bridge that said “Delaware Water Gap”. I crossed the bridge, pulled over, woke everybody up and said, “Are we in New Jersey? I just saw a sign that said ‘Delaware Water Gap’”. All the girls groaned and Tina said, “Danno, you went the wrong way!” I replied, “I just went the way Theresa told me to go, but this is cool though, I have never been to New Jersey before”. They actually all laughed at that comment. This is at 4AM by the way.
I saw Dan Fogelberg at the Spectrum back in the Fall of '81. I went with Tina, Theresa, Karen and Rosanna; four babes and me the only guy all the way from Mansfield State College in Mansfield, PA to Philly. After the concert (it was great) we drove right back to MSC. I will never forget at 3AM when we got fuel and the girls were too tired to drive so I said I would drive and I asked which way to go on the highway Teresa pointed, said drowsily “that way” and fell asleep with everyone else.
My grandfather died 1 year ago and every time I here this song i cry my eyes out we played this at his funeral. When he died I was right there next to him and saw the pain in his eyes and hate myself for not cherishing every moment I had with him. He died of cancer. I always wonder if God is really up there because why would he put something on the earth that kills. RIP Kenneth Whittington
My parents divorced when I was barely 3 yrs old. I was finally reunited with my Dad, but he died just as I was actually getting to know him. He could play by 'ear', and I was always so amazed how he could play almost any musical instrument ! He has been gone a long time now, and I'll miss him forever. Rest In Peace Daddy.
PEACE AGAINST GOD.. ONLY SAFE ARE , PLACE OF SILENCE ATOP THE ROCKEY MOUNTAIN S THE SOLDIER'S REUNION OUR STALK TO THE CHURCH THE OLD BANDIT DIED NOW MY FIRE WILL GAUGE OUR LEADER OF THE BAND.. ONLY FALCONS SOUR IN HIS LAND, FOR A FORSAKEN WAR.
PEACE AGAINST GOD.. ONLY SAFE ARE , PLACE OF SILENCE ATOP THE ROCKEY MOUNTAIN S THE SOLDIER'S REUNION OUR STALK TO THE CHURCH THE OLD BANDIT DIED NOW MY FIRE WELL TO THE LEADER OF THE BAND.. ONLY FALCONS SOUR IN HIS LAND, FOR A FORSAKEN WAR.
Leader of the Band refers to Crazy Wolf, leader of the Pima band of Indians who lived near what is today Tucscon, Arizona. He hated Whites, who he called "roundeyes, palefaces and devil turds". Crazy Wolf died in Detroit, on his job sweeping the factory flor for the Ford Co. He gave up fighting the White man manty yrs before. He died a sad, broken-backed man
This song really gets me going. It even makes me shed tears. You know that the artist had done his job when he touches the lives of millions with his lyrics.
My grandfather passed away almost 2 weeks ago and this is the song that played at his funeral during a picture slideshow my cousins made for him. It was the perfect song and we were all crying our eyes out.
@CarolAnnSD - I'm sorry about your dad. I lost my dad three years ago this month. I have this song playing on a tribute page I made for him. Making the page has helped me. God Bless.
@CarolAnnSD - I'm sorry about your dad. I lost my dad three years ago this month. I have this song playing on a tribute page I made for him. Making the page has helped me. God Bless.
I was 6 when this song hit the air. It is the first song I remember loving. I remember waiting for it to get played on the little radio I kept under my pillow or come on on the car radio in the old Carolla. It helped me though some tough times then and still makes me tear up.
@CarolAnnSD : There are no words when something of this magnitude occurs in your life. All I can say is I know where you are, and I can say that it does get easier, but only with time. You NEVER get over it, but you learn how to live with the loss. I am so desperately sorry for your loss. God Bless you and your family in your time of Grief.
@CarolAnnSD Lord have mercy........I am sorry for your loss......my parents are getting older and I worry about that in the back of my mind all the time. I'm sorry for your loss, truly.
T_T...
Usually I hate old songs.. But this one really got to my heart...
Touches my feelings so much.. I can't believe that I cried the first time I heard this song....
Reminds me so much of the hardships my parents did for me....

R.I.P. Miss you♥♥

ErieBoy62 1 year ago
So it turned out that Theresa told me to go East instead of West but we finally got back to Mansfield about 8AM just in time for classes. And you know what? I still have the concert Tee I bought that night 29 years ago and I wear it on occasion, though it is slightly out of style but I don’t give a damn.
ErieBoy62 1 year ago
