It's all Les Paul! He practically created the system of overdubbing and mutli-track recording (he built the first eight-track multi-track recording systemm).
Those sure took a while to "warm up" before you could play records. I am afraid to turn my old hi-fi on today as most of the tubes it uses are British and are so obsolete that replacements just do not exist anymore.
