I'm not sure if Green Day uses auto tune, I know they used back tacking back in the American Idiot era but then quit that.. But it really doesn't matter all slight auto tune does is smooths out the your voice and keeps it in pitch, I believe Metallica and other well known bands do its sooo. Its no big deal

I´m the biggest Green Day fan on earth (was even taken on stage, saw a soundcheck and everything), but I also feel sorry to claim that there´s definitely autotune. I compared several songs of the Awesome as Fuck CD with live videos of these shows on Youtube and there are differences of Billie´s voice. Firstly I didn´t believe that too, but it´s sadly proven. It´s an awesome album anyways.

But you can actually hear clear differences. I worked with Autotune, decabuddy and other vocal vst´s and I got a little clue how this stuff sounds when you use it correctly. You can clearly hear Autotune at 00:07 and 00:10 and as I said before, I feel also sorry for that.

Well, that´s your opinion, I´ve got my opinion. So if they use special effects on the mic, WHAT effect shall this be? A "let it sound unnatural"-effect? I´m pretty sure that they don´t use any effects except an equalizer, compressor, sometimes reverb and delay (Boulevard of Broken Dreams).

Maybe you mean the effect which you can clearly hear during the intro of the studio version (and live-version at the American Idiot tour ... at 21st CB tour didn´t use it, there was acoustic guitar only)? It sound´s like a tremolo, but it´s actually a so-called "Slicer" - it slices the sound in a pattern to make it sound "stucking". But for the vocals they actually do only use Equalizer, Reverb and Delay (you can clearly hear it at this "Aha..aha..aha" parts.
