Hey Bro, m facing sm problem in installation process of zune. Whenever i start installation, it gives error tht, "can't find the media for installation package 'Windows Media Format SDK'. It might be incomplete or corrupt.

Hey bro it When i plug in my zune, it says it might not work properly. When i bring up the zune hompage, it tells me to download the latest version of zune. So i go there and it downloaded the same zune I already have. Also when i try to sync music onto it, it only says,"connect a zune device." Even though i just plugged mine in.
What am i doing wrong? If you could help me out it would be much appreciated.
Do a search for Zune in Google and you'll find the official Zune Web site. Download the software from there - that's the what the sticker on the front of your Zune said if you bought it new...

I hear complaints about Zune from people who prefer that approach. I find content management extremely simple with the Zune software.

The Zune uses the Zune Marketplace for music. As for Limewire, I do this crazy thing called BUYING my music to support the musicians I enjoy listening to. Maybe you've heard of that?

You've gone into SETTINGS > DISPLAY and turned the Screen Graphics all the way down to BASIC? If that does't work, then you should try to update your video card driver. And if THAT doesn't work, then I'd say your computer is just too old to work with this software...time for an upgrade. :-)

If you can't get Windows Update to work, you have a pretty serious problem. You can try uninstalling the Zune software then looking for a program called Unzoone, but the Windows Update problem is the real issue.
I talk about that in another one of my Zune videos: basically, the Zune software will only "see" WMV and MPEG4 files. If your videos are in Divx/AVI format, it won't see them. There's no solution for this other than to transcode them yourself.
oh yea...any other device works fine in any of the usb ports so i don't think its the ports cuz i put a printer in one the the internet connection in one,zune in one and the mouse in the last one...you think the next version of the software it would work?

Uninstall the Zune software. Reboot. Run Windows Update and install any recommended patches. Google for a program called UnZoone. Run it, then reboot. Go to Zune (dot) net and grab the latest version of the Zune software, and install it...and THEN connect your Zune. See if that works.

You mean the music that comes with it? Yes, that's free. Or do you mean music you download from the Zune Marketplace? You have to pay for that, just like iTunes - unless you have a Zune Pass, in which case it's not free, it's $15/month. Basically you need to provide me with more information...

I'm having the same problem, I installed the zune software on my comp, and then I plug my zune into my comp, but it keeps having that beeping noise whenever you plug something in, and then remove it. and it keeps saying the device is not recognized.
Try a different USB port, try bypassing the USB hub (if you're using one). Might be your Zune cable, might be your computer. Try a different computer to see.

Are you saying the Zune software won't update itself? Then go to the Zune Web site, find the download link, and download it - there's nothing special about it, it's just a download like any other.

When it says "You must restart your computer after setup" after you installed the program, it does nothing. I did that crap like 100 times and nothing happened. It just keeps popping up with the same thing =/ Can anybody help?

The Zune software relies on some software components to work, and it sounds like your system is screwed up - and it can't access Windows Update to get what it needs. On the 16th of September, tomorrow, the 3.0 software is released - install that and see if it works.
The 3.0 software will be released tomorrow (September 16th), so for now just uninstall any version of the Zune software. In fact, search for Unzoone and run that, reboot, then wait for the 3.0 release. It's supposed to fix a bunch of install problems.
No, you can't drag and drop onto the Zune - you need to use the Zune software. There is a hack that you can apply to your PC that enables drag and drop, but I think using the Zune software is better.

Can you put your own downloaded mp3 files onto it without having to move them over to zune or can you sync it with wmp?. Also will it accept multiple formats for video?.
There are some hacks you can use to make the Zune show up as a hard drive, but you have to hack each computer you connect it to. You can also sync it using WMP, but that also requires a hack. The best experience is definitely going to using the Zune software though - why not give it a try?
As for the video formats, it will accept WMV and h.264/MPEG4. No Divx, Xvid, or anything else.

You've got some sort of problem that likely goes beyond the Zune software, because the Zune software is really stable. Could be a virus, spyware, or just a crusty and unstable Windows install. Impossible to say. You could try searching for a program called UnZoon, running it, rebooting, then trying again.
After I installed the zune software, it opened up the zune system. The problem I am having is that I can't sync the zune. Whenever I plug the zune into my computer nothing happens. And the zune software program doesn't have any options to look for the zune.

Could be a bad cable, could be a defective Zune. Could be defective USB ports on your computer. It could be a lot of things - have you tried connecting the Zune to a different computer? That's one way to isolate whether it's your Zune/cable or the computer itself.

Something's screwed up with your system then. Try rebooting, and after a reboot, exit from all your applications - including shutting down your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. It sounds like something on your system is stopping the program from loading. You can also try downloading and running CCleaner to clean up your temporary files - there might be something screwing up the install.
Oh you meant to turn it off then back on? Ok thanks. I thought you meant the rebooting as in Delete everything in the computer except the Normal Windows Files.

Unfortunately there's something wrong with your computer that's beyond the scope of the Zune software. All I can suggest is to try again when a new version of the software comes out and maybe it will install for you...
I just bought my zune last night and you need windows service pack (3)to get a complete proper install. I did it and it restarted my computer ( which is normal) and everything worked great. Also make sure you make zune check for an update, mine was already there, but chekc anyway.

I recently bought the Zune 80GB and downloaded the software straight from their website. Everything actually went smoothly for me, I don't know why this guy was having these crazy errors. Probably because he already had the software installed and re-installation created those errors. It could also be his Vista, I think Zune works well with XP or previous windows.

If it shows up on the Zune software, I don't understand why it wouldn't show up on the Zune. Are you removing the song from your Zune then re-adding it after having added the album art?
The CD was just a burned copy of the software - they had to give me a physical copy of the software because the software wasn't available to the public yet.
Well I think I need the CD cause I have a window home XP and when I download the Zune software from the site the installing works but I can't see the software cause it's really really really really Glitching. And that's alot of really.

No, AVI files are not currently supported - which is unfortunate, because that means no transcoding of Divx, etc.

Call Zune tech support, or re-install Windows. It might even be a defective USB port - have you tried all of them on your computer?

Yes, you can use any songs that you have on your computer as long as they're in MP3, WMA, or AAC (non-DRM'd) format.

You mean the music that comes with it? Yes, that's free. Or do you mean music you download from the Zune Marketplace? You have to pay for that, just like iTunes - unless you have a Zune Pass, in which case it's not free, it's $15/month. Basically you need to provide me with more information...

Uninstall the Zune software, search for a program online called UnZoone, run that, reboot, then go and install the newest version of the Zune software and see if that helps...

when you got that error message, i think it was just because you closed the program abruptly or something because my computer does that too when i close things, i don't think the program crashed

Yes, it works with XP MCE 2005. You can download the desktop software for free before you get the Zune. It's on the official Zune Web site.

I'm having the same problem, I installed the zune software on my comp, and then I plug my zune into my comp, but it keeps having that beeping noise whenever you plug something in, and then remove it. and it keeps saying the device is not recognized.

Try a different USB port, try bypassing the USB hub (if you're using one). Might be your Zune cable, might be your computer. Try a different computer to see.

I just got a 8gb zune and i went to the zune site to make a profile and download the software but after i was done making my profile i clicked the link to download the 3.0 software and it brings me to a page that says it cant find the server/link. Do you know why that is happening

Are you saying the Zune software won't update itself? Then go to the Zune Web site, find the download link, and download it - there's nothing special about it, it's just a download like any other.

My name is Jason, but you're welcome. ;-) You're talking about the Zune cards, right? You can only listen to their music if you have a Zune Pass account, or if the music they're listening to is already a part of your collection. It's not a way to get free music. :-)

My zune setup txtbox says "Can't Access Microsoft Update.... The service can't be started either because it is disabled or because there is no enabled devices associated with it" but i do have the zune in the usb

The Zune software relies on some software components to work, and it sounds like your system is screwed up - and it can't access Windows Update to get what it needs. On the 16th of September, tomorrow, the 3.0 software is released - install that and see if it works.

The 3.0 software will be released tomorrow (September 16th), so for now just uninstall any version of the Zune software. In fact, search for Unzoone and run that, reboot, then wait for the 3.0 release. It's supposed to fix a bunch of install problems.

No, you can't drag and drop onto the Zune - you need to use the Zune software. There is a hack that you can apply to your PC that enables drag and drop, but I think using the Zune software is better.

Can you put your own downloaded mp3 files onto it without having to move them over to zune or can you sync it with wmp?. Also will it accept multiple formats for video?.

There are some hacks you can use to make the Zune show up as a hard drive, but you have to hack each computer you connect it to. You can also sync it using WMP, but that also requires a hack. The best experience is definitely going to using the Zune software though - why not give it a try?
As for the video formats, it will accept WMV and h.264/MPEG4. No Divx, Xvid, or anything else.

There is a way to sync the Zune with WMP, but it requires a hack - you'll have to search for it.

You've got some sort of problem that likely goes beyond the Zune software, because the Zune software is really stable. Could be a virus, spyware, or just a crusty and unstable Windows install. Impossible to say. You could try searching for a program called UnZoon, running it, rebooting, then trying again.

After I installed the zune software, it opened up the zune system. The problem I am having is that I can't sync the zune. Whenever I plug the zune into my computer nothing happens. And the zune software program doesn't have any options to look for the zune.

Are you using a USB hub? If so, connect the Zune directly to the PC. Try different USB ports.

im having the same problem... ive discovered that a lot of people have troubles syncing the zune. Im plugging the USB directly into the pc not using a hub or w.e that is. can you tell me what i might be doing wrong? ive tried all my usb ports and it always gives me the same result... if i cant get this right im returning it... i dont know why microsoft has to make things complicated.

Could be a bad cable, could be a defective Zune. Could be defective USB ports on your computer. It could be a lot of things - have you tried connecting the Zune to a different computer? That's one way to isolate whether it's your Zune/cable or the computer itself.

Something's screwed up with your system then. Try rebooting, and after a reboot, exit from all your applications - including shutting down your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. It sounds like something on your system is stopping the program from loading. You can also try downloading and running CCleaner to clean up your temporary files - there might be something screwing up the install.

Unfortunately there's something wrong with your computer that's beyond the scope of the Zune software. All I can suggest is to try again when a new version of the software comes out and maybe it will install for you...

I just bought my zune last night and you need windows service pack (3)to get a complete proper install. I did it and it restarted my computer ( which is normal) and everything worked great. Also make sure you make zune check for an update, mine was already there, but chekc anyway.

Leave it for a few minutes - it hangs sometimes at 99% but it does eventually finish. Start the installer then walk away for a bit. :-)

I recently bought the Zune 80GB and downloaded the software straight from their website. Everything actually went smoothly for me, I don't know why this guy was having these crazy errors. Probably because he already had the software installed and re-installation created those errors. It could also be his Vista, I think Zune works well with XP or previous windows.

Go to Zune dot net, download the latest version of the software, and try again. Or, if you can't get the software to even download in the first place, ask a friend who's good with computers. :-)

Will it work? Yes. Will you be able to buy Zune Marketplace tracks with points? No - not easily. Go to Zune Thoughts (dot) com and look for the featured article about being an international Zune user.

If it shows up on the Zune software, I don't understand why it wouldn't show up on the Zune. Are you removing the song from your Zune then re-adding it after having added the album art?

The CD was just a burned copy of the software - they had to give me a physical copy of the software because the software wasn't available to the public yet.

I have 2 PC's each with a different operating system XP and vista, can i go back and forth with no problems?
Also if i have an album and inside that folder i have a cover (jpeg), do i have to seperate the pic from the MP3? or will the zune sort it out automatically?
Can i physically drag and drop from and to the zune?

1) You should have no trouble synching your Zune with both Vista and XP, though I haven't tried that myself.
2) Regarding album art, the Zune software should take care of it, but you might need to associate the album art with the song/album.
