  • Most of my glasses are semi-rimless and I have had no problem with composite or CR-39 lenses. Even my semi-rimless sunglasses are 1.49 CR-39 and they have lasted for years.

  • @tujumaster One exception does not a rule make.

  • Actually, I have 20 exceptions, not just one. 20 pairs, almost all CR-39.

The problem with polycarb is the abbe value. I can't stand the chromatic aberration of polycarb lenses. I have switched to a mid index polycarb composite that does have a abbe value close to CR-39 and is just as durable as polycarb. But, generally speaking, I have never seen a CR-39 semi-rimless break or chip. I would never put them in rimless, however.

  • @tujumaster Well uh, YOU would be the exception I was talking about, not your glasses. But of course now you'll come back and claim you are really rough with your glasses and they still don't break...

  • Well, I won't pretend they won't break. I have never shattered a CR-39 but at the same time, I have never had an accident worthy of shattering a pair. I did accidentally pop a lens on my sunglasses and was able to pop the lens back into place with no chipping or visible cosmetic damage to the lens.

Again, I have never seen a CR-39 rimless break. As long as the edge is about 2.5 mm on a nylon, CR-39 should be fine.

  • Who makes that first pair you pointed out? The 'contemporary' frames that seem to have a blue color?
