It's like liking that 2nd movement so much, that you don't want to let the chords go. Like savouring them for a little longer. Like saying: "Mozart! I love you, you are a total genius!"
I do hope to user commenting about the Spartacus Love Theme is joking. I just recently re-watched Spartacus with my family, and we joked the entire time about that piece of music to the point that we were singing it around the house all night.
@MiloDC Sorry, Milo, but Nyman's piece is exquisitely-crafted, sophisticated, and contemporary, while your beloved 'Spartacus' theme is trite, dated, and schmaltzy to excess.
Nyman adds another dimension altogether to classical ; He opens some beautiful spiritual gateways to explore and ponder. It's uncanny how his arrangements work so well with Peter Greenaways' films. Thanks for posting all the vids Spirit of Solace.
By Christ, this is a superb piece of music. Gets me everytime. Reminds me of a previous love affair that, like all the best ones, ended in recrimination & sorrow. Outstanding, Mr Nyman...
this the piece trysting fields, if you look on the michael nyman soundtracks and cds, its exactly the same (infact for this live performance, they played back the recording for the video.) its trysting fields only not the whole suite of drowning by numbers.
this isn't the live recording because there bassist and the baritone saxophone are playing, but you can't hear them, plus there is a full string orchestra with the cellist and 2nd violinist, and the violin 1 sometimes misses out the vibato when the recording still has it. best song ever though!
Así empieza " DROwning by numbers", con este híbrido Mozart/Nyman maravilloso, que se aprecia mucho más si escuchas la sinfonia para violín y viola de Mozart!
this piece is aactually made of several motives from Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante (2nd movement), which is also featured in "Drowning by Numbers" (the last drowning). Nyman used/sort of "updated" Purcell for his soundtrack to "The Draughtman's Contract", very recommended, too.
