this song wasn't in donnie darko, even still it is classic 80's downer rock. It's not the cure it's modern english and the cure never covered it. The song at the start is the killing moon by echo and the bunnymen, not inxs. Best part of the sound track is under the milkyway by the church at the party at the end
The song was used in the movie Valley Girl which starred Nicholas Cage, classic 80's teen movie (without Molly Ringwald), funny movie and a huge hit when it was released 1983ish from memory. Donny Darko as a movie is in a class of its own though as is its soundtrack, the smurf conversation is a classic.

this song does not go with the themes in "donnie darko". this just sucks. "ill melt with you is a guy in love, jumping for joy, proclaiming his love..."donnie darko" is just not that lighthearted.
this smells like someone who's tryin to be deep :l
the song is going with donnie's relationship with Gretchen, in which case he actually did stop the world for her. don't try to find deep meanings in everything. you'll miss the point. besides its a good song and a good movie.
I am not sure what youre referring to here, whether it is someone else's post about another group or what, but ...
Modern English had this song first. It was a 'one hit wonder' in America. Its called "Melt with You". It was used in "Donnie Darko" which was an incredible movie. Glory
I was referring to Boricuachick29s comment about the cure covering this modern english original. btw this was my best friend in year 6's favorite song, and he sang it every break we got in 1986.
Some of the comments on the 5th page made me realize that Donnie is somewhat like Nny from JTHM. Except instead of him dying causing the world's end, his survival did it.
Best movie ever, i like this a lot, but the sound seems a bit too happy fr the movie. But still, great way it was put together and lyrics work. (Jake is the best actor ever aswell)
Ok, some of these people definitley need to watch the movie again due to a clear lack of understanding of what it's really about. You, however, made a very, very good video. I thought at first, what an odd choice but I got it at the end. Mildly depressing, but so was the movie. I cried at the end. Great combo!
why does he? to save his gf? to save frank? keep in mind by going back he leaves his sister to the child molestor. thus the jumping on the trampoline.
he goes back in time to tear the world apart, "just to see what would happen". then again you could say he goes into the future by avoiding death to see what would happen....
donny uses frank to go back in time using granma deaths theory of time travel and his perceptiion. donny cheats death originally by avoiding the plane engine which falls off the plane his mom is in. he goes back and dies.
noooo he did it to "rip the world apart, just to see what would happen". scene where he talks about why the kids vandalized old mans house but they didnt take the money.
its really hard to explain, and its really your interpretation of it. its abstract really. but the one thing i got from it is that he wanted to do something good for his community, geez i should've answered a long time ago its hard for me again to explain. he wanted to do something good, he knew he was boned wether he lived or died so he took the "route" that he would've taken had it not been for "Frank".

FANTASTIC soundtrack, great cast, an interesting concept, AND Patrick Swayze.
Not a bad film by any means, but grossly overrated. Not a classic, not even by a long shot. But it is worth a watch.

Totally agree... the film was "entertaining" to say the least.

He goes back because escaping death disrupts the spacetime-continuum, which will make the world collapse.
