  • This album hangs on my wall. Great stuff reminds me of high school and hanging out.

  • @11Stucat That's so cool man. I'm 42 in April, and miss the good ol days of straight ahead hard rock Shooting Star, Pat Travers, Y&T, etc. I was never a Grunge or Death Metal fan, and the early eighties was such a fertile period for this kind of sound and productuion values. Peace! -dave

  • I went to high school with the niece of one of the guys in this band. Small world. This song wails. It sounds like Montrose.

  • Saw these guys when they were still playing keg parties! They were good in their day but they were better back then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • for all the older listeners who have little to no faith left in todays youth (musically), i just wanna point out that i bought an original copy of this album on vinyl 2 years ago when i was about 14 or 15. im 17 now and i sympathize with you dearly

  • Ah, memories!! my old Fairlane, a case of beer on ice in the trunk, meeting up with friends for a road party...Good Times!

  • SWEEEET upload!

  • they were a midwest band was the first concert i ever went to shooting star with jet

  • Great Band....I got into them back in the early 80's.....I heard them on the radio....they have other great songs....like..Flesh and Blood, Last Chance, Tonight, so many ...only their greatest hits is available on CD.....too bad the original albums had great songs that never saw the airwaves, and because they are no longer in print...a new generation is missing out....

  • JUST AN AWESOME TUNE FROM A VERY UNDERRATED BAND , I LOVE IT! ;o)

  • This was one great band!

  • Love it!!!!

  • That album cover has been photo shopped! LOL

  • @Mukphly They did not have photoshop when the album was made. It took someone an assload of time to do it manualy. LOL.

  • @Mukphly - Naw, that's me one night, when we were at Motel 6 w/ the band and a bunch of Supercross guys, headin' to a race...

  • KSHE plays it in St Louuueeee!!!

  • @mneff11 yea thats bad ass!!!!

  • @mneff11 Great KC Band. (Kansas City for the unaware)

  • One of the best rock albums almost nobody has ever heard of. Saw these guys open for Kansas after I'd already bought their first two albums and it's hard to pick who was the better band that night. Great show, great song and a greatly underrated rock band.

  • Great guitar riff.

  • I was there, I saw then a few times back in the 80's

  • 1 dislike.......must be a bieber fan

  • 1 person didn't hang on for their life.

  • Nothing Like Shooting Star on Friday nite-and the hard Rockin side of April Wine on Saturday, → cruzin chicks in the Chevelle..! #LOL Underrated for Sure.!

  • 1 dislike?..........Nelson fan. These guys rock. Saw them twice @ the Uptown Theater in Kansas City. Still have 4 of their albums. Never really understood how they didn't get a lot more exposure outside the midwest.

  • this was a superb LP. not one bad track on it.

  • Ahh...the good ole days of the BUZZSAW!

  • most underrated rock & roll band ever. period.

  • another group that USA missed as a great group is trooper from Canada Two for the show an awesome record

  • Local AOR stations in Cincinnati and Dayton played this song a LOT. Probably their best tune.

  • Looove this tune!!

  • These guys are one of the best rock bands ever. From KC MO. Don't know why they didn't get much radio exposure. So many more tunes that are just as good are out there.

  • One of the best American hard rock bands of the 80´s. Not much known in the States, well known in Puerto Rico.

  • I loved it then, & I love it now!

  • I loved "Hang On" the first time I heard it. These guys could really write and compose. I had the "Best Of" Shooting Star CD at one time...I think one of my brothers really liked them too. Thanks for the post!

  • nice tune. tight rhythm and bass line.

  • Saw these guys at Chicago Fest when it was at Navy Pier. They were actually the opening act for Charlie Daniels. What a show!

  • ClassicHard!!!!Perfect Sound!!!

  • Shooting star had a good following in the Midwest., I saw the group perform in the late 70's and they absolutely rocked the house down!

  • Thanks for the upload. Very under-rated band. Another great song by them, that seemed to get little attention from the comments here, is Hollywood. They didn't rely on a thousand over-dubs and tons of studio polishing. For those of you who disrespect this band, I don't think you were around when they were big and downplay their impact on the music scene. For those of you who give kudos to this band, you know quality when you hear it.

  • another kick ass song from the eighties.good friday, saturday night cruzin music. those days need to come back.

  • want it back miss u guys/ Greg from Saint Paul,mn

  • By far my favorite Album the put out!!! This song is the sh!t !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • man i seen these guys in indy early 80's and was a fan 4 life but i can't find there music anywhere, what a shame they rocked liked superstars.

  • @4mhess

As I type this, Amazon has the first 5 albums (the ones with Gary & the 'real' band) in stock (on CD, of course). Grab 'em quick though, as stock is low on several of them. You're welcome.

  • Shooting Star played at our Lambda Chi Alpha rush party at William Jewell College in the fall of 1978, before they hit it big. Charlie Walz (electric violin) was a FIJI at Jewell.

  • @Popejoy

    What's a "FIJI"?

  • @Ken5244 A national fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta

  • @Popejoy

Of course. It's so obvious. *laugh*

OK, I'll ask: Why did they call them "FIJIs"?

  • @Ken5244 I think it's based on the first four letters: Phi G. They base their spring party around a Fiji Island theme, complete with wooden fences around their house, tiki torches, etc. And naturally my fraternity tried to burn down their fence with flaming arrows....

  • @Popejoy

Of course -- as any self-respecting rival fraternity would do. *laugh*

    Comical ....

  • My lil bro worked for this band...got to travel with em a couple of times.....It was awesome! Time for a reunion tour!~

  • '86 Navy island in St. Paul Mn.

  • I saw Shooting Star at ChicagoFest years ago...and I was hooked. They were VERY underrated and I still have their vinyls. :)

  • This IS one of THE BEST rock songs ever!

  • well thx for sharing but it wont load here for me :(

  • I remember the first time I heard this song I thought it kicked ass unfortunately this was the only good song that they did... I guess you could call Shooting Star just another one hit wonder band.... too bad...............

  • @ogrebattle22763 comeon, they had more than one,,,,,

  • @stickdog1000 Sorry man but it is....

  • @ogrebattle22763 Only good song they ever did? Have you ever listened to Last Chance? It's a classic.

  • @dsfddsgh Dude classic? Come on...

  • @ogrebattle22763 You probably listen to Britney and Ke$ha so what would you know about good music?

  • @dsfddsgh Listen it's my opinion of this band if you don't like it i really dont give a shit... grow up & stop taking the fact that someone doesn't have such adoration for a band you like so personally you douchebag.... if i said i liked Led Zeppelin & you didnt would i say you listened to Britney i wouldn't so your a dick...lol.. bye!

  • @dsfddsgh By the way I just watched some of their video DVD which is pretty cool but their not a classic band you dick..

  • @ogrebattle22763

Your posts look like they were written by a clueless teenager. Shooting Star was a major band for 5 or 6 years (1979 - 1985). They had 6 or 7 national AOR radio hits, did radio shows like Rockline and The King Biscuit Flower Hour, and toured with Journey, Kansas, Cheap Trick, Heart and other huge bands. They headlined from the 3rd album on, were amazing live, and were a world class band in every way until Gary left.

Your unawareness of them only reflects your ignorance.

  • @Ken5244Another one who makes insults & comments & takes it personally when someone else doesn't share the same adoration for a band they like I don't care about your explanations about them headlining & touring with Journey & Kansas & Cheap Trick etc etc they only had one good album if that the rest of their shit is garbage & remains in the 2 dollar bin you talking about headlining is bullshit & your the ignorant one if you think I am going to buy your garbage about them being some classic band

  • @ogrebattle22763

LOL at your feeble reply, not to mention your horrendous grammar & writing skills. Did you even graduate elementary school? I have friends with kids in 3rd grade who write better than you do.

I didn't take anything personally. I merely pointed out the facts about how popular Shooting Star was.

You've never even heard one of their albums in its entirety, let alone all 5 they did with Gary, so you have no basis upon which to claim "they only had one good album."

  • @Ken5244 Yeah whatever go tell somebody else your story I love when assholes like you take offense to somebody else having an opinion that doesn't jibe with there's then take it personally as if they are some personal member of the band & go on a long winded lecture about how great & wonderful the band is how nobody else know's shit, do me a favor & shut the fuck up you like them they are a classic "headlining" band & you think they are so great then good for you douchebag.... BYE DICKHEAD...

  • @ogrebattle22763

I started to reply to your latest round of immature, inarticulate tantrums, but why bother? Your words speak volumes about the kind of person you are, so I'll just let them speak for themselves.

  • @Ken5244 I m sure they do bye now.... boy wonder!

  • @Ken5244 I m sure they do bye now.... boy wonder! Throw on your shooting star records & go shoot a load... lol...

  • @Ken5244 You have not point dick... your just another jerk-off who is a fan of the band & thinks nobody else can have an opinion but his... your a douchebag & that's the point how's that for grammar you dick.... i don't care about who your friends are & who the hell Gary is & blah blah blah blah...... go put shooting star on & jerkoff to them if their so great..... what a dick...

  • @ogrebattle22763

Moreover, Webster's Dictionary defines the adjective "classic" as:

"Of recognized value ... enduring ... historically memorable ...."

Given the adulation expressed in various SS threads here on YT, and the obvious impact the band had on people, SS clearly meets the definition of the word.

I find it bizarre that a Queen fan like yourself would belittle this band. If you actually listened to "Last Chance" (the one posted by Nightwalker AOR), I really think you'd like it.

  • @Ken5244 Yeah webster's "DICK-TIONARY"...lolol.... for dick's like you!!!! LOL! BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH....

  • @ogrebattle22763

And let's reprint your 'best' work so you can't hide by deleting your posts:

"... do me a favor and shut the fuck up ... you think they are so great then good for you douchebag ... BYE DICKHEAD ... you're just another jerk-off ... your (sic) a douchebag ... how's that for grammar you dick ... go put shooting star on & jerkoff to them if their (sic) so great ... what a dick ... Yeah webster's "DICK-TIONARY' ... lolol ... for dick's (sic) like you!!! LOL! BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH"

  • @Ken5244 Yeah how about that the boy can read! lol....

  • @Ken5244 Ken5244 Yeah whatever go tell somebody else your story I love when assholes like you take offense to somebody else having an opinion that doesn't jibe with there's then take it personally as if they are some personal member of the band & go on a long winded lecture about how great & wonderful the band is how nobody else know's shit, do me a favor & shut the fuck up you like them they are a classic "headlining" band & you think they are so great then good for you douchebagBYE DICKHEAD.

  • @dsfddsgh What would you know about good music if your calling this band or song classic!

  • I spent many nights cruising to this tune!Makes me mis muscle cars,Noland rd,sundays at lake Jacomo, racing by the power plant and KCIR.They were a local band and the big station of the time was KY-102.

    Good times!

  • thank god i found an upload of this song, next weekend im sitting in with a band and playing this song on the bass :]

  • DITTO

  • i saw these guys in the early 80s the whole band was great the guitarist Van McLain was outstanding...

  • not really dosent sound like keith at all

  • Great local band, I always thought of them as a little Kansas meets Asia (the band). They were played quite a bit on KY102, but not enough in my estimation.

  • Cool Album cover!!

  • Great rock band gotta lot of airplay ..and toured...here in Puerto RIco (Alpha Rock) along with Saga in the eighties !

  • so now you kids know where tesla stole that sound from... ;)

  • Holy S! Another song the loop fm98 used to play!

  • Debbie Nicholas rock your heart out.

  • Haven't heard this one in years. Big hit here in the Twin Cities for awhile. KQ92 used to plug almost every hard rock band that came to town, whether they were big or not. These guys should've been huge.

  • @funkster007... Duluth too, KQ95 played it a ton. A simple heavy riff with an ultra-raw edge.

  • Funny grew up in the cities when KQ92 just started and hot rocking 101 lol and I remember this song as a kid I loved it

  • These guys rocked, this album was great! every song was awesome! I saw them live in Indianapolis at the vogue in the early eighties and they were amazing!

Still one of my all time favorite bands!

  • They play HammerJacks in St. Joseph 1/29 small club first 350 see the show

  • This band rocked free @ six flags Stl inthe late 80's

  • I remember these guys at a outdoor concert in Mpls. by the river if I remember correctly the first riverfest they were with Triumph and some local bands . They were by far the best band!!!

  • I love Shooting Star! Last Chance is my favorite song of theirs, but I like all I've heard. I never hear them anywhere other than my computer tho... :\

  • Gopher, which one, I heard they were gonna play out at Frontier on State Ave sometime in the near future.

  • thats my uncle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this on the radio-vaguly. San Jose California. I REMEMBER THIS SO WELL!!! I was in elementary school when this hit. COOL!!!

  • K-SHE still plays this song. They play Shooting Star alot! And now i'm feeling old.....I still have the lps.

  • yes i have all those songs. i had this set of tunes from the 80's... and people wonder if it's tesla when i play this stuff at parties and i explain to them WAY before tesla... let's not forget HOLLYWOOD is another bad ass tune... tesla has a few good tunes but i never cared for them later on they cheezed out but i really dig the old shooting star stuffs cause it reminds me of the era. i'm an 80's kid. 45 and still listen to that era, and classic rock from the 70's... this way party music!

  • hmmm... tesla? ;)

  • NA BRAH ! way b4 "tesla" was on the sene. understandable voice compairison AND "tesla" aint no slouch/VERY hard hitting band also. YOU may already know,so this is for any new listners: i ask you to take a sec & tisten to 4 more songs ,would you do it? they potential of becoming 1 of your "favorite fun" bands of all time! PLEASE TRY: "breakout" "are you on my side" "flesh n blood" "last chance" got 2 B the most underratted band ever/ comments welcome
  • @z1inspector

sounds more like sammy hagar than tesla's lead singer.

  • @z1inspector I've listened to this band since they formed after the breakup of Missouri! I agree with you this is a must have band for any classic rocker's collection and the band members are good people too!

  • kick ass tune... i had this album. memories.

  • lol steve thomas (shooting star's drummer) is my drum teacher

  • Shooting Star RULES! One band that really deserved world wide fame and fortune! I had a chance to see them live in 85' at the Blue Note in Columbia, MO. I got carded though and couldn't get in!!

  • There was like a year, maybe two, where this band was big. Then they just got dropped from radio. Sucks. They had multiple GREAT songs...

  • Great song. I'm surprised metal bands don't cover it. The way I remember it, about half of this album got airplay. Don't know why this band didn't go further. I certainly loved this record in my teen years.

  • We have a Station or 2 in the Quad City Area that actually play this song quite often!

  • A good rockin song!...very underrated, I do remember it.

  • Watch my video, really funny

  • I recorded the Greatest Hits from cassette over to MiniDisc, now it always sounds good and has the goofy Christmas song on it too!

  • Best song never played on fm radio... Go KC MO.

  • has anyone put "Just Friends" out there...

  • i used to hear this song all the time on sirius before it merged with xm on buzzsaw

  • Love this band!! Saw them in either 1981 or 82---in St. Louis. I still remember how awesome these guys sounded---not a studio magic band. They were the real thing.

Thanks for posting this tune--great stuff!

  • Saw them at "Superjam" in the old Busch Stadium. Here was the lineup: Shooting Star, April Wine, Judas Priest, Sammy Hagar, and Journey! (I was 10......thanks Uncle Mark!)

  • Yep SUPERJAM 80" at Busch Stadium, man those were the days!!! Great line up, takes me back

  • Holy Sh*t!! Let's see... Shooting Star, April Wine, Sammy Hagar, Journey and Judas Priest?? What memories!!

  • Were you there? St. Louis, just freaking awesome!!! Steve Perry taking a water hose and cooling everyone off.........sigh..............to go back to those days

  • I saw them at Kiel auditorium before that but at superjam as well. man that brings back memories. i live in Dallas now but raised in St Louis till I was 30 . lived off of Big Bend on Sanders Dr. about a mile from K-SHE talk about some good rock and roll that town had it back then.

  • Cool, I was there too - Sammy came riding out of the sun roof of a red Trans am - Jumped up on the stage and started jamming - Got my stub somewhere.

  • hoping you can put up just friends

  • WHOA what a great find this tune is.Never heard of this band or the song. Thanks for posting this gem.

  • Last Chance was their hit tune - all of their tunes rock

  • U never heard of em ,been hearin alot of that. for years

THEY actually shud of been heard & played like bad company etc...their that good! WONDER WHO DROPED THE BALL for these guys .

VIRGIN sighnd them !!! CUD IT BE THEM WHO DID THESE GUYS A TERRIBLE DIS-SERVICE

vrey scarey that this could happen to a band that has "LAST CHANCE" to their credit.

    ******ANYONE KNOW THE REASON*****

im sure this topic has been discussesd somwhere,HELL i been wonderin about it since i was a little kid

  • cont.

Dude these guys got bad ass tune after bad ass tune,in fact im sure they will become 1 of ur most favorite.

By now i hope uv also heard "breakout" "on my side""hollywood" & like stimpp said "LAST CHANCE"

This song is up their with the short list of superior songs:

    Kashmir #1 the others- arguably & in random order:stairway,bad company,,heaven&hell,in the evening,come sail away,imigrant song,dust in the wind,in the light,perfect strangers,the price, +others

    THATS SAYIN SOMTHIN

  • wow this is pretty damn good

  • this was kind of a lost album. not many people had it when i was young. great party song.

  • The album cover was the catch, the music was the keeper! Last Chance is my all time favorite!

  • saw them in st. joseph last nite. in chicago tonight. go see them. they wont disapoint you. very nice people. great musicians and one hell of a fun show

  • They used to play this one on WLLZ, and WRIF in Detroit back in the day. Holla back.

  • love this song and this album. wish we could here stuff like this in detroit now, pete. Good thing for youtube! I have this on vinyl. A record player is another issue

  • A great song, have this album since it came out. Back in the day would choose albums by the art on the cover. Rainbow was another favorite.

  • AGREE,

amazing that u mentioned shooting star & Richie Blacmores Rainbow,

over the years ive said very often these 2 bands were most underated.

well at liest some hearda Rainbow

/Poor shooting star = Sombody failed promoting these guys

    ** I GUESS SOMEONE AT VIRGIN??? **

Id love to hear input on this

    ANY 1?????

  • at ne point, there was a hits comp called "Best of Shooting Star: Touch Me Tonight..." which I got....then it became a cheap cut out....so I got one with a long box....preserved it.....then I see where someone sold a copy on ebay for 20.00....I still have 2 copies, and 2 copies of the store bought tape, one defective

  • wow...this is a killer song...haven't heard it in sooo long! Puts me in a great mood!

  • I bought this album back in 81/82. It is a great album that should be made available on CD. I went to buy a dirt bike (Honda XR 350R) and was considered the "craziest" rider around as I was brave enough to take that bike and jump it over large obsticles at (a) very high rate of speed. Cracked my helmet on several occasions. Good thing I was wearing it, as I did not always like to wear one. The number I put on that bike was 135 or (ACE). Song certainly brings back some memories...

  • Absolutely one of the most underated bands from way back when. I got into them right before I got out of the Marriene Corps in 1980. One of the first cassettes I boought for my first car was "Hang On For Your Life." I actually still got there first two albums on vinyl....Glad to hear they are coming out with a new album soon.

  • they are coming out with a new album? I hope it's not all pop...

  • I'm in MN, 42 years old...KQRS FM still plays them from time to time

  • I absolutely agree that this song was definitely underated & should have been appreciated alot more then it was!

  • It's blood Pumpin, arse kickin...much like the lost Axe classic "Rock N Roll Party In the Street"
