I'd always wondered about it, but from hearing this I can clearly hear that Ray didn't use the Continental live and as far as I know, other than their first album he seems to have actually favored Farfisa, despite his kind of reputation as a VOX man.

Ray played it that way once: on the studio recording. It is different in every other live performance. Kudos for learning it note for note...but that should be considered what it is: a transcription. It does not make sense to say "why try to improve by improvising" when the original was obviously (mostly) improvised. I would have enjoyed this post a lot more if I had not read the "more info" tab.

love my farfisa and i love playing this song of course its not as good as you cause i dont have a rhodes bass but my piano teacher's keyboard gets the job done and i cant solo and keep the bass going

Even though The Doors did not have a regular bass player, keyboardist Ray Manzarek was so BRILLIANT, adding bass lines from his keyboard. Ray's playing was almost hypnotic! I have so much respect for Ray -- said to be just a great guy all around!

FYI: Session bass player Larry Knetchel can be heard on "Soul Kitchen," "Twentieth Century Fox," "Back Door Man," "I Looked At You" and "Take It As It Comes" -- Jerry Scheff played on LA Woman (my personal favorite).

Without a doubt the absolute best performance I have ever heard in my life of this song. I am not a technical expert when it comes to the piano, but it appears to be flawless and sounds exactly the same as the studio recording. I really like that you played it on the fender compact. I watched your demo of it and I was excited to see you recorded it on this. I think the sound of the fender is better than the vox. Does that make me a rebel?

Also about his playing it's great copying and nothing wrong with that, but really doesn't show much of his musical talent. i have to agree with what you say - this is, as far as i can tell, just about exactly what ray manzarek recorded. and you should be very proud, as you seem to be, that you have that level of skill. i know i'd love to get to the point you're at technically. but i'm not sure that the ability to imitate exactly what others play is so important. yes a musician should study his or her heroes and learn to do what you are doing here, but the step after that is to incorporate their style into your own.
