  • Blessed Be ♥

  • Thanks! :) ;) gosh, i love Eddie,..

  • muito lindo..parabens! salve os amantes da antiga arte!!

  • This is a great example of art that bring a joy to the heart and deep thoughts to the mind. Thank you CelticMusings for posting and dearest Masha ( opensecret51) for sharing!

  • @RavenofShalott There is nothing of the story you refer to in the words (though it is possible that Yeats

had it in mind when he chose the title; poets do things like that). Nor is this a dialogue between star-crossed lovers. Nor are the matters I refer to shallow; the problems of evil in the world and breaking free of depression or accidie in life are among the deepest we all face. I would say that this is a poem in the ambient Western European Christian tradition....

  • @LeslieBeaumont ...but I would also say that to analyze things like this to the point of dispute is to gaze in the bitter glass. Listen :-) we can do that together....

  • Tree of life who gives me breath , long have you stood an long after my death . Shelter me like you have my clan before , the ones left behind they will adore .May you stand for as long as you can. Tree of life i know that you can .

  • @RavenofShalott Read the words. They aren't about that. They are about two different ways of seeing the world.

  • @LeslieBeaumont That's my reaction to the discussion: so much that is said is not really about what is to be seen in the poem. I agree with everyone that it is beautiful.

  • @RavenofShalott The poem is a modern piece about depression, and perhaps about the problem of evil.

Setting it to Celtic music is a brilliant effect, but if there is any mythology it is Norse (Odin's ravens). Probably I'm looking at it through the bitter glass :-) It is so beautiful I must keep listening....

  • @LeslieBeaumont and I mustn't forget the classical mythology (Loves = Cupid). The demons

are of course Christian in conception. It is a beautiful composition, and I love the way the poet uses

the change in expression of his imagined listener...and Ms McKennit's rendition is transcendent.

  • Extremely beautiful.

  • What a beautiful song! :-)

  • This song is beautiful, Loreena is an extremely talented woman and i envy her. She is my favorite artist, by far. She has a way of bringing such elder life back to us through her songs. It is truly amazing.

  • I love this song. I have had the privilege to see her in concert twice...... :-)

  • Europa Sancta! Save the Aryan Race.

  • This song can be heard in highlander 3!

    I love this song!

  • I love this song

  • I'm French but I can deeply feel the lyrics of this poem inside me and it arouses me a feeling of fulfilment and intense emotion. Both Yeats and McKennitt are geniuses.

Thanks of lot for this video.

  • ich liebe ihre Musik!!! sie ist ein wunderbar schöne frau und so ist auch ihre Musik

  • This makes me think of a sanctuary, a grassy hill on which one magnificent tree stands. From the top of the hill, all of creation can be seen, the very seams of the world, it's quiet breath and silent movements. You can see the world, slumbering, peaceful. Radiating with hopes and dreams, bathing in stellar lights...

    Such a beautiful song...

  • probably the most beautiful song ever recorded

  • Breathe!!!!!!

  • there can be only one ;)

  • sounds like from the Braveheart OST

    how beautyful in voice.

  • we are pilgrims on our journey from where? to where?. there is def something or somwhere that we long to attain and we have for many eons of time.

  • Early morning mist In the oaken forests, Across the golden fields, I call out to thee... May all that I be, And all that I am, Be one with Thee, Goddess within me Goddess around me Maker of the trees. Blessed be!!! )0(
  • @celticbattleaxe Blesse Be )O(

  • it's like a lullaby! :}

  • The Pipes, The Pipes!

  • @SandmanForestwalker The Uillean pipes :)

  • very suggestive, very evocative.! ..the low quality plays its part in imagination

  • reminds me of the Ren Fest

  • what's with those 5 cocaine-dealers?

  • I really wonder if the two trees in the Silmarillion were based on this poem, makes me really curious now by listen to the lyrics of this song.

  • @MrSamixOxo18

Yes, certainly the title is the same ;) And I agree that the words of Yeats' poem fits Tolkien's mythos nicely...though it would be just like Tolkien to focus on the trees rather than the mortal lovers!

  • i love loreenna!

  • when i listen to her music, i feel as if im transprotrted through time and space, to a place where knights do wear shinning armor, and there are dragons protecting young maidens from harm and keeping them from escaping.

  • Would this music sound good used in a soundtrack? Sure!

Weel, go take a look ate "sword rebuild montage", Highlander III.

    ;-)

  • @ricardoslhenriques

    Aye :-)

Could have been a soundtrack to some of my stories.

    I am a writer....

  • @bohemianwriter1 me too! :D this inspired one of the scenes in the story I've been working on for months but had writer's block...

  • Comment removed

  • amazing

  • Hermoso!!! Musica e imagenes... Saludos desde Argentina

  • her voice makes me feel like everything is going to be ok no matter what song it is its so...idk

  • All covers that are made by Loreena McKennitt are magnific! I love her songs like this one.

    Like

  • any day now aliens are going to come to earth and abduct loreena, telling us that we aren't worthy of living on the same planet as her.

    *hails*

  • This is one of my favorite songs, and I like WB Yeats. I visited his gravesite in Sligo three years ago.

  • Beautiful just like you Dearest CelticMusings!!!

  • I like the way you did the tree!!!:)

  • Two Trees

  • My favorite LM song.

  • i never knew bagpipes could sound so beautiful; they get such a bad rap!

  • I agree with riki...even though I think of faeries running in slow-motion through an old autumn forest:)

  • Blessed are those who turn sadness into beauty.

  • She also sings The Lady of Shalott. Does she do a lot of poems?

  • @Janiqua She did a great job singing the highwayman too.

  • @Janiqua

Also St. John of the Cross' "On A Dark Night"

    So...yes :)

  • @7SonsofFeanor

Do you mean "Dark Night of the Soul"?

  • @BeinnBheagh

Yes, I was giving the first line.

  • @Janiqua She does, although she also writes a lot of her own stuff. It's cool to hear classic poetry set to music, especially in her style & with her voice!

  • riki91919: very well said.

  • This song is hauntingly beautiful, impossibly old, and makes me think of ancient days of knights sleeping in bed, unwounded even after a long, wearing war, dreaming of a peaceful life, full of honor of their mighty days in war, slashing through their foes like cornstalks, yet untouched. They look forward to a life of pride, watching their own children grow old, and teaching them to be strong. It is incredible...I am addicted already.

  • nope It makes me think about trees and mistique lands

  • @0RobinHood1 I LIKE CORN CHIPS...

    what wha...?

  • yea.what?

  • @riki91919 well said...

  • @riki91919 I find what I read in people's comments odd and surprising sometimes. To me it seems that this song is about depression and its antidote...

  • @riki91919 Just sent chills down my spine

  • @riki91919 with this music in the background, that was quite possibly the most epic comment i ever read

  • oww..that haunting pipes solo really stirrs my soul...

  • This song is.. well.. I don't have the word for it. O_o

    I'm enchanted, simply..

I have been looking at a forest covered completely with snow through my window for hours, listening to this song again and again.

In that few hours, I wanted to go waaay back in time. :l

    Weird feeling..

Can't believe it that someone can make music this enchanting, symbolic and melanholic.

  • Blessed Be )O(

  • Thank God you posted this.

  • I wouldn't call it hippies... it's more like pagan, and i love it <3

  • lol no is galic orhowever u spell it

  • .......this can make you think about many things. the most extravagant that my mind came to was the fact that us humans think we are better than everything else, be it the trees or the animals, and that we have a right to kill them for pointless reasons. and we're not.... we are all of god's creation....

  • what i saw here is the prettiest of NATURE can give to us: shelter of the tall trees, their oxygen, their protectiveness to ALL BEINGS, be it a wolf, a horse or a human. they all rest within their shade.

what i hear in Loreena's lyrics takes me to the universe as her singing is above our ability to perceive the MAGNIFICA of the ONENESS that we, humans should find ourselves along with ALL BEINGS.

PEACE to this planet and their ALL DWELLERS.

    krysana, Poland

  • this is the first time ever listened to mckennitt, i've never even heard of her before now, but i lovbe this music, it's amazing to listen to and it touches my heart, :) xx

  • I was hooked when i listened to Mummers Dance by her after not hearing it since the Movie Ever After.

    that song is truly Majestic.

  • @XxDemonicAngel15xX Well brother you are a s lucky as a dog woith two dicks! Suss out her music and you will be mesmerized altogether. The Greatest gift from Canada to the world indeed!

    Wicked music!

  • meravigliosa ed evocativa poesia...

  • If I understand correctly, this piece is the combination of "Ce Ne Unaigh Ulainn" (Who am I to bear it?, which apparently is the name of the song played by the bagpipes) and Loreena's music written on the poem "The Two Trees".

I love this song. It's calm, comforting. Yet it also has a deep sadness. The beautiful lyrics amplified by Loreena's wonderful music, performance and voice make this a song which should be able to touch almost anyone...

  • I have to cry if I hear every song of Mckennit 5*

  • is this song related at all to the poem "The Two Trees" done by William Yeats, an Irish poet?

  • Yes! :) It is the poem *with a few lyrical changes* put to music! :D

  • She did something like that to "The Lady of Shallot" too. She sang almost the entire poem.

  • she also sang "The Highway Man"

  • @jyxslayer916

shes actually has a few songs taken from his works, very amazing stuff.

i would Love to meet and talk to her in person.

  • My dad used to play her music for my sister and I all the time when we were kids. To this day whenever I hear her music I'm back on my father's sail boat out on the lake or in the back seat of our old car on the way home, late at night, the music and the motion rocking me to sleep.

  • cmurphy2826, Very good memories to have:) Hang on them for dear life as one day they will sustain you through difficult moments. I have similar memories and when I reflect back they always bring a smile and sometimes a tear of happiness. :))

  • this song is so beautiful.

my chior is doing this for our spring concert.

  • Thank You....quite stunning..lovely for reflection...

  • sounds fine to me great music

  • epic.....love from turkey.

  • es la voz de dios.... su musica trascende el alma.

  • I look after the live of this wonderful song.

  • Never heard of Loreena Mckennitt till today. Wow what a wonderufl , wonderful music and what a perfect voice.

  • @Nebelhorn66 Well aren't you in for a great jounney! You will love it. Canada's gift to the world!

    PAX

  • @sgtcrab1 ...already done that (a Christmas gift from my husband). Loved the DVD.

  • i think this is Davy spillane playing the uilleann pipes.[irish pipes]

    cheack him out on here

  • Actually the piper is Patrick Hutchinson, a less-known, but definitely just as good piper.

  • Impressive! Owo

  • Lol. I don't think we needed to know that XD.

  • I'm not gonna be too sentimental now, but it is in the middle of the night where I live, I sit in a dark room, and I just listened to this...and when it stopped and everything went silent again...I felt like when one is waking up from a beautiful dream and the memory of it is slipping through one's fingers. How I love her music!

  • how is that not to sentimental?

  • oh, me too!!!

  • loreena's music = true magic, bless her and I can't wait to see her this month!

  • Only today have I discovered Loreena McKennitt, I have wasted all those years....she is wonderfull. Thanks for posting

  • I have been listening to Loreena McKennitt since the early 90s. Her music is bewitchingly beautiful, painting pictures of times that we hope deep in our hearts once existed and are now fading to legend; very evocative!

  • there is a saying;

The people who care don't matter and the people who matter don't care, be who you want to be, stand tall and proud.

  • I have loved Loreena Mckennit since I was little and like celtic and folk music better than rap or pop... celtic music kind of speaks to me

  • You wrote, "celtic music kind of speaks to me" KittieShiny.

    Amen.

  • When we realize the peace of our heart, we learn to live and act in peace:)

Her voice gives this message to me, calm down and feel life, thanx Loreena

  • Wow!

  • glass tears 8 is exactly right, . . . I couldnt have said it better, . . . this music frees my spirit, . . . my heart, . . . makes me feel whole again , . .. thank God for Loreeena, . . .[ RIP thomas Hilferty ]

  • Beautiful....

  • I love the cello solo at the end. Very moving.

  • I feel sorry that this generation can't appreciate music like this anymore. All we do is fill our minds with violent, hateful melodies and words. I believe that music directs us; everything has a...rhythm, I suppose. So maybe if we listen to calm music, we can learn to love rather than loath.

That's all the world needs. The only real goal in all lives--past and present--is to find that love and inner peace.

  • disagree; i'm of this gen.(18) and still enjoy this type of music; as do many of my friends.

  • Ha ha, I'm of this generation, too; 13. I was only referring to the public at large. If you were to ask around, you'd find that most of the "preppy" kids would scorn country. I didn't mean any offense; the comment board is for thoughts, and that's just the way I see it.

  • You are right, not many of our age listen to Loreena. I'm 16 and I listen to her for about one or two years now. Many listen to hiphop, pop, rock and/or metal. Some of such songs are good, but I can never love it like how I love Loreena's music. I often don't tell others what music I listen. I'm afraid others may think things about me that are not true.

  • if u are afraid what others think about u... maybe u are afraid of have to choose betwen what u love and ur friends... if thats so, maybe u need to meet other ppl.. cause no one have the right to judge u for what u like

  • It's so easy to give people the wrong thoughts, but you're right, thank you. After the holiday, I'll meet new people anyway ^^

  • if your school has one i would suggest joining its crew team to meet people when i joined my rowing team i found a whole new group of people who were very kind and helpful but especialy fun oh and your right not enough people from our generaton enjo her music

  • I think that you're wrong. It's best to tell people what you think first, rather than assume what they may or may not say in regards to it.

Friends are not people that always agree with you, but people who can still accept you regardless.

Ok... maybe I'm thinking to deeply about this stuff.

*heads off to do something useful*

  • I agree with you! :D you're thinking about this just enough! Friends who are true friends will be with you no matter what!

  • If you told them, they would come to see that you can think for yourself. Which is... not something many care to do these days.

  • My best friends know, it just don't tell it right away ;)

But it can be really annoying of someone doesn't think for him- or herself, then I'm like: Man, give me YOUR opinion for once!

    So I do care :)

  • never care. you are who you are and there is absoloutly nothing wrong or embarrasing about liking true music, true poetry. all it says is you have a better grasp on the magic of life. xxx

  • very well said=)

  • @Chealder "Don't be afraid to feel passionate about something". that's a quote from Loreena herlself!!! society it's very damaged, i know how you feel i'm not old i'm 23 and many of my friends thinks i just love to live in my own world that u can't have a real conversation cause it seems i'm floating in a cloud of unreal things. However i learned how to deal with it, we've got Loreena...they don't, i think LM fans have a particular perception of life, it's unique and I love it, be proud of it!

  • @Maggiesalsa I've changed quite a bit since I wrote that comment, yet I often still struggle with the same kinds of things, though a bit different way now. I've learned not to care about what people think about you. What do they know anyway? Only the way you look, that's all. I had a little smack in the face with creating my own identidy today, but I'm not giving up on it. Wonderful how your comment came on such a time! ^_^

  • @Chealder haha that's the magic of Loreena's music i guess lol, i'm glad you're not giving up! no one should tell us how to live our life, it's our decition...as long as we don't hurt anybody ;). U know i've got Loreena's quotes written on my wardrobe's door, so i can read it every morning, so now i say if ppl don't get me well...it's their problem, not mine, I'm happy and fine with who i am! i used to be very insecure though, i've got to thank LM for making me stronger! she changed my life!.

  • @GlassTears8 You are so right. What happened to music that comes from the heart and leaves a story in our mind. What a heavenly voice she has!!

  • @GlassTears8 yeah, i mean i am only 13 but i love this kind of music.i grew up with it so maybe thats why. i mean i like new up-beat music too but there is just this sort of inner peace with this kind of music that i just love. and why are there no radio channels with this sort of music? anyway i agree.even though violence is useful at times, but should not be long lasting and plage every day of your life.

  • don't let cynicism become your creed, stay young at heart and you'll never die.

  • Even though celtic music isn't at any point related in greek, i think i must have been a celt in my past life , I just love it and I LOVE this song :))

  • Ancient Greeks generally had good relations with Celts.

  • There's little else to like about Highlander III than Loreena's songs.

  • i really have to say, im crying now

  • It is good. Humans have feelings. The globalists dont want us to have feelings.

Positive thoughts are powerful and needful.

    Solidarität ist eine "Waffe"!

  • The first time I heard the pipe intro I thought it was the most beautiful piece of pipe music I had every heard. And hearing it again tonight, I have not changed my view.

  • I agree! The first time I heard it I fought back tears... then the piano playing and loreena's voice brings them out. It really is a very beautiful meloncholy song.
