I think that using the sync button is not really mixing .. i mean beatmatching and putting the BPM at the same tempo is half of the work ..I should use the cdj 800 .. but this is just my opinion :)

MIDI controllers are for people who dont have the passion and persistence needed in being able to mix using their ears. and fyi, richie hawtin uses turntables. as do jamie jones, seth troxler, kerri chandler + many more. you dont have a clue and dont understand that they use software like traktor aswell as effects-units or any other hardware to manipulate their sound to suit them.

The Traktor Kontrol X1's control 2 decks each in Traktor. So all 4 decks in tracker are being put through the 4 decks on the mixer. The CDJ's aren't being used.

Hey Trev I have a question , when I install traktor pro 1.2 and i trying to play a music on it i get some weird chirping noise and the track is automaticly speeded up like by 8bpm, u know whats wrong?
@lfsdorifter was trying to replicate it this weekend and made you a video, but you beat me to it. You had to adjust your latency settings didnt you - my guess was they were too low on your internal soundcard correct?
the worst mix that i hear in all my life, the 4 tracks does not do a nice quality of sound, maybe you first should hear your tracks and then see what track does a nice quality with another....

From what me and my friend have done syncing two macs with 4 tracks each and through a zero 8 mixer, i have taken percussion and basically just loops and i have let him take the lead on mixing and track selection, that way theres no chance of getting your wires crossed. Apart from the obvious its still a good video man, keep it up!
I'm very interested in knowing how this was recorded. I'm wanting to get a video of myself with the same angle. Is it simply just a camera pointing down with the audio from the mixer being fed into the camera? or is it connected to the computer?
@voocasa we mounted a flip HD above the mixer for a birds eye view, and then recorded the audio directly from the mixer to a seperate program. Imported both into adobe premiere, removed the audio from the camera and replaced with a clean direct feed. We always exaggerate the very first movement of pressing play so that its easier to sync up the audio stream with the video. Hope that helps!

I thought it only assisted you not actually did the work for you! As for Richie Hawtin, well I was never the star struck type anyway so to each his own Brother! I think its your preference but saying that beat matching is an easy process is just insulting! For what its worth, I personally loved the track list but hated the mixing, not just cause of the sync button but it just didn't work. I do apologize if I offend you and in no way am I trying to, but don't you miss the beat matching at all? I have been DJing for quite some time and I too had an ear for music and was able to mix on my first try. Not that it sounded smooth but the beats matched. After years of practice, I can not only mix 3 tracks at once but while laying effects as well. I just learned what this sync button actually does not too long ago (since most of my DJ colleagues still spin and purchase wax and CD's/HDD).

@MrOLhello I am not the least bit ashamed of the sync button. I have been djing for 12 years, 8 of that was all manual beatmatching and it just doesn't excite me anymore. Traktor + sync + 3-4 decks + maschine = the new djing in my mind. Its all about CREATING now and not about how amazing you are at matching a tempo you know? Ill go find ya on soundcloud!
@Nygel36 new technology is wonderful, convenient and cuts down on the physical side of dragging a big arse box of cds and vinyl, but unless your creating your own track sampling loops from each of the 4 decks and processing the signals on the fly then theres no real difference between using sync and putting a mix cd on Beat matching is an essential core skill and divides the men from the boys, dont get me wrong i use it myself to augment other tracks but its too easy to become lazy & dependant.
@gordongate I agree with your comment 100% when you are ONLY using 2 decks. When you add 2 more and are mixing 4 - i think its imperative and mixing takes on a new form. Totally in agreement with you tho, thanks for the comment.
@MrOLhello Try asking them to mix anything in the 70-100 BPM range. Basically anyhing that does not have a 4/4 beat structure. I've learned this is where auto sync fails miserably

@gregwales I have no idea what your point is in regards to having one dj that specializes in one genre to play another. Pretty much anyone would have no trouble doing so. My point is that Traktor's beat mapping system is flawed in regards to lower BPM tracks or tracks with more complex drum patterns. With house or any genre that has a 4/4 beat structure you don't really see any issues in where Traktor has issues mapping the downbeat or kick in the beat grid.
@6th818 Your post started with "Try asking them to mix…" Taking that into account, your post seems to imply that you are questioning the dj's ability to mix genres within lower bpm ranges/different beat structures (and not referring to software). I therefore gathered that you were, as with many others, taking a stab at the use of sync in this video and in doing so, claiming this showed a lack of skill, which would result in an inabillity to mix said genres. So.. Yes, I missed your point.
@MrOLhello 92 is not routed to computer at all. Audio 8 is tho, and then each channel from its outs are sent to each channel on the mixer. Hope that helps

Hi, Im intending to buy 2 X Kontrol X1 and Traktor Pro 2 for a start, doesnt seem like you guys needa use the CDJs. So can I DJ with just using Kontrol X1 as the controllers for beatmatching, with Traktor Pro 2 and the main club mixer?

From what me and my friend have done syncing two macs with 4 tracks each and through a zero 8 mixer, i have taken percussion and basically just loops and i have let him take the lead on mixing and track selection, that way theres no chance of getting your wires crossed. Apart from the obvious its still a good video man, keep it up!

I'm very interested in knowing how this was recorded. I'm wanting to get a video of myself with the same angle. Is it simply just a camera pointing down with the audio from the mixer being fed into the camera? or is it connected to the computer?
any help would be fantastic!

@voocasa we mounted a flip HD above the mixer for a birds eye view, and then recorded the audio directly from the mixer to a seperate program. Imported both into adobe premiere, removed the audio from the camera and replaced with a clean direct feed. We always exaggerate the very first movement of pressing play so that its easier to sync up the audio stream with the video. Hope that helps!

I thought it only assisted you not actually did the work for you! As for Richie Hawtin, well I was never the star struck type anyway so to each his own Brother! I think its your preference but saying that beat matching is an easy process is just insulting! For what its worth, I personally loved the track list but hated the mixing, not just cause of the sync button but it just didn't work. But then again, that's why your not Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, or Deep Dish! Keep practicing guys! Tracks=good

I do apologize if I offend you and in no way am I trying to, but don't you miss the beat matching at all? I have been DJing for quite some time and I too had an ear for music and was able to mix on my first try. Not that it sounded smooth but the beats matched. After years of practice, I can not only mix 3 tracks at once but while laying effects as well. I just learned what this sync button actually does not too long ago (since most of my DJ colleagues still spin and purchase wax and CD's/HDD).

@MrOLhello I am not the least bit ashamed of the sync button. I have been djing for 12 years, 8 of that was all manual beatmatching and it just doesn't excite me anymore. Traktor + sync + 3-4 decks + maschine = the new djing in my mind. Its all about CREATING now and not about how amazing you are at matching a tempo you know? Ill go find ya on soundcloud!

@Nygel36 new technology is wonderful, convenient and cuts down on the physical side of dragging a big arse box of cds and vinyl, but unless your creating your own track sampling loops from each of the 4 decks and processing the signals on the fly then theres no real difference between using sync and putting a mix cd on Beat matching is an essential core skill and divides the men from the boys, dont get me wrong i use it myself to augment other tracks but its too easy to become lazy & dependant.

@MrOLhello Try asking them to mix anything in the 70-100 BPM range. Basically anyhing that does not have a 4/4 beat structure. I've learned this is where auto sync fails miserably

Plus do you really think its practical to mix 4 decks of music without syncing .....? I dont think so. @gregwales I have no idea what your point is in regards to having one dj that specializes in one genre to play another. Pretty much anyone would have no trouble doing so. My point is that Traktor's beat mapping system is flawed in regards to lower BPM tracks or tracks with more complex drum patterns. With house or any genre that has a 4/4 beat structure you don't really see any issues in where Traktor has issues mapping the downbeat or kick in the beat grid.

@6th818 Your post started with "Try asking them to mix…" Taking that into account, your post seems to imply that you are questioning the dj's ability to mix genres within lower bpm ranges/different beat structures (and not referring to software). I therefore gathered that you were, as with many others, taking a stab at the use of sync in this video and in doing so, claiming this showed a lack of skill, which would result in an inabillity to mix said genres. So.. Yes, I missed your point.
