I have the same CG-5 as you, I'm wondering where you found the cable that goes from your hand controller to RS232? I haven't been able to find one that I know for sure works with the CG-5. And also what RS232 to USB adapter is that? I know there are some compatibility issues so just want to be certain before I buy :)

@kowspot2000 Hey Kowspot2000, I bought the RS232 cable and the adapter from Celestron since I'm using the Celestron ASGT mount. Your best to call a scope seller and ask for the cables that will work with your mount. Good luck
Yes D, I think you likely can user Stellarium with Sky View Pro. You need Stellarium and Stellarium Scope - both free downloads. When you hook your laptop up to your scope there is drop down box and you pick the type of Scope you have. Good luck
Could you be able to use stellarium on any goto scope? Like an Orion goto scope example the 120 Skyview Pro....would I be able to use Stellarium on that type of scope like how you rigged yours? Thanks! :D
@liltd87 Yes, that will work fine. The CG5 has a Vixen Style dovetail mount used by most telescopes. My Orion Astroview 100 Refractor fits on this mount too.
@liltd87 That will work well. The CG5 is quite good for power - it doesn't draw nearly as much as an HEQ5 for instance. You will likely need two counterweights (11 lbs each) to balance your 8" Reflector. Have fun!
@JamesJames4 If its not too much trouble, could you please post a vid showing how you assemble the weight to the mount. I feel scared that it may fall.
@liltd87 Hey, its pretty straight forward - just unscrew the little disk (looks like a quarter) at the end of the counter-weight shaft - the little disk is called the Toe-Saver. Then undo the locking lever on the counterweight until you can poke your finger into the whole in the counter-weight without feeling the metal pin sticking out. Slide the Counter-Weight half-way onto the counter-weight shaft and pull the little lever to lock the counter-weight in position. Then re-attach the Toe-Saver
@JamesJames4 i feel like a damn idiot now! I was trying the wrong hole all this time, and just NOW i looked on the other side of the mount and saw where the weight is supposed to be screwed in. DUHH. THanks for helping again. lol
@liltd87 Good luck with the CG5. If its your first equatorial mount it does seem really weird the way it moves and things like the counter shaft. You'll be an old pro in no time.
I think MI5 would also like the laptop manufactures stick on labels removed. Other that that your doing well mate.
