Sorry. I love old boxing movies. But the fight scenes in boxing movies were lame until Rocky came out. None impressed me up till that point. And then Rocky Balboa came out and has been the most realistic boxing scene ever filmed.
@marcxopoco This music has nothing to do with the film. It is the music I chose to go with this video that I made by editing together different parts of fight sequence from the film. I don't find the music 'disgusting' in the least. But you are entitled to your opinion. Assuming you don't have the film, you'll be glad to know you can look at free clips of it without editing or added music on YouTube. Including a 9.43 min clip I uploaded. Alternatively, you buy it for around $4 on Amazon.
I assume you must be very busy posting similar complaints all over Youtube. This is just some fun, you're entitled not to like it but, by the level of your outrage, you'd swear I'd gone and done this to the original prints of the film. I haven't defaced anything, the original still exists for you to enjoy in all its purity. As a little friendly advice, perhaps you might consider avoiding Youtube videos that describe themselves as montages set to music as the idea obviously offends you so much.
This user "toiseywoisey" has since responded to me in a personal message - obviously he/she felt the need to keep his/her aggression and racism private. Apparently, I should only "fuck around with my own culture" and not classic Hollywood cinema, which is of course utterly 'uncontaminated' by other cultures. Wonder what Robert Ryan would have to say about referring to an Irish person as a "mick"?
@Tikilizzy I can't believe the bigotry you find on Youtube. I've never seen anyone so ignorant as this person (and I've seen my share). Since when Hollywood is "not contaminated", as he/she puts it? (that considering the blend of cultures a bad thing). And I'm sure that Ryan, as outspoken about civil rights as he was, would have loved to hear that racial slur. Please, pay no mind to "people" like this. Keep uploading your wonderful montages! :)
By the way, Lizzy, have you read Franklin Jarlett's biography of Robert Ryan? I haven't been able to get it yet, but I am looking forward to reading it!
Lizzy, it's always a pleasure to find another Robert Ryan appreciator! I discovered him in Nicholas Ray's On Dangerous Grounds and since then I've been madly in love with him! It makes me sad that he's underrated. I honestly think he had a rough magnetism that made him special.
Hi Lizzy.I must congratulate you on this wonderful collection of clips. And thank you for introducing my lugs to Andre Williams. And Kris Jensens heartbreaking `Torture`.Wonderful.Its Mick by the way,him whose Sparks baton fell after four memorable gigs...
Hey Mick, thanks! Andre is just the coolest - 'Agile, Mobile and Hostile' suits Robert Ryan's boxing in The Set-Up to a T. As for Kris Jensen's 'Torture', it is indeed heartbreaking as are Gary Cooper's good looks.
Ditto V.C.! I've only seen the stills that you posted; this is the first time I've gotten a glimpse of R.R. in the ring! Be still my heart!! Tnx Lizzy.

One Robert Ryan's best. Another great one is "On Dangerous Ground". A great actor who is now forgotten.
