  • sang this with my high school choir! love this piece

  • I'm actually sining this requiem with my high school choir! So awesome music!

  • I can't wait to sing this in New york in May!! Even in class we all get so moved by it :)

  • Singing this at Carnegie back in March was... bone-chillingly awesome.

  • best song of the requiem i love it! i was very lucky to sing in new york with john rutter conducting us in new york in june 2010, it was a breathtaking experience

  • It's the men singing those triplets against the S/A's "in the midst of Life" that makes this piece, that and the timpani.

  • This is definitely one of the best recordings of the Requiem out there (if not THE best!). I own three. :) Beautiful!

  • Extraordinarily moving. Intimate, yet powerful. Thanks for posting!

  • You're more than welcome!

  • The Rutter Requiem is my third favorite piece, surpassed only by Epitaph for Moonlight by R. Murray Shaffer and Orff's Carmina Burana. I was fortunate enough to be able to perform this at Carnegie Hall.

  • In May of 2008? I sang there too!

  • Wow! Sweet, which section were you in?

  • I was a Soprano II. I was part of the only high school choir in the whole group.

  • I confess myself jealous. :)

  • I conducted this for my conducting class! It was difficult, but really amazing to conduct!

  • our church choir just did this AWESOME requiem last Sunday for the community. It was a wonderful testament of God's gift of talent/creativity to Mr. Rutter and for our choir director's confidence in us. Thanks, to all!

  • Im meeting John Rutter next friday for a masterclass. I am so excited :)

  • Beautiful!

  • I was lucky enough to get to sing the Rutter Requiem at a John Rutter festival at the Mormon Tabernacle back in 2002. It was a beautiful piece of music. Somehow I lost the recording, but it was probably the most amazing singing experience I have ever had. I love 3:45 and it is most definitely my favorite part to sing. Nice to hear it again!

  • Beautiful!

Can you post the other parts of the requiem too?

  • Sure! :) I can't give you a set time on when I'll be able to post them but I would be happy to nonetheless.

  • "In the midst of life...we are in death" god this is a dark song, but captivating.

  • A little too much vibrato from the women, but overall, a great recording. Such an awesome and awe inspiring piece. Rutter was amazing!

  • oooh... spinetingling. i love rutter. we're singing this at my school and i love singing it so much! love the picardy's 3rd.

  • loved it btw!

  • Angus Dei, Angus Dei, Que tolis Pecata, Pecatta Mundi, Dona es Requiem!

Man that is born of a woman, hath but a short time to live...and is full of misery! HE COMMETH UP AND IS CUT DOWN LIKE A FLOWER! he fleeth as it were a shadow!

  • Is that meant to be a translation? If it is, it's wrong...

  • did you listen to the entire song? I bet your didnt ;)

  • Actually, I did.

  • My choir just performed this and The Lord Is My Shepherd for a choir tour, among other songs. "I am the resurrection and the light" brings tears to my eyes while I'm singing even after 8 times of performing it and countless rehearsals. It is such a powerful and amazing message and song.

  • whom may we seek for succour

  • The Rutter Requiem is truly amazing. Good recording, but I much prefer the King's College choir version I think is better. Not that this is bad AT ALL. I just prefer the treble voices(boy) to the soprano voices.
