This definitely covers the basics, but if you don't have a vice, or if you're looking for benchrest accuracy, it would be wiser to adjust based on 3-5 shot groups rather than single shots.
If you have a buddy with ya take a shot at target using a steady rest then realign the crosshairs to center adjust the scope to the last shot without moving rifle then take another shot at center should be dead on .
Isn't it easier to sight a rifle in with a laser cartridge?

I dust my scope rings with a fine powder of rosin before setting the scope in place. It keeps the scope in place even with the heaviest recoil.

@hunt458 You can put the rosin on the scope screws to keep them tight too.
