water is around 50-55 in the winter..and never gets over 70 in the summer…cold in the winter…foggy most of the day…not at all tropcal like florida. but…still the best place to live in the US if you can afford it…Florida is second choice….but muggy humidity...

@AwkwardDodd Get a good paying job (>$55,000 depending on where you want to live), you'll have to live in an apartment for a while. The closer you are to the beach, the more expensive (avg. in Santa Monica is between $1-$2 million). If you want to live in a decent neighborhood, you have to get a plan, some cash up front, and a good paying job. If you do those, then SoCal is the best place to be. I can't wait to move to Long Beach after high school, going to a flight school there.

Santa Monica is beautiful. Gorgeous weather all year round. Beautiful beaches, shopping, restaurants and people. I miss California so much now that I live in Las Vegas. Las Vegas sucks!

That's one of the only bad sides of living in Santa Monica, all the homeless. Shame to admit but they become invisible after a while. You feel for them but there's nothing one person can do to chang it. Can't blame them though, I'd come here too if I were down on my luck or psychologically inept. In many ways it's more of a paradise than Hawaii (when you factor in the natural beauty, city ammenities, social programs, diversity, etc...)

Hi, thanks - I visited Santa Monica as a tourist. I think you can swim all year long. However the pacific ocean in not pretty warm.

What do you mean by very hot? Maybe if you're from Finland but otherwise even when it's hot it's only maybe in the 80's, 90's tops and that's rare. The ocean temp is alway pretty cold but you can acclomate after a few minutes in autumn.

the water is almost always cold. Even in the summer time it's about 60-70 degrees. Once you're in it's fine though.
