  • Jet: Framus bass; Tony: Ajax drum kit. What are Hank & Bruce playing?

  • Lol i just came from Eddy Cochran and heard the exactly same screamin at the start

    /watch?v=ckfReOHJing&feature=related

  • There were 200 invited fans during the recording of this album recorded on januari 9th and tenth of 1959

  • esta version es de CLIFF RICHARD acompañado de los SHADOWS,la version de los shadows es otra.

  • Interesting curiosity number.... Hank - minus twang - sounds pretty good before he got his Strat and was for ever fiddling with whammy bar.... I believe the guitar he has here is an old Antoria - probably made by Ibanez and probably worth a fortune now.

  • i like the shads but they could have given the gene vincent (or everly brothers') version a cursory listen just to get the words right ("my baby love" indeed!)

  • @norristerse artistic licence...?!

  • @SirBasildeBrush

    yeah, fair enough!

  • la version de los shadows es otra ,esta es la version de cliff con los shadows

  • Hi Super super,pozdrawiam Roman:):) (Poland) :):):):)

  • From Cliff Richard's first LP, CLIFF, recorded live in front of just a few dozens of fans. The first LP I bought in my teens, along with CONWAY TWITTY'S GREATEST HITS!

  • @ENACODNOM Good choices!

  • hey we brits could always rock as well as anyone.

Besides werent these guys from Newcastle on tyne?

that makes them pretty local to me

Us Northerners have to stick together yaknow

  • @marcoftheshaw That could explain why my father's friend had them stay at her B&B in Sunderland before they were famous. She said they were "noisy".

  • Yeah...very rockin...love this sound!

beautiful pics for a great song!

    thank you very much

  • @Pedy1968 Glad you liked.

  • im english and i prefer gene vincents version but this is pretty good

  • Early sixties, we had a radioprogram with the top 20 charts.Beginning of the program was always that same girls screaming , they used it also between two songs from time to time , maybe to wake up our parents who did a nap in the room besides.

  • Very well-behaved screaming on this one, never over the song.

  • What a great version and nice to hear all the original shadows playing together .. "tony meehan drums" & "Jet Harris Bass"

  • sounds live to me, its at a concert somewhere, on The Shadows EP collection, number 1 this, Driftin and Jet Black are on it - Live, I reckon its the same concert

  • This was recorded at EMI Studios [Abbey Road] in 1959, live and in front of an invited audience as part of Cliff's first LP.

  • Well, I'll just pretend it's called "Rockabilly-a-Lula" and keep on preferring Gene Vincent.

  • also on Cliff's 1st[59] LP but no credit to Cliff only the Drifters.i'll go on the Cliff official site and ask on the forums.thanks for posting.

  • i don't think Cliff is singing on this.i have ALL the Shadows[Drifters] records.i really cant HEAR Cliff on this.of course i could be wrong!

  • Cliff isn't singing on this. It's the session recorded for his first [live] LP and on the day, Cliff had a sore throat. This song was included so as to give Cliff''s throat a rest.

  • You must all be Brits to prefer THIS to Gene Vincent's version....its just a little better than the lame Everly bros version though

  • Ummm,,,,sorry, no offense intended, I simply meant that the British are a lot fonder of Cliff Richard and the Shadows than we are on this side of the pond, ^_^'

  • I'm keeping out of the arguement....

  • Cliff is not mentioned, but it sounds like him there.

  • Not mentioned in the credits, but you can almost hear the curl of his 'Elvis lip'.

  • Great rendition, and I agree with Wayne this surpasses the original.

  • Looks like Gene's taking a hammering on this one. But then again, he did co-write it.

  • Sir - Excellent! I'm backing both LaVerne and Leyburn up that this is better than the American version. I think it's more "beboppy" (I'm sure you won't find this word in the Webster's Dictionary). Keep finding the great music!

  • once again...the British version surpasses the original...let's see if I can get away with that comment...

    Charles Cogan

    ;)

  • of course you can I'm backing you .lol

  • I agree with you LaVerne. This is more beboppy than the American version - it's fabulous!

  • Hey, Sir B., this really rocks! Great tune, 5*****. Thanks much for posting!

  • I'm trying to remember which was the first Cliff number that the Shadows actually sang on. I think it was On The Beach. Anyone know any different?

  • @hrpman Willie And The Hand Jive????

  • possibly ....

  • Yes, surprisingly good.

  • V Good version
