  • The best interpreter of Rachmaninoff (and many other composers)

  • frufruJ: thank you for posting this most beautiful song. Too short yet saying so much.

  • Actaually, the pianist's right name is Ivari Ilja, not Ilya

  • Depends on the way you transcribe it to English - as "j" is often read as "дж" in English.

  • Fantastic! I really need this song's sheet music as sung by Dmitri (I believe in D Flat). If anyone can scan it and send it please PM me.

  • The original sheet music is on imslp. I believe DH transposed it two semitones down, both here and at the other concert (1990). I may be wrong, though... Anybody more sure?

  • *An octave* AND two semitones, of course :-)

  • @frufruJ Written "for Tenor" according to Rachmaninoff. Not that it matters much, but it was not a specifically somprano song.

  • just one word....Fantastic!!!

  • Unbelievably beautiful frufruJ, music and singing ! Thx a lot!

Dmitri Hvorostovsky is the Fischer-Dieskau of the russian lieder! Both great great great baritones needs that their legacy be preserved for the benefit of mankind. I always say: Hvorostovsky is greater than we can now realize---KRegards---Luiz Augusto
