okay I've been reading a lot of comments about vibrato and here's my two cents on the topic. Vibrato, when you first start, it's a tad difficult since you don't know the amount of pressure you have to press onto the strings along with "moving the hand" as someone else said. As you progress with the skill, it becomes easier to do. I've been playing violin for about 6 years now and I'll tell you that vibrato is an acquired skill, but not hard to master.

I disagree with Dragun, I would not say Vibrato is very advanced, I'm a cellist but ym proposition is made based on the violinst in my orchestra, who all confirm they vibrato two to three years into mastering thier instrument.

If you're new to strings you think vibrato is easy, because it's just moving the hands. But it's hard, you do stuff like pushing down, and it stops all vibration, causing the sound to cease. Which is why, as xshdwdragunx said, `its a very advanced skill' But if you learn it before anything else, you'll be a genius in exams, being able to perform vibrato, but not play most of the notes. But that's kinda silly, so you should probably stick with learning to play the notes, and reading them.
