I wish my High School offered Japanese. We only got French, Latin, and Spanish. Chinese came in around my senior year. I took French for 3 years (plus some in Middle School).
It is - when you finnally match the romanji to the katana. But, as an added bonus, you'd be able to understand your favorite animes without subtitles or dubs.
Dang, i really want to be in french. I'm in spanish right now, i love it, but french sounds to much better! Though spanish will help me with careers and stuff.
what about people that hate all americans for no reason? maybe they could also try seeing things from other perspectives! people need to realize that americans do not make the decisions to go to war or to act like the police of the world. they need to ask themselves, do i tell my countries leader what to do? maybe americans do not either! hey, what a concept!!!
binhatin, I don't hate Americans and I didn't indicate that I hate them. I simply observed that learning a foreign language or two widens one's view of the world and that most Americans need that wider perspective. As for government, the American government was designed to be responsive to the will of "we, the people." Americans SHOULD tell their leaders what to do. I was teargassed and beaten in the '60s and '70s for doing that very thing. And we stopped the war in Viet Nam!
you didn't stop shit if they would have wanted to stay over there for a hundred years they would have. we've been in korea over 50. be real, that tear gas must have got into your brain.
this is not a personal attack against you guy, i appologize. i am just trying to say that the government doesn't care about the will of the people. they never have. we are nothing to them.
i am a rational, logical thinker. in my opinion, it's not very logical to think that we were created by some supreme force in heaven watching our every move and putting us on the naughty list like santa claus.
I'm soooo happy someone decided to start something like this, it's amazing. &&For those of you that are like "OOH I FALED SPANISH WIT A FOR" It's because you didn't try, I have the worst German teacher and I'm learning it fluently, shut up and listen, c'est tout. =]
well, i think this was targeted towards elementary/middle school kids. and at that age (in america these days) they are widely succumbed to the stereo-types seen in this ad in many famous television broadcast. so they had to represent them somehow to where the kids would get it.
So you're saying it's OK that they're reinforcing stereotypes because otherwise kids won't understand? I would think ad execs would be paid better money for their creativity than that. The real travesty here is that the stereotypes are being perpetuated by teaching them to young people.
I live in america also[florida], i'm not saying that its ok. I am just trying to tell you "why" its made this way. I'm against stereotypes by all means. I mean, "hopefully" kids see through the stereotypes.
Hopefully they do. And why wouldn't kids of all people be able to see past stereotypes? They have their vast life experience and myriad encounters with different points of view to arm them with open minds and critical thinking, can see past shallowness and lazy thought straight to the heart of matters of importance. Which is why people make PSA's to teach them about life.
LOL, german would be like some dude in those odd green overalls. anyways, this is really really reacist. i love the all of em speak spanish, except him, he german.

The best part of learning a foreign language
is that it makes you aware of other perspectives,
other ways of viewing the world.
Something Americans need very badly!
Then the college courses can actually do you some good.

Accepted.
No, the government does NOT care about the will of the people.
It ought to, though.
It was designed to do so.
And if the people exert enough pressure
(eg, hit gov't in the pocket book)
I believe they CAN influence gov't.
But then I believed in the Christian God for 50 years, too...

I am disappointed that the Ad Council would fall back on ridiculous ethnic stereotypes in order to get their message across.
