why when you see a bass player just want to hear groove ....
im not saying that jeff berlin dont have groove but he plays this song really perfect and the style of improvisation ... its just one step under perfect ...
please i love the groove but this a arrengement about bach ....
I have the original bass-notes of this song and tried to play it. The probleme of the intro are the 16th, if you are in one or two notes to late, the hole song sounds shit! And to improvise over the coda like Jeff is not easy to possible. I have heard him very often live, and I remember my musicteacher: it is not a problem to play one or two wrong notes, the genius is to came out of this problem! And he is in this way a genius. He and the fretboard is one!
what a great bass player he is! for some reason though i just wanna punch him in the face. espeically when he jumps up and down at the end. what a awsome bass player he is though.basterd!
Good but stagnant, like much of Berlin's stuff, technically impressive but very flat sounding. Why can't he play a groove that feels nice? Listen to the bass under the piano solo, it sounds nasty. I'd wager that if he were alive Bach would fuckin hate this!
For new arrangements of Bach, The Jacques Loussiere Trio is much more refined, and the bass player can play awesome grooves and lines that do not sound strained or robotic.
@steweDbass You people who love to bash Jeff really need a life already. It's just a jam in a studio. Unless you know the 5 or so great records that has played on, you shouldn't be making such an uninformed statement. Jeff is in a league of his own on the bass.
More disrespectful comments left by idiots. The drummer is the great Danny Gottlieb, who sounds just fine here (certainly better than any of you). On piano is Richard Drexler. All Florida residents and educators as well.
rockin the classical world!yeah!

People, get a life - this is a hell of a lot of fun, and if you understood what was happening here, you would just enjoy it for what it is!

This may be Bach but that doesn't make this arrangement a classic.

You should seen Vinnie play it with Jeff, Scott Henderson and Larry Willams back in 82. He grooved the crap out of it.

yeah... that's what you get with a white drummer...
steyrcaephus 4 years ago
exactly, he should have gotten Jeff Porcaro or Bill Bruford
GaryNull 4 years ago
@GaryNull
he played with chad wackerman on Allan Holdsworth's Road Games. It was only that one time, but they sound fuckin amazing together!
cciemail 10 months ago
@cciemail I saw Jeff on that "tour" with Allan and Chad.
I recommend you get the first 3 Bill Bruford solo albums. Jeff's playing there is absolutely
amazing, and the music is fantastic as well (Holdsworth plays on 2 of them).
You will need to play these albums over and over before you can really "get into it".
I remember I had to do that when I first bought them back around 1979. I had to
play them over and over. They are still my favorites to this day.
