  • Thank you sir they replaced it for me went out today 400 rounds seems to be running great now

  • @gunblastdotcom I just got a sr22 and the trigger is broke after one pull took it apart and it seems to not be connected to anything what's you're opinion sir thank you and have a great day

  • Without looking at it, I have no idea. Make sure the safety is in the fire position, cycle the slide, and make sure that the magazine in in place. if it still does not work, take it back to where you bought it.

    Jeff

  • If this could be used as a suppressor host my p22q would be up for sale on gun broker right now. I brought my p22q to the range for the 3rd time yesterday for my birthday and the front sight popped out on the 2nd mag. tisk tisk. The good news is I looked through the bag of stuff walther gives you with the gun and it had a extra sight in it. You figure if they know this is a problem then they would fix it instead of try and give you another sight bcuz its just gonna happen again.

  • I'm glad that you reviewed this handgun. I have been shopping for a simple/inexpensive handgun that I feel comfortable leaving with my wife. Your demo was perfect! Thanks!

  • It looks TINY in your hands.

  • Hope to pick one up today! 45, 380, n 9mm hurting my wallet! :D

  • Another quality product from RUGER!

I agree, it fires everything on the market from cheap to high end ammo!

They should of made it a 4 inch barrel, would look more proportional.

My friend loves it, he lightly polish the feed ramp, making it feed better..

    Great video!

  • I've run 700+ rounds through mine and only have had 4 fail to fires due to the rounds being a bit crooked in the magazine probably from loading it to fast(back end of the round too low so the feed bar didn't catch the bullet). Fun gun.

  • I like the .22LR ammo. It's cheap and almost no backlash means it is super accurate.

However when I loan .22 pistols even a .22 rifle at the firing range they jam all the time! Is this because of the caliber, or does it have more to do with the guns at the range?

I'm thinking my first gun should be a .22 magnum instead, hoping that one is more reliable, but a lot more expensive ammo!

Please reply to this post so I get your answer, appreciate your help.

  • The firearm is only part of the system. The ammo is just as important. You must use quality ammunition with most handguns.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom I was using 22LR CCI Small Game 40gr. Lead Flat Nose Ammo.

The guns were oiled up quite a bit. I think there may have been too much oil on them. They failed every 2 or 3 shots. It's a quality shooting range, so the guns should have been fine.

I was just curious if this is a .22 LR related issue, but it looks like it isn't. I want to get a .22 LR for home defense purpose as well, should I go for .22 magnum instead?

  • 22 magnum is definitely better. I recommend the Kel-Tec PMR-30.

    Jeff

  • Hey Jeff, how do you think this would serve as a concealed carry handgun?

  • Not as good as a 12 gauge, but hides a lot easier. Affords lots of cheap practice, which improves hit probability.

    Jeff

  • love .22 pistols. unfortunatly i live in canada and the gun laws suck up here as well as most things, except the free health care. great review!!!

  • bought one today and it looks and fells really nice. havent fired it yet, but it seems like i wont have any problems.

  • Jeff,Don't tell my wife I'm watching your video's !!!! She says you "MAKE ME" spend too much money ..... great job Thanks !

  • Hey Jeff, love your reviews, and love your beard.

I'm looking to buy my first gun, and want to put out a lot of lead to practice. I figured the SR22 is a good choice for learning how to shoot properly. It seems rugged, and .22 ammo is cheap. A side bonus is, my girlfriend can learn to shoot with me. What are your thoughts?

  • Excellent choice. I always recommend a good 22 for starting out, but beyond that, a 22 never loses its usefulness and fun.

  • @facades86 I'll chime in; take it for what its worth. I think that is a stellar idea, I decided to "learn" on a USP45. Long story short I had to unlearn my bad habits from a high caliber round and re-learn with a 22LR. The 22LR really helped me though, easy to handle...and the price of rounds. You can shoot from sun up to sun down with the 22. Best of luck to you and your girlfriend! Safe shooting!

Also, nice video! I saw this pistol at the shop today...doing my homework on it!

  • Just bought one today. Can't wait to take it to the range.

  • Red loctight 271 Jeff blue comes loose. Gotta use red. Harder to break loose.

  • The blue will hold just fine, and allows removal when necessary.

    Jeff

  • i really like ruger pistols and this is just another great addition to the list. great review.

  • Awesome! I just learned what to do with the pad lock.

  • hey jeff how much are them sr22's

  • MSRP is $399, actual price will vary.

  • @Gunblastdotcom I'm buying this pistol. I put some money down on one because they still don't have it in stock. But i'm getting it for $320 plus tax.. That seems to be about the avg. price for this gun.. Great video!

  • not sure if i want to sell my markIII for this yet... yet...

  • I didn't!

  • Much better review than Nutnfancy. Keep up the Great Work Jeff!

  • GREAT review Jeff, going to get me one soon.

  • Sorry the audio sucks.

  • Hey Jeff made video look at it. You see what problem I had. Its under Rugers new sr22. By coolestrenoguy.cause that's who I am.Reno's coolest Guy.

  • Walther p22 is cooler looking

  • Just checked with my local gun retailer. They have these SR22's for $299, and the LCP's for only $269. Since I already have a Taurus TCP in .380, I'm looking to get a .22, this may be the one i grab.

  • I'm gonna post video of my problems with the sr22 soon.and what I did to fix. Cause was easy fix. Slide is smooth as butter now. Thanks for feedback. All your videos are awesome.

  • That's interesting. Cause sold out in Reno too. Have waiting list now here too. I got mine just in time. Keltec pmr30 22 pistol.u tried at factory is 15 people deep waiting list.

  • Bowhunter Guy. I was one who had issues. After some elbow greese and time. The Ruger sr22 is nice. Shoots federal bulk ammo. I will post video of issues tomorrow. How to fix.

  • I want this gun!

  • Hey Jeff I like the review you've done on this pistol. I love to shoot handguns but my springfield xdm 40 is a bit to pricey to shoot and I'd like to pick up a .22 and Saw this pistol. I've seen a few comments about people saying the barrel loosened up. Have you had this issue at all? A local dealer told me he has 15 of these coming in in the next few weeks so im hoping to get my hands on one and hope it is as good as everyone says it is and hopefully do not get stuck with a faulty one.

  • The barrel is retained by a screw. Mine has not loosened at all, but screws do loosen on firearms, so it is always a good idea to check them. If concerned, a drop of blue LocTite on the threads will prevent loosening on most any gun screw.

    Jeff

  • Reno gunshops are way overpriced. That Kel tec pmr30 22 pistol. You tried at factory. 500 and waiting list. What can you do though.

  • Or they shoulda gave you couple for your 5/5 review. Sold me on one.

  • Out of pure curiosity there Mr. Jeff. Why would you ask if I wanted to sell my Ruger? You probably got couple free from Ruger.plus I overpaid.

  • I get nothing free from Ruger. I have bought every Ruger that I own. Lots of folks are looking to buy an SR22 right now.

    jeff

  • I used my three ruger locks, I got for my work shop, tool shed, and my hog house gates doors, they work really great I shot one why I only have three left, to see how well it would hold up before I put it on the hog house gate. I swung an ax on the hasp, basically I torture test the lock, It worked even after all that, so I got it put up! They seem to be built like a tank, just like the guns!

  • Hey jeff, love your reviews. I'm looking to get a 22auto for plinking and just fun, next weekend at a gun show. Ive been on the fence between the ruger, walther, and m&p22. For you, has one been more reliable than the other, or more accurate? I dont have anyone locally that has one to get my hands on to really get a idea beyond gun shows. I know how it feels to me ultimately will be the decider. I am comfortable with m&p, have 2, 40 and 45. Just wanted info from someone who has exp with them.

  • In my experience, and based upon email feedback from readers, the walther is a bit picky about ammo. The Ruger and S&W have worked flawlessly so far.

    jeff

  • @ghost101407 Take a look at the S&W 22A. They come in 4, 5 1/2 and 7 inch barrels.

Exceptional value for money at around $265. Comes with 2 10 rd magazines. Shoots just as well as my Ruger 22 pistols, and much easier to strip and clean than them. Have fun.

  • No . Now its like one in video cycles whatever and barrel stays tight . Real fun to shoot. Wish I hadn't had issue. But gunshop made money I paid 434.00 out door. I overpaid. Wanted that model.

  • Your a funny Guy Mister. If weren't for u I'd probably be stuck with a walther. Now that I fixed sr22 Im happy camper. You take care and keep on keeping on.

  • I mean don't get me wrong i like this gun just Rugers quality inspector was lazy like obama the day mine was made. Now mine operates perfectly.

  • Obama's not lazy. He's working hard to destroy us.

  • I did just that Ruger said use 271 red locktight on threads. And sorry I had to spend hours polishing underslide. That was it.sorry from some lady. At Sturm Ruger customer service.

  • I want everyone to know cause for Ruger that's BS. Maybe for hipoint. But I'd expect better from Ruger.

  • @coolestrenoguy

You should get in contact with Ruger customer service. Looks like you got a lemon.

My SR22 cycled the cheapest of the cheap ammo (Federal Bulk) with no problems right out of the box. Also, I fired a total of about 700 rounds of a variety of ammo types on my first range trip without cleaning and without a single hiccup. Barrel definitely did not come loose, either. Gets a 5/5 from me.

  • Do you want to sell it?

    Jeff

  • And I had to spend 4 hours with Emery cloth. A super fine grit. On slide and hammer to smoothen down so it would cycle cheap ammo.

  • I am from Reno. Watched your video. Then bought sr22. Rugers new pistol. After 150 rounds my barrel screw came loose. Not cool.

  • Sounds like a Walther P22 upgrade. I Like the safety, you don't get the threaded barrel, but the ammo report is great. Walther P22 doesn't take everything.

  • Can't wait to try one of these .22 pistols for myself...

    Nice review, Jeff!

  • Great use of all the gun locks you end up with, locking gates! :-) If they'd all use the same key, I'd have nothing but gun locks around the barn and place, too. Dead giveaway you're approaching the abode of a true gun nut if all the gate locks have Ruger or Smith & Wesson on them. :-) I love that.

  • Looks like they upgraded the manual slide safety, I hope they transfer this to the other SR pistols. This is one reason I am holding off buying a Ruger SR 40. Thanks for the great video!

  • eh i honestly have to say that i dont really like it, it would be cooler if it still had that original SR design/ look. And 10 Rounds!!! my SR9 can hold more then that!!

  • Good review. Based on your review I went with a friend and they purchased one of these. Thanks again for an excellant review. I am subscribing.

  • Is that a new hat? I like it. The Ruger is awesome too. If it can chew up all 22 ammo like you say, it is a winner!

  • Wow, very nice .22LR Pistol! I like the way it looks, works, and the wide variety of .22LR it eats, which is important. I also like the barrel's width and the fixed design. And the SA/DA/trigger action. Well gosh everything about it seems perfect.

The SR22 looks like a winner. This is the most modern .22LR pistol I know of. The biggest deal is the large variety of .22LR ammo it supposedly uses. I hear a lot of other .22LR pistols are very picky. I'm in love <3 <3 <3

  • Love the pistol, I think it is a great way to train for the P-Series or to introduce a new shooter to a combat style pistol.

I did a quick video on my page comparing it to the P-Series, check it out!

  • Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the review. I've decided to get this for my girlfriend for her first handgun because of your video. We appreciate the help.

  • Excellent review and video. I think that you might be the only source that informs us how many magazines come packaged with this new pistol (including Ruger!). I enjoyed your thorough and careful approach, you really cover all the bases. Thank you.

    Chris

  • does shannon hayes have his own channel? really like the music!!

  • No, he doesn't, nor does he have a web site. He recorded one CD about ten years ago, "The Gateway", which won an Indie award for the best independently-produced project of the year. The CD is now out-of-print, but you can contact my brother Boge for more info - boge@gunblast.com.

  • @Gunblastdotcom will have to do that then!!

  • Jeff - what do you prefer - Ruger SR22 or MP 22 that you just reviewed....and for that matter the Walther P22?

  • I find that the Walther is a bit finicky on ammo. Of the other two, I like both really well, but prefer the size and weight of the Ruger.

    jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Hi great videos. I have two questions I am new with rimfires guns .22 cal and I want to be sure about: 1. This Ruger has a security system that the pistol can not being shoot for accident like if it drooped to the floor (I know that Glock have that security??? 2. This .22cal with this gun, can it kill a human being with only one Headshot??? Thanks.

  • 1) Yes, it has an internal safety.

    2) Yes, a 22 to the head has killed many people. However, no matter what the caliber or weapon used, if you are ever forced to shoot someone, keep shooting until the threat is over, or you are out of ammo.

    Jeff

  • I was wondering if you get any hammer bite from it? It looks like would.

  • None at all.

    Jeff

  • Jeff, I know you are fond of the Bersa 22 also. How does this gun compare to the Bersa? I have the Bersa and love it. Just wondering your thoughts between to two of them, although i am sure I will buy one of these too, just because:)

  • I like both very much. Thay are different. I don't see any reason to make a choice. I really like both, as well as the S&W M&P-22 that I have been shooting this week. I love rimfire pistols!

    Jeff

  • SR 22? Not even close,Ruger could have made it stryker fire at least. S&W got it right with their M&P 22.

  • @Mr1gun The Smith & Wesson M&P 22 pistol is hammer-fired.

  • @pcnotpc59 well it looks just like it's namesake and the hammer is inside,to make it more like your larger cal. M&P. I kinda think that is what Ruger had in mind. Why else mess with a .22, when they have some of the best.22s around. Mark 2,3,and 22/45

Ruger should be working on a LC9 with out all them damm safties, for the other 45 or so states where you can own a handgun with out a Lawyer holding your hand.

  • Looks good. I am a big Ruger Mark III fan. Amazing accuracy. I think I will get one for my daughter for her birthday.

  • All the gates around here have Ruger padlocks on em lol, love it

  • are there night sights for this gun?

  • I know of none specifically, but there are probably some that would work.

    Jeff

  • Jeff, your reviews are consistently outstanding. Precise, direct, informative, and to the point. Thank you for the work you do.

  • Jeff, Thank you, for another great video. I do have one question for you regarding this new Ruger pistol. Do you know what material the slide is manufactured from? The reason I ask is because I recently read that Walther's .22 has a slide that is made of zinc. And there was some negative comments made about the Walther for that reason. Thank you, in advance, for your reply.

  • Covered in the text review, but the slide is aluminum with a steel insert.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom My apologies for not seeing that. Thank you.

  • I have been looking for a god fun 22lr pistol, Once again ruger has done a great job. I hope to add this to the collection this year

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I now know what to do with all the padlocks that I've collected. Out of disgust for dumb gun laws I used to just throw them in a box and wish they'd disappear.

On a different note, great analysis. Love the idea that it will shoot even the cheap ammo. Looks like I found my daughter's first pistol.

  • Got this @ the gun show 299.99 + tax

  • Checked with my LGS. The gun should cost around $310.00.

Now that is if you can find one...

  • How much does it cost?

  • Very impressive! Think my mark III would be jelly...

  • Ruger will take over the world!

  • if it had an extended barrel kit likr the p22 it would be great

  • Word of caution: your hand could get pinched at the ejection port of the gun if you rack the slide the way he shows in the video. Great vid as always

  • No danger of getting pinched if done correctly.

    jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom

I notice that you're left handed, so that may never be a problem. But for right handers who rack the slide with their left hands, its much easier to occur. Don't ask me how i know this : )

Just be mindful to keep your finger away from the ejection port if you're right handed

  • If you push the slide to the rear, and then release the slide, you will not get pinched. If you keep your hand on the slide as it closes, you might get pinched, and are also probably going to cause a failure to feed. The slide should always be allowed to slam home, just like when it is fired.

    Jeff

  • hey jeff love your vids i have a question. i shoot competitions (recently shot my first one) with my 10/22 w/ tactical stock they have competitions for rimfire rifle/pistol where i go, would this be accurate 25 yards in or should i go with a classic 22/45 or mk III what do you suggest?

  • For competition, I would prefer the heavier weight of the Mark III.

    Jeff

  • Now, if I can only find one.........just like that elusive SR1911!!!

  • does it use the mark clips?

  • No.

  • Nice looking pistol!

  • ruger has class and their products are cheap. excellent company.

  • subscribing to your channel. I have an SR9, a friend has the SR9c.. this SR22 looks like the 9c. i like it.

  • wow! what is up with ruger? they are making some cool stuff nice I like it!

  • @IndicaPro I believe the slide is made of anodized aluminum and not stainless, still better than zinc alloy for sure.

  • I'm loving the looks of this pistol but am still torn on the safety. Ruger's response to criticism has been that "up for fire, down for safe" worked on their old P-series so it should work on this, but didn't say WHY they chose to model the safety position off the old P-series and not the newer SR-series.

I guess they think a frame-mounted safety is the same as a slide-mounted one...

  • Can't wait to get it

  • that is nice

  • Half the reason I watch these reviews is for the music... heh.

  • I found your review and approach to be most informative and helpful. "Thank You". A. D. Malloy

  • lol i do the same thing with all the free padlocks i get with the pistols! all my shed and garage locks are all rugers

  • While it is a Ruger SR, this .22 is IMO not truly a follow on in the series from the SR9 & SR40 since it is DA/SA. Most probably won't care, but I think I'll stay with the Mk3 22/45 series. But I certainly can't knock the SR22, either. I'd have figured the cost would be higher than the 22/45, but no, it is right in the neighborhood where it ought to be. Thanks for the very good review (as usual), Jeff.

  • Wow, in addition to ripping off Kel-Tec P3AT, Ruger appears to now be ripping off Walther P22.

Let's hope they make better versions of both guns than the originals! :-)

  • The design is not like the Walther.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom I dunno Jeff, the safety system is different & quality of construction appears better but it sure does mirror the Walther P22 in a lot of ways,,,only better!

  • @onmilo actually it is nothing like the Walther P22 thank goodness. From everything I can tell, it actually works and is reliable. It looks easy to clean as well. I'll have to pick one of these up when they are available here in my commie state.

  • Do you think a Mark 4 will come out soon??? have you heard anything?

  • I have heard nothing on that at all.

    Jeff

  • I had a chance to shoot an early preproduction SR22 Pistol and a Walther P22 side by side. There is no comparison. In my opinion the Ruger is much better.

  • Thanks for great videos as always. I was going to get the walther for plinking but now ruger all the way!

  • I see we both use the Ruger pad locks for the same purpose. Great for shed doors, gates, etc.

  • I bet your 7 year old grandson had a blast with this one!

  • Great video as usual. I was happy and angry when I saw this video. I was just about to go out tomorrow and pick up either a Sig Mosquito or the Walther P22. Now that I see this vid im not so sure I want either of those other guns.

Can you tell me your preferance between those three guns and I am also wondering how many rounds you figure you have put through this gun and is it still trouble free? Thanks.

  • Still trouble free. I would just be guessing on the round count, but up to a few hundred now. Of the three, I prefer this new Ruger.

    jeff

  • Looks like a ca compliant pistol

  • has a mag disconect does it have a LCI too?

  • Looks like a marriage of the Ruger SR and P semi-auto families.

  • Does Ruger have plans for a threaded barrel variant?

  • Yes, and also to sell the threaded barrel as an accessory.

    jeff

  • How does it compare to the S&W M&P 22 pistol?

    thanks for the review.

  • I have not yet got my hands on the M&P.

    Jeff

  • The safety is backwards like a Walther or Beretta 92. Why did Ruger do this, I won't buy one now just because of that.

  • Looks a lot like the Walther. Nice review.

  • Too bad the safety is backwards.

  • @MisterSithy I agree, why change the standard procedure. 1911 safety push down, SR9 push down, LC9 push down ............. I told my wife when she started handling guns that to get the safety off you "push down" just like turning off a light switch. I won't buy one now just because of that.

  • Neat video, neat hat, and I have a Carhart coat I use in the horse paddock and I think you have the same one. In the spitting snow yesterday it made all the difference. I have enjoyed my Sig Sauer 22 LR 1911 with ten shots recently. My Mark III Ruger is great to shoot, and hard to clean.

  • Why doesn't anyone make a striker-fired .22lr That would be SOO nice for cheap training.

  • Ruger really knows how to make semi-auto .22s. Most semi-auto .22s have trouble with the cheap ammo, but most from Ruger do not mind the cheap stuff at all.

  • Holy smokes, that's great accuracy for rapid fire. Darn, yet another gun to add to my wish list! Thanks for the review, it was great and I love the hat sir! =D

  • Ruger STILL the king of 22LR pistols!

  • I love my walther p22, it looks very similar to it.

  • Anyone who thinks that a semi auto 22 isn't deadly enough needs to research the VA Tech Shooting.

  • I like your philosophy on ruger padlocks.

  • awesome review as always I find that your reviews are the most fun to watch and the most informative. Thank you again for your excellent work

  • Damn another 22 from Ruger? I still have not saved and bought the last 2 that I lust after. Hey Jeff what about break down cleaning and reasembly? Seems like that needs mention, given the rep Ruger has on the Mark I II and III 22s. Thx 4 review. I look forward to the next new Ruger. LOL

  • It's quick and easy to strip for cleaning and maintenance. I love the old Ruger 22s, but that is a shortcoming. Please see the referenced review for more info.

  • I wonder if this is a sign of things to come from Ruger. Wonder if their compacts and full sized pistols will have this same look.

  • Is it just me, or does that thing look just like a Taurus?

  • Looks like a good alternative to the Walther P22. Very tempted to pick one up just for the fact that it will shoot about any ammo you can get unlike my walther. Wonder if they will come out with a target model?

  • I have no information on a target model of the SR22 Pistol.

    jeff

  • wow 19 different kinds ! nice

  • Attention Ruger: Love this new pistol however I think it would be REALLY great to see the Ruger logo on the grips or the magazine be RED, similar to what you've done with the rifle. I think it would really set it off!! Can't wait to get my hands on one of these!! Good review also Jeff!

  • Damnit Ruger! Yet another future ding in my checking account.

  • Who's the old coot in the video?

  • Just some old fat guy.

  • if they make a threaded version i will buy it in a hart bet

  • Thanks for the prompt review. Saw their announcement this morning and was wondering how long it'd take to find something like this. You're all over it, Jeff! I'm also pleased to hear about the reliability--that seems to be the biggest issue with these little 22s. I am a bit confused as to why Ruger would install a safety that functions opposite the safeties on the other SR pistols, but I may have to pick one of these up anyway.

  • Reliability was excellent, very impressive. Please see the referenced review for more info.

  • :) Very Nice review.

I think I might get rid of some to get this one.

  • Keep 'em all!
