does anyone know how to play the like Via plays at 2:16. LOVE IT! Not good enough to figure it out on my own so if anyone can play it please post it....at normal speed and then slowed down for us less talented!!!!
This Movie Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!Vai recorded the whole head cuttin Duel,But in the studio Ry cooder Played the Blues Part!!!!!!!!But it was all wrote by Steve,Ry cooder wrote the rest of the music through most of the movie!!!!!!!!!!!!Ry cooder is awsome on the Blues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha I love this movie. It's one of my all time faveorites.
Ha. Vai Got his ass kicked by Ralf Matchio. lol. If you take into concideration that He's using a Floyd Rose, and Karate Kid is using a Classic Tele, He did pretty damn good.
Ry Cooder played much of the guitar track in the film and was supposed to play the Devil's blues guitar part.
Arlen Roth was hired to coach Ralph Macchio so he could look good faking it.
Then the director brought in Steve Vai because he thought Vai looked much more the part of the Devil's guitarist and it became more of a metal guitar part.
Im inclined more and more to believe Arlen Roth that he did the slide work in this movie... big time... After watching a bunch of Ry Cooder stuff on youtube and listening to him for years, I tend to doubt he is capable of playing this stuff physically. Arlen however, certainly is.... could be wrong, but the tone isnt even Ry tone in terms of attack and notes and what not... the classical stuff was done by someone else all together according to Arlen's site.
The Vai tone is easily attainable if you A. Buy an 80s era Jackson... now very cheap because they are way hairbandish... plug into a good reverb pedal, chorus and a cranked marshall solid state stack... back in the 80s that was the tone for bar band and concert rock alike...
Well, actually, Vai wrote all of this himself, and he is famous for his Ibanez's. So I would imagine he used a Ibanez. But yeah, I figured it was a Marshall amp, I use a Line 6 so thats probably why I can't imitate it, Marshall is too unique.
ibanez or jackson, either way... point is Dimarzio pickups, marshall stack, reverb, chorus and maybe a little delay. Vai did write all the improv stuff in this solo, but he definitely didnt do the slide stuff or the fingerpicked classical part which is Paganini's Caprice V.

Ry Cooder got fed up and left.
So Arlen Roth played Ralph's part.

I own this film on video, and its without a doubt one of the worst films I have ever seen.
However...... This scene more than makes up for the rest of it. One of the best final scenes to a film ever made.
