  • W-So what?

    A-Who cares?

    L-Ugh.

    K-Big deal.

  • @spiritgirl41192

    Love their (lack of) enthusiasm!

  • Man, Grover can't get it any easy.

  • 0:23 Define excited.

  • When Grover says "ho, ho, ho," he sorta sounds like Fat Albert.

  • @Dekobee

    A very interesting observation indeed!

  • 'So what?' 'Who cares?' 'Uggh' 'Big Deal!' As soon as I saw Little Jerry and the Monotones, I thought 'Is this the clip where they say those lines?' Sure enough, I was right! A 'walk' down memory lane for sure!

  • He still looks like Chrissy to me, the one from the "Exit" lecture. The hat and "dashiki" sure make him look like it.

  • Well you know, sometimes characters tend to look different after a few months/years/days or so.

Remember when Chrissy originally had a bit of a femine appearance with the long hair and wore a poncho, then got puffed up hair and a flowered-shirt? He changed within a couple years, but he was still the same character.

Plus, don't forget how the Monotones started to look more of what we wear today in 2000, but they were still the same.

  • @wattamack4 If I didn't know better, I'd think that before the characters were fully developed, that the Chrissy character may have meant to be female: the "prototype" Chrissy from "Good Morning Starshine" was performed by Caroll, who gave it his "mother" voice, then of course from "Mad", Chrissy was played by Fran (album version by Frank using a voice similar to Piggy).

  • @GroverKent He did had some development. He probably was supposed to originally be female in "Mad", but then he turned male in "Proud" when Cerf started doing his voice for most songs.

  • Might also wanna update the annotation on the note explainning Jim wasn't Rockin' Richard, since that one also mentions Chrissy's name. ;)

  • Whoops. Didn't even notice that ...*Jiffy fix*

  • Not much for words, eh, Rockin' Richard?

  • From smokin' pot, perhaps?

  • Boy they're sexy aren't they?

  • You know, that'd actually be pretty funny if Big Jeffy actually said "We're still walking, just like you said to Boss!" in part 2.

By the way, you might wanna update the annotations because the Lavender puppet in this sketch isn't Chrissy; it's really the lead singer from "Surprise!", only seen with a different wardrobe and performer.

  • Just seeing how tired Little Jerry and the Monotones are makes me smile and think, "Did they get up on the wrong side of the bed?" Heh, heh.

Oh, and 1RichardHunt, have you listened closely to Little Jerry and found a tiny bit of similarity between this voice and the voice from Mad? That's just me, though.

  • Wow! I haven't seen this sketch since 1980!

  • After looking at some of the comments, it does kinda make me think Jim maybe should've performed Rockin' Richard in this one, mostly so Caroll wouldn't have to strugle with performing 2 puppets at once.

But oh well, not everyone is available. :/

  • I already knew it was Caroll, but I just thought Jim should've rather performed Richard to save Caroll some trouble.

  • No.

    Muppet wiki.

  • I like the gurgled "Oowah!" noise Grover makes at the end of every walk-on.

  • Three reasons why Little Jerry and the Monotones get different performers here (I think from my point of view):

    1. Jeff Moss is probably too busy writing songs for Sesame Street.

    2. This is from 1970, so Christopher Cerf and Richard Hunt didn't join Sesame Street yet until 1971 or 1972.

    3. I guess just for this sketch, Jerry Nelson isn't always available as Little Jerry.

  • You forgot Frank Oz as Grover

  • True, I did. Then again, it kinda seems unnecessary to add Frank in since we already know he's performing Grover.

  • Out of curiosity, did you make the colors of the annotations based on the characters' AM design?

  • Yeah, I kinda did (based on what colors I had for annotations.)

  • Is this from 1970? Because it looks and sound like it to me.

  • I would think this is from the 3rd season, mainly cause Big Jeffy already has a hat in this sketch with his headband wrapped around it.

But that's only my guess, shame CTW can't upload full episodes on their website.

  • That's like Kermit getting beaten up by the W. LOL

  • I like how disgruntled Little Jerry and the Monotones were. I guess they prefer singing than talking lectures.

  • Very nice sketch.

  • At first, I thought Jim Henson did Little Jerry but now I do hear Fran Brill now that you mentioned it.

  • Really? Well, when I first watched this, I thought Jim was doing Rockin' Richard (because y'know, it sounded like one of his gravely voices like Rowlf or Dr. Teeth). I guess we all expected Jim to be in this sketch.

  • Oh man. I feel so sorry for Grover when he gives lectures haha.

  • I know this clip is quite old but this one I don' t remember seeing on Sesame STreet,

  • Thanks for the upload. :)

It sure ain't the same without the regular performers for the Monotones though.

  • You know, it isn't, is it?

  • Yeah.

Jerry Nelson as Big Jeffy and Fran Brill as Little Jerry just sounds... weird, in my opinion.
