Nobody can say for sure if he even killed himself or was murdered. Although the latter seems easier to fall back on the possibility of murder is always there. So talking about him stabbing himself is just jumping to conclusions.

@traveese087 nothing actually happens to the counting, at that point. most likely, the problem you're encountering in terms of the counting, is at the very beginning. (i know, because the first time i heard the song i was rather perplexed, myself!) the song actually starts on the pick-up beats "and 3 and 4", rather than "1 and 2"....so that when he starts singing, he starts on "and 3 and 4" again. see if that helps! otherwise, i'm not sure what you're talking about! :-)
