  • I ended up liking this one a lot more than I thought I would. The tartness cut through the stout in a way that didn't clash like some of Jolly Pumpkins offerings (such as their weizen bam, imo). Really a very enjoyable beer in a way that some sours aren't, I could have put down a bottle by myself easily, maybe my batch was more on its game?

  • @frackle Ive had this beer since this review and liked it a lot more from the tap. I think they blended the sourness perfectly with the stout characters. Since these are all blended beers it could be that each batch will be different.

  • I cant wait to have this one, its in my cellar, ill have to check the bottling date on it. I had Luciernaga a couple weeks ago, it was good, but the tartness was a bit weak. Really big spice on that one though.

  • @superspak Yeah this was a really strange one but I thought it was a really nice sipper. Let me know how your bottle is. Cheers

  • I do really like the picture and label for this beer. and it sounds interesting to say the least.

  • @StephenDickerman Yeah If you have never had a sour stout give this one a try. Cheers

  • @BeerGeekNation if I ever see it I will, that's for sure.

  • have you tried rogue's chocolate stout? its one of my FAVORITES

  • @cheezeythaskunk I actually just reviewed their double chocolate stout. Really great stuff. Just search for Beer Geek Nation Double Chocolate stout and it should come up

  • chris you r the go to man for the beer reviews #1 on youtube keep it up

  • @cheezeythaskunk Thanks man I appreciate that. Cheers!

  • @Random2605 Ive had a few but I dont seek them out. I enjoy Strong Bow on tap every once in a while.

  • I prefer their other offerings, the Bam Biere and so forth (E.S Bam too), to me sour and stout just doesn't go together at all and I could not get into this one at all, but lots of people dig it.

    Cheer

  • @imbibehour Ive only ever had this and their Pumpkin beer. Ill really have to try some of their other stuff. Cheers

  • @BeerGeekNation all their beers are "sours" (if you didn't know already!) Enjoy!

    Cheers!

  • That's my least favorite Jolly Pumpkin beer and it's still quite good.

I agree on the Grand Reserves they are amazing but very difficult to get.

I sometimes forget how lucky I am to live close to the brewery, then I see the prices others are paying for a bottle.

  • Great video as usual. Love your reviews. I've been looking to try some JP brews but they're not in NH, so I'd have to do a bit of traveling to get them.

I'm just wondering who that ass is that always gives your videos the dislike? Do you have a nemesis?

  • "Ya that is strange" lol. I'm so curious about this beer, especially with how strange I keep hearing about it. I would totally try this, but sadly Jolly Pumpkin tends to be super pricey. One day I"ll try it though. I like trying obscure styles, especially if sour is involved.

  • Thanks for the review Chris! How about reviewing 2011 Dark Lord??

  • @jamesjoejimmyjohnjas head over to the beer geek nation facebook page to vote for episode 200 and maybe it will be that one!

  • Great Review!! Just wondering, it seems like the audio is a bit lower then normal, new software?

  • @NYRfan4ever Yeah i turned it down for the last 3

  • @BeerGeekNation How come? Trying something new?

  • Nice review once again Chris! Sounds very complex. Do you think Madrugada Obscura was laid on a bed of cherries? Looks like they use oak maturation and open fermentation technique.

  • @djmx121 I dont think it was aged with cherries but it has that taste. Yeah it was def aged on oak. Amazing stuff. Cheers

  • Great review Love the label........dark Beers are my first in line beers.

  • Nice review! One of my beer stores carries this, I was hesitant of buying this $16 beer but that B+ means I will give it a try! Maybe I’ll have it with steak tonight. By the way madrugada means early dawn, like 3:00AM early!

  • @bigpapykane Yeah its a pricey beer but I think its worth trying if you like imp stout and sours. Honestly I have never had anything like it.

  • When I tried it, I couldn't get past the sour/vinegar smell and taste. I really couldn't pick out the more stout features either. Then again, I haven't been able to appreciate sours yet, so it could have been easy for me to get stuck on the sour aspect. I'm glad I tried it, but I don't know if I will again. At $15, they aren't flying out the cooler, so i may give a go months down the line...

  • @silentbooger Yeah if you are not in to sours this isn't the beer for you haha. I would say try a Rodenbach or something like that to start to get you more into them. This is an aggressive beer for certain and for the price i wouldn't recommend it if you aren't into sours.

  • Great beer. Amazing brewery. Try to find yourself some of the Grand Reserve editions!

  • @uno99 Are those brewery only releases?

  • @BeerGeekNation Yeah, very limited too. They spend an extra year in the oak.

  • MICHIGAN FTW!!

  • I like this one. It's a good blend between two styles. I'll get to reviewing it eventually.

  • Sounds like a lambic and an imperial stout had a baby.... Is this anything like Ommegang's Three Philosophers? Great review.

  • @drolretfa Yeah thats almost exactly what it is like. Three Phils is a completely different beer. THis beer focus' more onthe sour and the chocolate/coffe flavor of the stout where 3 phils is all big dark fruits. Cheers

  • Love that label, great review.

  • @Tantrum777 Yeah all of their labels are spot on. Cheers

  • sounds like a weird beer.

  • @ChadzBeerReviews Yeah it was but weird in a good way.
