A bit of a paradox, since he was born in New York City, and worked as a DJ in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Los Angeles, and Oakland, California. Perhaps any southern accent he had was picked up in LA? It's possible.

@gerundive lmao, he was african american, most african americans are from the south. They dont just move en masse to the north and lose their accents. When i moved from the south to chicago, i felt quite at home with the blacks but felt strange with the whites., because the blacks that had spent their whole lives in chicago spoke "southern'.
