You don't know what context the supreme court justice was using that quote in. If I went around and presented some out of context quote from Obama that said
"sex is an educational thing our children can experience" Would you think he was an amoral twisted individual? Of course. But what if the statement was originally.
"A viewpoint from the opposite sex is an educational thing our children can experience". Be more analytical and don't let one quote or one person change your opinion on another.
VeritasVisuals lived up to their name by speaking the truth, employing the tactic that in the vernacular of the urban streets can be called flipping the script. This Sotomajor is a self-confessed racist who, no doubt on account of her being a minority and female, did not lose her job. This is disgraceful. And these are supposedly Harvard students? They show themselves to be bigoted by making a mockery of the culture, and the people they are interviewing. While trying to play it down by mocking themselves and english culture along with it. What a feeble attempt at wit and humor. This is hardly truth in action. Actually far from it. This is idiocy operating under the guise of humorous intelligence. To a educated, intelligent individual, this would come off as massive FAIL.
@DaringSomething Wow. I'm an American. I am also not homophobic. And in regards to your 3rd fail. I never claimed I was an educated, intelligent individual. Look over your post again. Yes, you have issues.
Yeah, it´s shit (probably racist) but those dudes don´t know what they´re saying. It makes no sense to talk about a "white male and a latina woman" in a racial context. White male is obviously related to race. However, latina woman is not. The following are all latina women: a black woman from Venezuela, a white woman from México, a mestiza from Bolivia... (attending to Latin América). Also all women from Spain, Italy, Portugal are latinas cos they speak latin languages.
The Hispanic race does not exist, just like the Anglo-Saxon race does not exist either. They´re linguistic groups. To be honest, I don´t know to which racial group Sotomayor belongs, I would say she´s a mestiza (mixed), part white part Indian. Obama is also a mestizo, he´s not black only, he´s also part white. I´m white, that´s my racial group, and I´m also Hispanic, cos my first language is Spanish. Me parece que la ignorancia de estos anglosajones se va a convertir en su perdición...
It seems that in today's world it's okay to be racist as long as you are not a white male. I can just imagine the outcry if a president ever nominated a white judge who said he could make a better decision than a non-white? It would be the lead story on every newscast worldwide and that president would be forced to withdraw the nomination pronto. But because she's a hispanic woman nominated by a black president the nomination is free to proceed.
Of couse that a mexican, part white part indian (like most mexicans are) is a hispanic person, but he/she is hispanic because their mother tongue is spanish. The right term to refer to people of mixed races is "mestizo" for male or "mestiza" for female. And another thing, your country is not "América", but the United States. América is a continent, a huge one, which spans from Argentina to Canadá.
These idiots don´t even know what "hispanic" and "latino" mean. It´s got nothing to do what race: you can be white and hispanic at the same time, like most people from Spain or Argentina. Hispanic refers to a language group of people, just like the term anglo.
trick them and the responces are kewl, mad at the white man sign, calmer and nicer when they find out a spanish woman said that, see the difference.that racist stuff will never go away,i wish it would but it will not,it like men and women.always gonna fuss about something to each other.people don't pay enough attention to whats really going on.peace everyone.AND BETTER BEWARE OF who's watching you.
Ha, this shit's a joke. Since when do Latinos give a shit about their own people discriminating against whites? Seriously? Latinos hate white people. Period. Espeically Mexicans and Puerto Ricans. They especially hate the Anglos. All Latinos stick together, no matter what, whether it's in the good or the wrong...no matter what
I'm a latino american and a proud Libertarian and I found that very racist. I can't believe in this country you can say whatever you want about white people but when a white man says that to a minority the fringe media goes crazy.
actually,it's the other way around. White people can say whatever the fuck they want about latinos, yet when we lash back the media thinks we're racist.
uhhh no?? What news station have you seen that does this?? How many times do minority groups state this against white people and get away with this but when a white person does this against a minority the media goes crazy?? How come when a white kills a minority the media goes crazy about racism but when a minority kills a white, the media is silent. This racism game is stupid and it is just like how if a white man dislikes the president or healthcare, he is racist (according to Carter).
first of all nobody likes obama bin laden, second of all it's still not acceptable for a minority to be racist against white people, those who do is because the white man started it.
I'm a Latino I found Sotomayor's comment to be racist and offensive. A Supreme Court Judge who is White, Black or Brown should reach a conclusion based on a sound interpretation of the Constitution, not how well they tan. I have always had a problem with the notion of being given some sort of "breaks" in life because of whatever heritage I was born into, rather than from my own accomplishments. Judge people by the merit of their character, not their damn skin color. Who cares about melanin?!
The very fact she thinks her personal background, gender, race anything of that sort should come into play as a Supreme Court Judge is ... well proof enough for me she should not be there and most probably got there for the wrong reasons.
I really would like to know in specific an example of how her being Latina and a female that she can make better decisions, when talking about the law which should not be dictated by emotion or feelings or whatever.
im a latina, and i found that statement she made rascist. I dont believe anyone should have support because of their ethnic background, it should be based on how good they are for the job.
The law isn't based on race ... the law should be BLIND. Rule of law should treat every individual based on their constitutional rights. What does the color of their skin have to do with that?
Seems that most people got that point when the statement was reversed. This is just common sense and seems to be something that our politicians don't have anymore.
There you go! Straight from the people! Minorities are tired of being labeled Social Victims. It is condescending and has been the agenda of well meaning BUT completely clueless liberals for a long time. THEY JUST WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE. And treated like EVERYONE else--no special treatment. Only when they are allowed to succeed and rise up on their own merits will they feel truly EQUAL.
Alright that's true, but why don't they just stick to the interviews? Why go and be rude to those in the restaurant? Seems to be more to this than Sotomayors statement.
I love that the guy at the end says "You should write the sign in spanish, dude" he says it in english, with no accent and with a stoner inflection. Thats hilarious for so many reasons.
Why do you think the video is racist? I thought it was respectful of my heritage and culture. they had some fun with it, but i don't think any of it was racist.
Well I may have missed the point, but it seemed to me that they were trying to make the Latinas look stupid. For example, asking that guy if he knows where Harvard is.
honestly, if i wasn't from Massachusetts, I might not know where Harvard was. i don't think thats necessarily common knowledge among the lower middle class and working poor.
Where "the next video" is ? I wanna see the continuation. These vids are very funny and they give a merciless portrait of your society (and of our ones in EU soon).
And of course the ancestral line of individuals from the caucus mountains would take this statement alarmingly and offensively.
However, to me, in the midst of a country riddled with racial tension, take a look at some of the "without-a-thought" comments against Our Colored President and tell me THOSE statements aren't offensive, alarming and above all, hurtful...
I think thats exactly the point the guy who said it was making. Obviously he speaks english fluently, its not for his sake that they need to write it in spanish.
Good video. Anybody with common sense could tell that her statement was racist, and yet still she is serving on the supreme court. It's madness. This country is going crazy. Apparently only white people can be racist, everyone else get a free ride.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
she's not racist, her statement was racist. There is a difference. When people have outrageous pride in their heritage sometimes they say stupid things like that, my mexican girlfriend has but I know she's not racist she has many white friends.
i could just be splitting hairs here, but she compared a latina woman to a white male, and for some reason you attacked this as being a racist statement. but isn't it also possible, her statement was a sexist statement. after all, she never said a latina woman is better than a white woman. then again, it could just be that you're taking her words out of context, when what she actually meant was that perhaps a latina woman might be able to offer a different perspective than a white man.
It's all nonsense any way you look at it. A judge should be concerned about the rule of law. The only perspective they should bring is the perspective of that law.
"First... there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life.
Let us not forget that wise men like Oliver Wendell Holmes and Justice Cardozo voted on cases which upheld both sex and race discrimination in our society. Until 1972, no Supreme Court case ever upheld the claim of a woman in a gender discrimination case."
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well, because it is taking only a half truth and attaching a BIG FKN LIE, to make it look like she meant something DIFFERENT That she actually meant and said to make a point.
Example , most of these people were only told that she made a comment, and did not say why she said or to what she was referring to & how someone could make a reverse racism comment to be sarcastic and make a point of how someone might look , when they are a racist
I am a Chicana and I feel that she is racist in her heart. I am proud of my heritage and I feel the way she presents herself she has a biased opinion. I don't feel she is the best option for this govmt position. Racism is racism.
It's odd that these people take all this time to put all of this together and make the sign, when it would have taken less time to just read what she said in context .(Read the ENTIRE speech) She was talking about judicial activism as pertaining to racial and sexual discrimination in history. She even said that a white male can make that decision in regaurds to racial and sexual discrimination. It's sad that people don't take the time to read anymore.
Please remember that many latinas, such as myself, would never vote for her because she is not worthy of that position. The ones that are giving her the power are the white politicians carrying out the elite's dictates so as to divide our people in the USA. It will NOT work because We The People have gone through too much to be divided by these fools. They will be exposed. AUDIT THE FED then follow the money. Urge your congressmen to cosponsor HR 1207 and urge your senators to pass S 604.
Ooh wow...you guys are so clever...bunch preppy white boys...gonna go out to the latino neighborhood and bravely demonstrate a brilliant point....talking to an average "man on the street"...who's probably never even heard of supreme court and is obviously utterly incapable of forming a critical thought...and asking them a stupid question about a MISquote written on a white board...completely out of context.
Are you really so out of touch with reality to somehow maintain that a white man (given the history) should be able to say the same things as blacks or hispanics?
You ever listen to Chris Rock or Dave Chapelle? So should a white man be able to make fun of black people? What about BET or NAACP? Should it be acceptable to have White Entertainment TV? or NAAWP? Or what about the Black Caucus in congress?
So by your logic, they must be all racist! And we should rail against all of them!
Lets come back from Liberal La-La Land. According to your logic, if a group has been oppressed by another group in any moment in history, then they cannot criticize them? May I ask, then who is left?
To answer your first question (although it was directed at someone else), we all have freedom of speech regardless of race. It's all about how someone chooses their words and in comedy it can be funny without being offensive. But quite frankly, aside from comedy no one should be making racist comments from any perspective. However, it is equally racist against white people to insist that they censor their words while everyone else bashes them.
Did you read the context? This video is not context by the way.
She was talking about judicial activism as relating to sex and race discrimination.
" I, like Professor Carter, believe that we should not be so myopic as to believe that others of different experiences or backgrounds are incapable of understanding the values and needs of people from a different group. Many are so capable." ~Sotomayor
That's from the same speech. Google "Sotomayor speech in context".
It doesn't matter when she said the statement, she's racist! The proof is in the fact that her verdict regarding the white firefighters case was overturned by the very court she;s being nominated for! If a white person were to say the very same thing they would be crucufied in the media, but it's ok for her to say it!?? Nope, I dont think so! Reverse racism is alive and going strong, and it needs to stop!
"When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account." ~ Judge Alito
It's sad that at the ripe age of 42, you never bothered to look up the statement. It shows a lack of wisdom. She was talking about gender and racial discrimination in our society. It's obvious that you have never once bothered to look it up.
You guys are awesome!!!! Satormayor is a racist pig,,, I don't think there is any argument for any type of racism in this country. I hope Satormayor gets blocked!!!
She said this because she KNOWS the only reason she was chosen above other potential nominees was because she was hispanic. This has fed her ego to a point of arrogance, as seen in this statement.
P.S: I pray for the day when her house is set ablaze like no other raging inferno and an incompetent firefighter can't put it out because he is a less qualified, Equal Opportunity appointed civil servant.
I hope her experiences in life would make her quite knowledgable. She seems quite educated. However, as a person in the public light you should always refrain from including sex and race in any comment you make. She should have said :"I would hope that a person with the rich experiences that i have seen would more often than not reach a better conclusion than someone who hasnt lived that life." She made it a sexcist, racist comment when she stated it as she did. there is no distortion.
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasnt lived that life."
How does adding the word "hope" make this statement any better? If you reverse this actual statement, it sounds just as bad... Get real, I'm a Dem, but this was NOT a "wise" thing to say. She's already stated herself she wished she hadn't said it.
She clearly did not say she would, but rather that she hoped she would, given the experiences she had had in life. He left out the fact that she was speaking about a hope and also left out the relation to the "richness of her experiences", which totally changes the meani ng of the quote. It would be interesting to see how Jimmy defends this.
You can take any clean excerpt from her quote you want, but you cant ignore the blatant and outward sexist and racist remarks in her original quote. Think of it this way, I could say " I hope Wetbacks are educated and wise beyond thier years." Is that racist? Afterall i did say that they were "...educated and wise..." and i spoke of "hope". So we can simply disregard the rest of the statement....Cant we?
But, of course, Sotomayor did not in fact say that...she spoke of a "hope" that a Latina woman would reach a better conclusion given the "richness of her experience"...experiences that a white man would not have had himself, logically, being a white man and not a Latina woman.
Here is the phrase Jimmy juxtaposed for his romp through the streets of Union City to make it appear that a white man would appear racist and, therefore, a Latina woman saying the same thing, but in reverse, would logically appear racist, too:
"A wise white man would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman."
I found it very interesting that like a true conservative he misquoted and manipulated the sentence of Judge Sotomayor to suit his purposes. Here is the actual quote from the 2001 speech:
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasnt lived that life."
Oh, BTW, James, that accent... hmm... who does it remind me of? Oh! That guy! Um, yeah, his name is on the tip of my tongue, yeah, um... no. I forget. Oh well.
this crap is so corny his redneck ass isnt even funny -____-

While trying to play it down by mocking themselves and english culture along with it. What a feeble attempt at wit and humor. This is hardly truth in action. Actually far from it. This is idiocy operating under the guise of humorous intelligence. To a educated, intelligent individual, this would come off as massive FAIL.

00001111548 2 years ago

bigdud12345 2 years ago

00001111548 2 years ago
These idiots don´t even know what "hispanic" and "latino" mean. It´s got nothing to do what race: you can be white and hispanic at the same time, like most people from Spain or Argentina. Hispanic refers to a language group of people, just like the term anglo.

actually,it's the other way around.

+1...thousand
The very fact she thinks her personal background, gender, race anything of that sort should come into play as a Supreme Court Judge is ... well proof enough for me she should not be there and most probably got there for the wrong reasons.
I really would like to know in specific an example of how her being Latina and a female that she can make better decisions, when talking about the law which should not be dictated by emotion or feelings or whatever.

The law isn't based on race ... the law should be BLIND. Rule of law should treat every individual based on their constitutional rights. What does the color of their skin have to do with that?

i could just be splitting hairs here, but she compared a latina woman to a white male, and for some reason you attacked this as being a racist statement. but isn't it also possible, her statement was a sexist statement. after all, she never said a latina woman is better than a white woman. then again, it could just be that you're taking her words out of context, when what she actually meant was that perhaps a latina woman might be able to offer a different perspective than a white man.

It's all nonsense any way you look at it. A judge should be concerned about the rule of law. The only perspective they should bring is the perspective of that law.

it was a cynical example or sarcastic example.

So, you would have had no problem with a white man saying in context with what Sotomayor said?
mjconley12 2 years ago
Are you really so out of touch with reality to somehow maintain that a white man (given the history) should be able to say the same things as blacks or hispanics?
You ever listen to Chris Rock or Dave Chapelle? So should a white man be able to make fun of black people? What about BET or NAACP? Should it be acceptable to have White Entertainment TV? or NAAWP? Or what about the Black Caucus in congress?
So by your logic, they must be all racist! And we should rail against all of them!
dattucha 2 years ago
Lets come back from Liberal La-La Land. According to your logic, if a group has been oppressed by another group in any moment in history, then they cannot criticize them? May I ask, then who is left?
mjconley12 2 years ago 2
To answer your first question (although it was directed at someone else), we all have freedom of speech regardless of race. It's all about how someone chooses their words and in comedy it can be funny without being offensive. But quite frankly, aside from comedy no one should be making racist comments from any perspective. However, it is equally racist against white people to insist that they censor their words while everyone else bashes them.
impasse0124 2 years ago 3
Did you read the context? This video is not context by the way.
She was talking about judicial activism as relating to sex and race discrimination.
" I, like Professor Carter, believe that we should not be so myopic as to believe that others of different experiences or backgrounds are incapable of understanding the values and needs of people from a different group. Many are so capable." ~Sotomayor
That's from the same speech. Google "Sotomayor speech in context".

It doesn't matter when she said the statement, she's racist! The proof is in the fact that her verdict regarding the white firefighters case was overturned by the very court she;s being nominated for!

She clearly did not say she would, but rather that she hoped she would, given the experiences she had had in life. He left out the fact that she was speaking about a hope and also left out the relation to the "richness of her experiences", which totally changes the meani ng of the quote. It would be interesting to see how Jimmy defends this.
CitzenTory 2 years ago
You can take any clean excerpt from her quote you want, but you cant ignore the blatant and outward sexist and racist remarks in her original quote. Think of it this way, I could say " I hope Wetbacks are educated and wise beyond thier years." Is that racist? Afterall i did say that they were "...educated and wise..." and i spoke of "hope". So we can simply disregard the rest of the statement....Cant we?
bravewzr 2 years ago
But, of course, Sotomayor did not in fact say that...she spoke of a "hope" that a Latina woman would reach a better conclusion given the "richness of her experience"...experiences that a white man would not have had himself, logically, being a white man and not a Latina woman.
CitzenTory 2 years ago 2
Here is the phrase Jimmy juxtaposed for his romp through the streets of Union City to make it appear that a white man would appear racist and, therefore, a Latina woman saying the same thing, but in reverse, would logically appear racist, too:
"A wise white man would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman."
CitzenTory 2 years ago
I found it very interesting that like a true conservative he misquoted and manipulated the sentence of Judge Sotomayor to suit his purposes. Here is the actual quote from the 2001 speech:
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasnt lived that life."
CitzenTory 2 years ago
