That goddamned "Blue Mountain" logo/jingle used to scare the living shit outta me when I was a kid. *shudders* But, it didn't scare me NEARLY as bad as the DiC Green Vortex, the Ruby-Spears logo with the dark background and spooky music, or the REAL doozy, the Clumbia Pictures Torch Lady from '87.
I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who was scared by the blue mountain logo/jingle. Even if I knew it was comming, it would scare the shit out of me.
Well, it's that, too. But in total with the fact that there's also the 1976 fanfare(composed by Jerry Golsmith) which could cause some High-Scare factors as well, and maybe even the first two 1968 Paramount Television logos(standard and the warped version), but the "Closet Killer", and especially the last one- yeah, that's high scare.
We're getting into the "Cheap, but Persuasive" Era. In other words, people just want to let you knoe it's there's and don't mess with it, but in the cheapest way possible.
Whoever put this montage together, definitely has a lot of free time on their hands, whereas I do also for watching this. I think it's time for some valium. right about now.
They don't call that music "Closet Killer" for nothing. When I was little, I once scared the crap out of myself by jumping in front of a full-length mirror in time to that music. I really needed a hobby.
I love the "closet killer" jingle! The blue mountain logos, however, that jingle still gives me the creeps a little. But I'm nowhere near as scared of them now as I was as a child.
rofl, is the guy who composed that "closet killer" music tone deaf? It's like he's thinking "hmm, I need to compose music for a production logo that's totally non-threatening and a little triumphant sounding" *composes music that sounds like it should accompany a death scene in a thriller* "Presto!"
The Triangle Logo music was scary, indeed, especially not knowing what's coming to you. What's also scary is the Blue Mountain Paramount Logo used in the early 1980s on shows like Mork and Mindy, Happy Days, and Taxi. But then the next version used on Cheers, Family Ties, and Webster since like 1982 until 1987 isn't nearly as scary, IMO, because the music is much softer. Great compilation!
Looks like nightmare Tv! Lol! Variations of groundhog day movie! Help! I keep seeing paramount intros repeatedly and some strange short music!! lol! Thx for posting!
I think the split, closet-killer version (clips 4-6) was used for the Odd Couple, while the alternate (clips 11-12)was used for the Happy Days sitcom from '76 to '78.
Is it possible to have a video of just the first logo? The one with the black mountain. I have seen many logos but that one is one of the most cheesiest and amaturish logos I've ever seen.
The 1968-69 Paramount Blue split rectangle theme IS scary, Especially with it's brassy-string orchestral; The 1969-70 "Closet Killer" Paramount theme is a nightmare, Especially when thinking about it in the wee hours in the dark or lack of light.
Star Trak. Happy Days. The Brady Bunch. Aresino Hall. Damn, Paramount TV STILL Rules! Too bad it kind of sucks that Viacom (Read: ViaCON) owns them all.
Guys, there is a Paramount Television Service logo used in the late '70s for syndicated programs. It is similar to their 1979 home video ID, but has the same 1979 Lalo Schifrin music.
Link to the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZnoh6TXa54
On the first few season 4 (1969-1970) episodes of "Mission: Impossible" the first Split Box logo used from 1968-69 was dubbed with the "Closet Killer" music heard in the red (1969-75) version of the logo.
I'd like to see a reconstructed version of this montage, with the 1982 variation of the Blue Mountain which has the word "Television" overlapping the peak. This variation was once seen at the end of "Cheers" episodes from the period as well as on "Webster", "The Winds of War" and the last two seasons of "Happy Days."
Hot News! The Closing Logo Group has launched "Paramount Television Tribute" in association with K-Star Productions. Soundtracks: Blues Traveler "The Mountains Win Again" and Gary Portnoy "When Everybody Knows Your Name", from the movie "Cheers".
Don't remember the red ones but Dang! What were they thinking? Wouldn't you want to startle people to attention at the START of your show rather than when it's over? Might as well have used cuts from the old Disney Haunted House album. "MOMMY! PARAMOUNT'S COMIN' TO GET ME!"
The first two seasons of "MacGyver" have the Blue Mountain logo intact, with either the 1979, 1982 or 1985 versions of the Lalo Schifrin music.
In the S1 (1985-86) set, the two episodes that have the Blue Mountain with the '79 theme are "Thief of Budapest" and "Flame's End." All others have the 1982 theme. As for S2 (1986-87), all 22 eps have the 1985 Blue Mountain logo and the '85 theme.
i love this montage. 2 me,the 75th anniversary is the best.(maybe because that's when they went from the tired blue mountain 2 the peru mountain). my favorite logo was the paramount logo shifting to paramount video back in the mid 80s. i only saw it on the brothers tv show on showtime.
Anybody notice how the "Star Wars music" logos all sound like they're being played back from a warped record?
Except when it's attached to any of the "Star Trek" series?
BTW, I didn't know that the "Closet Killer" logo actually had a name. It's not quite up there with the Screen Gems logos (recent one excluded) and the early Viacom ones, but it's definitely unnerving.
This reminds me of every episode of "Happy Days" and "Laverne & Shirley". It also reminds me of 9:00PM on Tuesday nights approaching. The Paramount jingle was my cue for bed!
OK, yes, some of these are scary. Especially the red ones. Some logos from back in the Gen X childhood days are truly scary, admit it! But how about certain Sesame Street and Electric Company cartoon clips as the ultimate in evil and frightening?
For those of you think that the 2002 Paramount Television logo is still, WRONG! That logo DOES have animation. The only animation there is that the clouds are moving slow. You have to look really hard.
I DESPISED the Blue Mountain, it scared the pants off me when I was about 7... of course, when I was 15 logos didn't bother me as much and I thought being scared of logos was a bit silly (of course, when I was 15, Paramount had ditched the Blue Mountain) even though admittedly, I had to look sideways at those logos that scared me as a child.
Perhaps if lenhill was 7 and watching this he'd be assuming the Doctor Who position, right behind the sofa with his fingers in his ears XD
Holy Crap The Paramount Logo has changed over the years and you're right by 2012 the Paramount crew will create a 100th anniversary logo by making the mountain even more majestic or probaly even more beautiful.
Sorry. I've forgotted Dominic Frontiere with his "Closet Killer". Now yes. Richard Krizman, Dominic Frontiere, Lalo Schifrin and Jerry Goldsmith. For me, not scaring.
Like I Ashed before. What if Paramount Television produces one of my favorites shows, Corrector Yui? Richard Krizman, Lalo Schifrin, Jerry Goldsmith, Just famous composers. Awesome, Awesome!!!!!!
That would be a truly hurculean task, as there were a kajillion custom end titles used in cartoons! Unfortunately, some of them seem to have vanished off the face of the Earth...
Thanks laserpotato. Back in the early days of TV, the cartoon distributors like NTA and UM&M used carried the Flesicher cartoons until 1943 and the pre-51 Famous cartoons where they covered the Paramount titles and the main title of the cartoons was blocked by a black bar except the "Paramount presents" and "In Technicolor" was also blocked by a black bar.
Those were replaced by red NTA titles. The UM&M titles has a red background without showing the original credits and the UM&M copyright instead of Paramount. AAP was the TV distributor where they used to carry the Flesicher/Famous Popeyes as well as the pre-48 Looney Tunes when it was syndicated on TV.
Harvey Films was also another TV disributor that usually carried the post-51 Paramount Famous cartoons with references to a Jack-in-the-Box Noveltoon with a big "H" on a TV shape. in both openings (zoom in) and closings (zoom out). It featured all the characters from the Famous Noveltoons like Casper, Little Audrey, Tommy Tortise, Moe Hare, Herman, Katnip, Buzzy and Baby Huey gathered around the Harvey Films logo.
But if we made it to the year 2012, then Paramount Pictures logo crew will make their new Paramount Pictures 100th Anniversary logo. How do you like that? What would Tom Cruise gonna think about that new Paramount Pictures logo coming up in 2012?
Yeah! I really want to view the compilation of the movie logos from Paramount Pictures. If this one is already excellent, think about the movie logo compilation.
It's really funny how these logos just bring back your childhood in a flash. The jingles and speed are just creepy as all hell but in a strange way mesmerising. It's only YouTube that you can can truly find these lost gems.
I think you should have gone a bit further and compiled in some of Paramount's old movie logos. That would have been interesting. Someone should do this in particular with Universal Studios' variations. Oh yeah: the Desilu closers from old Star Trek episodes belong here too. They were funky weird.
Yeah, tell me about it!! I use to see the red one after the Brady Bunch...only it was played upside down and thread through the projection reel backwards.
The transition to 1969 is priceless. And that second 1969 theme... it's almost as if the composer decided that there wasn't enough pants-shitting fear in the first one.
THIS has the original rectangle music. I think this tune was pretty good. Why did they change it, and if they HAD to change it, WHY the "Closet Killer" music?!? I also noticed that the first 4 notes of "Closet Killer" sound like a demented version of the first 4 notes of the previous theme!
The CGI Mountains are much, much better. Not scary at all! Whenever I watch certain shows syndicated by Paramount in TV Land and Nick at Nite, I love the fact that they just show CGI mountains without the music. Now that's the best!
Are ya nuts? Whenever I watch shows like Taxi, Laverne and Shirley, pre-1987 episodes of Cheers or Family Ties, I seldom sat thru the end credits. The jingle and the blue mountain scared me like hell.
If the Blue mountain logo had continued into the 1990s, I probably would not have known the lyrics to "Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs" from Frasier.
Oh dear!!! You all (except KazuyaPower) are a group of cowards!! This thing of "View at Your own Risk" is past! There is no scaring logos and scaring jingles!

I had no idea those first ones even existed. Yellow/Green Split Box????

Yeah, tell me about it!! I use to see the red one after the Brady Bunch...only it was played upside down and thread through the projection reel backwards.
That truly gave me nightmares for weeks.

No! No! NOOOOO! Just TRYING to think of what that would sound like makes my blood freeze into ice cubes!

The high-pitched Closet Killer music around 22 seconds in is probably the scariest of them all!
mr3urious 5 years ago
I think that 2nd Closet Killer was the 1st music sped-up!

WOW!! I didn't know Paramount Television had that many jingle variations.

this was enjoyable, thanks :)

Holy Jeebus, the "Closet Killer" music progressively got scarier in that montage, especially the one at the 22 second mark.

The transition to 1969 is priceless. And that second 1969 theme... it's almost as if the composer decided that there wasn't enough pants-shitting fear in the first one.

That's the 25fps PAL version, I believe. Same as the first one, but in PAL format.

About nine too many "blue mountains" and 14 too many nightmares than I wanted to see.

major reason I like Frasier more than Cheers...all CGI mountains and no blue mountains.

The CGI Mountains are much, much better. Not scary at all! Whenever I watch certain shows syndicated by Paramount in TV Land and Nick at Nite, I love the fact that they just show CGI mountains without the music. Now that's the best!

They scared me when I was little, but not anymore.
KazuyaPrower 5 years ago
They're really not that scary. But they're enjoyable to watch.

The last 4 logos are awesome! The jingle remembers the "Star Wars" theme!!

Oh dear!!! You all (except KazuyaPower) are a group of cowards!! This thing of "View at Your own Risk" is past! There is no scaring logos and scaring jingles!
lenhill 5 years ago
I've watched this video many, many, many times and i're not scared and look at this! I have 15 years old!
