The rebuilding of the Temple is prophetic according to the Bible. After it's rebuild, the antichrist aka the man of lawlessness aka the beast, will become so powerful, he, with the false prophet (I believe will be the last pope, Peter) will cause all to wear the mark of the beast and perform lying signs and wonders and everyone will marvel at the beast. This does NOT mean God has abandoned Israel. He promises that in the Last Days that He will return His people into their land from the four corners of the Earth. This started in 1948 and continues today. After the rapture, aka the catching away, (when all believers are called by Christ to the Marriage Supper) God will once again deal with Israel. The Jehova's Witness (cult) are the ones that teach about the 144K that will be raptured, which is contrary to what the bible states. The 144K is in reference to 12,000 from 12 Tribes of Israel. The rapture will be for the "bride" of Christ. His church that has been washed by the blood of the lamb.
