@legitmcoolsley2223 well everyone is going to die...no one is immune to that. Some of the founding fathers (not all) were for slavery. People during that time were born in that horrible mindset unfortunately. Thank God civilization has moved forward...well for the most part.
i've seen this movie i've lost count on how many times but this is scene i can say word for word the most i love this movie the first time i saw it i was about 9 or 10 i'm 27 now and i love it even more!
You conservatives hate Hollywood till it comes to someone like John Wayne. It's all the same thing people, ILLUSION. John Wayne was never a hero. He played one. Jimmy Stewart? Now that is an American hero. 25 combat missions over Europe, now that's a hero. If John Wayne really wanted in he would have gotten in. He was too concerned about his career. Face it because it's true.
You are arguing about a man who is not even here to defend himself. John Wayne has been dead for years, is it really worth arguing over? Are you making a dime for comparing him to Jimmy Stewart just because he didn't get involved in the war? There is many other actors who didn't get involved in WW2 and still showed pride for their country. You can argue it all day and badmouth someone who is dead, but at the end of the day the fact is John Wayne LOVED America.
@Dealyplaza Please, a left-winger whiner like you would have spat on Jimmy Stewart's uniform. You use Stewart, a Republican to go after Wayne, another Republican?
That's Democrat logic for you. Wait, that's an Oxymoron. You go back to your Sean Penn, and others of you ilk, who would be fit to shine John Wayne's boots, you gutless wonder.
@TiminPhoenix For the benefit of the Independents here, could you Democrats and Republicans please keep the bickering to a minimum? It was funny, at first, but now it's just sickening.
Please, can't we just enjoy this clip from an American classic?
@DarthChuckwa Mine was a response to an attack on Wayne. As to you and your brave stance on being an Indendent, it's been said that an Independent isn't worth a warm pitcher of spit.
And I'm sorry you find it sickening. Does loud noises make you wet yourself? Do you scare easy or get a headache if "mommy and daddy" are fighting?
It's a comment board. There is going to be some disagreements. If you can't deal with it, log off and play with a kitten or something.
@TiminPhoenix My, my...I ask for a little harmony and this is what I get? No wonder you Democrats and Republicans can't get along. As soon as it even looks like some one might oppose your views, you dismiss and insult them.
As to my stance on being an Independent: I, unlike people such as your good self, realize that this country was founded, at least partially, on the idea of compromise. Dems and Reps these days are paralyzing our government with petty bickering and name-calling.
@DarthChuckwa No, you tried to tell someone on a comment board what to say. And as to being a so called Independent, they tend to fall into two groups. In the first group are the truly insipid who don't have a clue as to the issues and takes everything on a whim, or forms their opinion based on what the latest poll is, what ever or whomever is chic at the moment. The other "Independent" is actually partisian. They simply like to hide it and seek to come off as above politics.
@TiminPhoenix I didn't tell anyone what to say. I asked if the Dems and Reps would be kind enough to keep the bickering to a minimum while I enjoyed a clip from a classic.
Also, you really shouldn't generalize using "There are two kinds of X: those who Y and those who Z." That formula is easily proven wrong. Thinking in dualities is convenient but it's not how the world works. That is to say, although you may be right about some independents, you're very wrong about others.
The "hero" who took a marriage deferment and continually avoided service so he wouldn't lose his career? He then divorced 2 days after the war ended. He was a Hollywood "hero" people. Not a real hero. The real heroes are serving in harms way today and everyday.
@Dealyplaza John Wayne gave and still gives hope to people, he IS a true hero. I would never take anything away from our troops, ever, but Wayne is a figurehead. The marriage deferment was his studios idea, after loosing Gene Autry, they didn't want another movie star to go into the Army, John wanted to go, he loved his country, and he told it as he saw it, he was a mans man, and a true American hero. You shouldn't come to a John Wayne video to talk badly about the man. you troll.
@spike284 A man's man? How would you know? Like I said a "Hollywood hero". It's amazing how many people will buy into the hype and marketing of movie stars. You realize he was not actually a cowboy? Nor did he serve at Iwo Jima. John Ford used to call him a pussy on set for not serving his country and would make him practically cry. He was no hero.
@Dealyplaza No? Really? He wasn't really at Iwo Jima???? He wasn't a cowboy???? Before you decide to try feebly to insult someones intelligence, i suggest you come into the battle armed instead of just being an annoyance and, frankly, making yourself look like an ass. If you actually read my comment,, that is, if you can read, you would see that I know he was a movie star...and I'd love to see a citation proving that Ford called him a pussy. And he was a Hero. Mine. Fuck off, pilgrim.
You can say whatever you like about actors like Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. But as far as I’m concerned John Wayne was the classic all-American hero. Whether it was a war movie, a western, or courtroom drama, nobody stood taller than the Duke. He set the standard for all others to follow.
If John wayne had been President, the "War on Terrotism" would have finished soon after the Twin Towers fell...............How soon........................How long does it take to launch a Nuclear Missile.....................thats how soon................HE WOULD NOT HAVE PISSED ABOUT WITH MINOR SKIRMISHES, it would have been short, sharp and DEFINITELY FINAL !!
...of all time!!! Trivia: This is the only instance that the Duke EVER used the word, "pilgrim" in any movie. He's eluding to the fact that this guy he's about to belt is a settler, not a cowboy, and so "pilgrim" is a euphemism for "transient". Funnily enough, because the fight scene that follows is so amazing and this McLintock quote was so well-loved, "pilgrim" became part of the John Wayne lexicon.
A president is a president. regardless of his political affiliations, John Wayne was an outstanding american. The very fact that he was so humble not to run for political office shows what kind of man he was. And I'm guessing you'd think Alec Baldwin would be a great choice for president. Prick.
@ICLAIMTHISNAME *sighs* i don't know much about presidents and political business, but ultimately it was John Wayne's choice about what he did in his life. for all we know he just loved acting and never though of becoming a president. and what you(iclamthisname) said about "conservative", i would think that title would have been given to a president by now.
I was looking for the "Pilgrim you better change your occupation clip" But this is Seriously Good John Wayne, he epitomised good principles. Thanks so much
