Shoji Nishio Sensei was a true genius, taking principles from other martial arts like iaido, karate, and judo and integrating it into his aikido. He got a lot of flak cuz he didn't do what they did in Aikikai Hombu but apparently Osensei told Nishio Sensei that he was the future of aikido. Osensei and Nishio Sensei, among others, were true mixed martial artists, integrating different arts into their principle of a loving budo.
Having had the opportunity to join two weekly seminars with Nishio sensei in Munich, I know, how much my aikido has been able to really advance. He really makes you understand the idea behind the technique. What a great loss for the budo-world! Try to practise it yourself. RW
