  • Why do good women love bad men???

  • "But you must always know how long to stay....and when to go."

"It took a while to understand the beauty of just letting go...."

There is power in the truth of these words. I've always loved their music, and this song in particular. I play it when I need to be reminded that closing doors isn't always negative, and that letting go is necessary sometimes in order to liberate your heart from pain. Sing on ladies...sing on.

  • Dear Ex,

Liars dont get far...which is why I was always 3 steps forward...but sadly i was in love and ignored it. Im the bigger person; I let you choose. Now, when you come back (which you will).....the woman you knew who forgave you and cried seeing you coming back will be long gone; infact I dont know her myself anymore...

  • @DemmiXxX You sound demented. Get some help.

  • The chicks def brought out the country in this song

  • Patty!! Great version!

  • I'm trying to recall where I heard this first. Patty Griffin. This is a super version.

  • Its better by Pattie Griffin.

  • @mbsnyderc hahah you said peter

  • toby keith is a sell out, drives a ford because they gave hime one and he plays

a takaminie, Buy American yea, but heh only certain people are privy to opinions

  • @kkdiddyify He said from his pc mostly manufactured in Asia. LOL. You're funny.

  • I hope they stay the hell outta Texas..Those damn redneck idiots do not deserve these Ladies. No Offense all you Texans but ,...the rest of the states think you guys love death penalty and white power and will not think outside the box and accept anything not red white and redneck.

  • i learned about them in choir

  • Eww..

Toby Keith is so much better.

  • @buddy31tide what's wrong with being a liberal?

  • they are so good...why do they have to be liberals? WHY???????

  • @buddy31tide Who cares? They are awesome. They aren't really that bad of liberals, they just disagreed with Bush which most people do anyway.

  • I let him fly ~ He tried to fly back!

  • freak123698; Never say never~ I believe I HAVE found the ONE! Been dating 10 weeks now...and IT'S ALL GOOD! NEVER NEVER NEVER BEEN THIS HAPPY!!!

  • I miss the Dixie Chicks. They were the best. And, when they were dissapointed in Bush, I was too! Why do politics ruin everything?

  • @mywolflinkin And boy, did it EVER turn out they were right....

  • @AbsentWithoutLeaving About what? The comment in London that she insisted was a JOKE? (you can hear her actually say this in THEIR OWN MOVIE). The apology right after? The first stateside interview where they said they wouldn't use the stage for their religious or political beliefs and that wasn't what she was doing that night? Ohhh, you're a latecomer. I get it. YOU THINK she meant it because after a year of insisting it wasn't a true sentiment, she changed her mind. Absent? Yep, I believe it.

  • @Therealmensa Hey, mensa-mensa - I wasn't speaking to you. Go sit in your corner and behave yourself.

  • I love every Dixie Chicks song, even before Natalie Maines, when Laura Lynch was the singer... except this song.

  • @OTCDF Wow really?

  • @Godsmessenger3 Yet u took time out to find their music to spit hate. Pity your life sucks so bad

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs!!

  • LET HIM FLY YEAH LOL

  • the dixie chicks never let you down, their songs are always so beautiful and touching, i love the dixie chicks and always will! <3

  • i love dixie chicks i miss their music i love there music

  • Can someone hit the mute button

  • so, someone called this larceny by the DCs. I supposed all the thousands of other groups who've ever covered a song--including those by Patty Griffin--have done the same even though they've legally done so, as opposed to those who've downloaded songs for free? hmm?

Meaning, it's not "larceny" to cover a song...still upset with the DC's for their stand? give it up and move on.

  • @mrdogpatch

I agree - I think it shows their admiration for the great Patty Griffin and gave her songs a lot more exposure and won her some more fans .

  • After losing my husband of 28 yrs, I thought I'd found my "2nd love". But, sadly I was wrong. After 2 yrs & 2 days....I'M GONNA LET HIM FLY~~

You can't build a life with someone who LIES~ Sad for him. Even his friends will turn from him, when they realize he lies continually to them. Liars are dangerous people to be around. . . but more than that; they are just sad sad insecure people.

  • @jennahaw i realy hope you find "THE ONE" oh look u made me cry i wish the best for you

  • @jennahaw im so sorry.

  • @jennahaw I'm your 2nd love

  • @jennahaw Amen !!

  • I have loved the dixie chicks since I was 2, still do!

  • This is weird for me because they actually did it exactly like Patty, not even putting their usually twist on it... but it's not as good as Patty's so to me it's a pointless cover. Taking advantage of a less mainstream artist's great music and go figure, people think it's theirs. Give this back to Patty and Landslide back to Stevie.

  • Cover tune. Typical larceny by the DC's.

  • @Therealmensa Um, way over half the music biz is covers, you dolt. They pay for the rights to cover the song. So in your world view, no one has the right to sing a song but the person who wrote it and/or first performed it? Well, that leaves out most of the great music that exists. Enjoy your little tiny world.

    Mensa, huh? Right.

  • @AbsentWithoutLeaving Um, you can count the original songs written by the Nat version DC's on half the fingers of one hand, dolt. Name an A-list band that has released as many albums and produced so few original songs. Here, let me give you a hand with that: Milli Vanilli. Can't think of any others, can you? Go ahead, find someone, dolt. Enjoy your biased little world. Absent, huh? Yep, I'm believing it.

  • @Therealmensa Behind all the hate-babble, I notice that you still didn't address the fact that 'covers' (ie. performers performing work they did not themselves write or score) drive the music business. Doh.

  • @AbsentWithoutLeaving That isn't a FACT anymore than you could name even ONE A-list group that made it on the backs of cover tunes. You live in a made up world that is full of non-facts you believe are true. Let me help you; go to a legitimate top 100 site, search everyone there and see if they arrived without original material in abundance. You can't, but I don't expect you to go out of your way and actually find REAL facts. You are disconnected from the real world. Shallow, and pitiful.

  • @Therealmensa Okay, menso, somebody (I guess it had better be you) better get busy notifying every symphony orchestra, every choral group, every opera singer, every string quartet, every singer who ever got famous singing Broadway show tunes, every virtuoso performer that ever lived, performed, and recorded, that their careers are based on larceny. Let us all know when you're done.

Okay, this dead horse ain't goin' nowhere - I'm out.

  • @AbsentWithoutLeaving RIght, like that's what you were talking about. Adios, absent.

  • first time hearing this song and i love it!

  • @daddycala It's too bad its not their song.

  • This song is amazing...never gets old!

  • <3 the dixie chicks forever!!!

  • so hard to let go. started when i was 16 18 years ago....tried so hard and he did also.....but abuse is not acceptable anymore....time to let him fly...Lord please give me the strength I need through this

  • it sucks because i have to let him go. my friend says out of sight out of mind. but i hold on like there's no tomorrow but he never will. so as these tears stream down my face. i can say i already tried all that...

  • the dixie chicks are my idle for singing and im really good now

  • This was my favourite song back then.

  • @daddycala

    It's not a Chick's song - it's a Patty Griffin song. But they do it well. :)

  • Try Patty Griffin. She sang this before either of those groups and much much better.

  • jessica simpson did a cover of this. its not bad~

  • @leeyuri1 did she actually "cover" it or did she cry through the first few verses and stop?

  • who the hell are the dixie chicks? are they like from 2005?

sorry to u fans hwo read this comment but hey! im only 13! i was only like 8 when this probably came out

  • @lillia09 YES THEY WERE OUT WHEN U WERE VERY YOUNG IF YOUR ONLY 13 BUT THEY ARE VERY GOOD! JUST LISTEN TO SOME OF THEIR OTHER MUSIC "TRAVELING SOLIDER" IS A REALLY GOOD ONE AND "YOU WERE MINE" THEY HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF HITS BUT THEY PISSED A BUNCH OF PEOPLE OFF WHEN TALKING ABOUT GEORGE BUSH BUT I AGREE WITH WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT HIM! ANYWAY JUST LOOK INTO THEM I THINK U WILL LIKE THEM THEY STOPPED MAKING MUSIC A FEW YEARS BACK BUT REALLY WISH THEY WOULD MAKE A COME BACK THAT BE SO GREAT!

  • @Killadust oh ok ill try! thanx for not yelling at me for saying who are the dixie chicks? others would've been pissed!

  • @Killadust THey tried, and failed.

  • @lillia09 You don't know who they are? did you find this song randomly?

  • @tfashion19 yup.....

  • @lillia09 No worries. Welcome to GOOD music. :)

  • When I had to say good-bye, this song gave me strength. Actually, it was the entire Fly album that gave me wings, so to speak. I love the Dixie Chicks. There is so much soul and strength ( and with a cute dose of mischief sometimes) in their music. The are incredible artists. And, they handled the controversy with such grace. I love them. Did I already say that?

  • "It would take an acrobat an I've already tried all that,I'm gonna let him" I can relate to this song in so many ways its unreal,

  • @daddycala - It's pretty odd that you would say only diehard Dixie Chicks fans know about this song... seeing as it was originally written and recorded by Patty Griffin. Might help knowing a bit about the song, or music in general for that matter, before making extremely obtuse comments on such a predominant MUSIC forum. All you have done is proven that you are attempting to lead us all to believe you actually know what you're talking about... which obviously isn't the case.

  • I am a man. Some men live in such denial. They live everyday to keep up the lie. Women who desire truth should live the truth as well. Men can be very egocentric especially if they lack a spititual intellect. Fools we are when we create a world of lies.

  • @daddycala does that mean i'm d die hard fan ???

  • Patty Griffin wrote this song, and her version is by far better. Good try Iguess though..

  • i sooo love you ladies....and everyone wants you back!!! plz come back dixie chicks!

  • @daddycala im not a diehard fan.

  • It's actually a Patty Griffin song, not Dixie Chicks, but they do a great cover of it - just beautiful. Check out Patty Griffin for more of her powerful songs & lyrics...

  • It's amazing to consider the sublimity of these artists compared to the idiocy of the mouth-breathers who villified them

  • So everyone knows, this isn't the "Let Him Fly" video. It's the "You Were Mine" video without the music but "Let Him Fly" played instead.

  • :( busted guitars and alchaholisim is a good reason to let him fly?

  • This version is way better than Jessica Simpson's.

  • @trooper5930 jessica who? LOL

  • I miss the Dixie Chicks soooo bad ..... It makes me so mad as if anyone has the right to judge them really!? like non of us has ever said things like that before? I hope that someday they can come back to Texas .... The sisters did start their own band it is very nice but its just not the same dont have the same kick like the Dixie Chicks

  • @Nala622 They had every right to say what they did. This is supposed to be America right? They became such great artists because of their music and talent. Who cares about the politics involved?

  • @amberjade11 Politiics didn't have anything to do with them getting tossed. They had the right to say whatever they wanted, and they exercised without restraint or infringement. So did their ex-fans. Democracy. Get used to it. By the way, the DC's have no inalienable right to popularity or profit.

  • @Therealmensa How do you figure politics had nothing to do with it? It was their political views that made people angry. No one said their ex-fans didn't have a right to say what they wanted I just think that it's stupid to boycott an artist because you disagree with their political views. Their fans bought their CDs because they enjoyed their music-the fact that NM is ashamed George W or they think TK's song is ignorant shouldn't matter if they were true fans.

  • @amberjade11 Again, they didn't have a "political view". She was pandering. It was a JOKE. Who says? Natalie Maines did, and did so repeatedly. No one asked Maines for her opinion of TK's song. She bashed him only because, for the first time, the DC's released a single and it didn't go to no. 1. TK was at #1 and the DC's had stalled at #14. The MILLIONS who were fans before YOU know why she did it, and her bashing on London was the last straw for many. You're an ignorant latecomer, that's all.

  • @Therealmensa Have you read the comments on this video? You think it wasn't about politics-but apparently you are the only one. Maybe you don't undersatnd what politics consist of .

  • @amberjade11 "Kingsley: Do you think you underestimated the way a statement from you can resonate around the world?

Maines: Oh, my God, yes. We never in a million years knew people were listening to what we said. Like Emily said, we never use the stage as a place to preach our political beliefs or spiritual beliefs. And we still won't. And that's not what I was doing that night either."- Syndicated radio interview with Bob Kingsley, 4/24/03

Even Maines said it wasn't. Comprehension problem?

  • Took awhile to understand the beauty of just letting go....cause it would take an acrobat and I already tried all that..I'm gonna let him fly.....best break up song EVER!

  • @Nala622 what is the name of the sister group please?

  • We are missing out on a great trio. So...what do y'all think now...?

  • Even though it is in black and white they are all so beautiful in this video

  • I hope thats not real fur...

  • Awesome video...have you seen Crystal Bowersox sing 'Crazy' by Gnlarls Barkley? It's soooooo good? You can watch it on my channel as the featured vid...

  • This is a PATTY GRIFFIN song... and no one will ever do it better... sorry, I love the Dixie Chicks, but they just don't compare.

  • Singjira Pull the Dick outta ur ass And Get over it Bush is a Fat Bastard Who should never have been President, The Offered money cause its the right thing Bush is too much of a stuborn Ass to take it Oh fckn Well

  • this song has me crying all over my keyboard an mouse....i was married for 7 years and my husband just walked away from all of his responsibilities though i cant put all of the blame on him ....but i guess it is wat it is .......guess ill let em fly

  • @LADYDIVAA same happen to me 7 years 2 kids later. but i dont want a cheater fly fly away.

  • aint no way 2 understand stupid words of pride.....it'll take an acrobat i already tried all that....im gonna let him fly..... im in love w/ this song....it hits so close 2 home....

  • i love this song....i can really relate 2 it in many aspects of life not just w/ boyfriends....i miss how big the dixie chicks used 2 b!!!

  • what a beauty!!!

  • x-husband jim

  • X- husband

  • SingJiya.. You dont even have an educated opinion about the Dixie Chics, you think all your racial comments are funny when you proof read dont you. Well, you really need to research your history before you go posting comments. You and the whole country knows Bush did not respond to the War on Terror like he should have. And the Natalie simply called him on it. White Robes... Please, Grow UP!!

  • @dirtsgrl1 Another Dickseechick fan, oh brother. Come on she blew it and you know it, that why they are having a hard time performing at a country fair. They tried to give a million dollars cause they knew they were wrong but guess what Bush said we dont need your dirty money.

  • Problem is that Bush is a man of God and since the Dixie Chicks serve Darkness they wanted Satan to be their President. Well guess what, now they have the Evil One in Office and the USA is 4 times more in dept since he became President, funny that their Grandparents are the ones running around with white hood over there heads. Anyway Country folks are hip to them that is why no one plays their music. They just Killed there Career.

  • @SingJiya Are you kidding me shut the fuck up

  • @SingJiya Dude, dont start talkin crap like that on here, that is considered harrassment so keep your racist comments to yourself, they are not appreciated. If you arent going to say something nice, dont fckin comment.

BTW I LOVE THIS SONG!! you did a good job on the video, hun =D

  • OMG , I love this song ! I heart the Dixie Chicks !!!!!

  • This song is beautiful. Please watch my version and let me know what you think! Thanks :]

  • I disagree Pigiron....Natalie rocks this song in way that is all hers. even though it's the wrong video, love watching and listening to the Chicks

  • Not as good as Patty herself in either singing or instrument play. You can disagree, but you'd be wrong.

  • @Pugiron To hear Natalie Maines real voice, watch the GAP Xmas video. Sony took two years training her to be onstage, and she still turned out to be just a fat mouthy trailer trash singer who was mediocre at best.

  • @ chacon0767 - u cant rly compare. jess did it with tears n true emotions .. the dixie chicks did it with no emotion but its still kinda good. :)

  • Could the words possibly be more disconnected from the video images? Yikes!

  • that's the video for "you were mine"

  • Check out this great song I found by this guy JOhnnie Panzani called "stay"...I really liked it :)

  • i saw jessicas verison first i loved it. i feel like this version shes rushing it and it sounds akward..

  • i completely agree!

  • If i would compare the two versions, i would choose Jessica's version, because she sang it from the heart, it was recorded after her relationship with Nick ended.. so it became so much personal when performed.. check out when she crys while singing this song..amazing

  • Comment removed

  • How many of Patty Griffin's songs have they covered?! Let Him Fly and Top of the World, I know... hmm. I like both versions. I LOVE Patty Griffin though, so that's where my preference lies.

  • Pugiron is absolutely correct. Natalie is not in the same league as Patty she knows it. It's typical of the masses to prefer the dull and mundane....

  • always will love the dixie chicks!!!!

  • the video doesnt match with the song ._.

    wht video song is that?

  • This song would be great, if Patti Griffith's original version wasn't so much better. Natalie can NOT compete with her voice, and the song works much better with just once voice and one guitar played to a minimum.

  • i love the lyrics!! (deep) !!!!

  • stop listening then!

  • always loved this song, now i can actually relate to it.... "i already tried all that, im gonna let him fly"..... too true.

  • i loved him but i got to let him go sooner or later. I'd rather it be sooner but i dont know how i loved him to much

  • my mom loves this song .me too

  • Loved this forever...now put it into practice!

  • I liked the video with the song. Awesome. Good job.

  • I love this song....

    So Sad =(

  • hahahahhaah

  • My mom cried to this.

Shes getting a divorce with my daddy:'(

  • aww...

  • this is the best version i've heard. i love the dixie chicks, they have such passion towards their songs :) - LOVE them!

  • A great version. Thanks to the Chicks. They showed me that I loved Patti Griffin.

  • I like the Patty Grifith but Dixie Chicks also do good. Simpsons sucked

  • He Cursed Me !!!

    :(

  • Patty's is obviously the best. I like the harmony in this version. The only thing that feels off his natalie is too strong-voiced. I mean, this song is partly about vulnerability. That's why it's so perfectly suited for Patty. Her voice is strong -- but soft and meek at the same time. As for Simpson's version. Didn't like it at all. The singing was okay. And I believe she truly felt the song -- but her stylings, her affectations and that weird "mouth thing" she does is just annoying.

  • Amazing song but I gotta say Patty's original version is much, much better.

  • This song is really beautiful. Natalis's voice is wanderful. I love It.

  • when my dad used to get violent I wondered why my mother stayed with him, and it was this song written from a woman's perspective that showed me that unconditional love is all you can offer. The part that kills me is "stupid words of pride."

  • i love this song i can't believe jessica simpson fucked it up

  • im not a jessica simpson fan, but i certainly do not think she fucked it up, she gave it a different perspective a much younger one.

  • nah. she messed it up without depth

  • LOL I know !

  • This version is good. Patty Griffin's is still the best, though.

  • jessica simpson's cover is ridiculously silly

  • I think it's too funny that people think they can actually compare Jessica's voice to Natalie's. There is no comparison what so ever. The Dixie Chicks are extremely talented!

  • I mean let's get real people. I love Jessica Simpson as much as the next chick, but when God gave out voices, come on, Natalie got the lion's share. She doesn't have to sing as well as Natalie to still be good. But really, Natalie is way better.

  • I agree, Jessica had to work EXTREMELY hard to get her voice where it is. Natalie was born and opened her mouth.

  • jessica simpson sucks ass compared to the dixie chicks :)

i love this song they do the best version :)

  • i love jessica's cover of it better cause its more sad..more peaceful..

  • jessica simpson sucks ass compared to the dixie chicks

jessica simpson doesnt even know how to sing in my oppinion but hey amyny people love her just nott me

to me she is a fke wanna be country star

    a big no no

and doesnt matter who didi this song first the dixie chicks do it the best :)
