@h8tebred The accuracy was in saying it was to close to call. Some people said Gore, Fox News said Bush, and a recount that was a plaiged with contravercy, all contributed to the Supreme Court making the dissition of who was the president, and it was not the president-elect.

Vice President Al Gore wouldn't have conceded the race if he still had a way to over come the republican controlled US supreme court. Vice President Gore was elected president on 11/7/00.
Al Gore would've given a victory speech that night if something called the fox news didn't have a panic/meltdown like Jeb! Al Gore was elected president.
So I suppose you are hopeful for a 2012 that look like 1980? Quite different situations. 1968 the democratic party fractured along various fault lines that just couldn't be ignored. Southern whites and northern liberals couldn't fit into the same party any longer. I'd argue 2008 showed a similar fracturing among the Republicans. Northern moderates became democrats or are being run out of the party, libertarians don't like social conservatives and they are split between Christians and Mormons.
That is a good point, but if the Democrats are to stay in power, they need to capitalize on that. The upper South like Virginia and North Carolina and trending more Democratic, but still has that conservative habit. Liberals are moving into the state, blacks remain loyal, and Virginia's latino population is growing like a beast.
Gore didn't win his home state because they didn't really like him =/
Tenessee was ruined because of Al Gore.
Bad Economy (because of GLOBAL WARMING)
Education possibly went down and much more.
America does have the lowest form of education due to the intense Government spending. I really do believe we should fix our education system and everything else and boot the government out!
"10 teachers had to be laid off at my school" .. by contrast the private sector is laying off few or no people? How would you guarantee a quality education for all young people if the government wasn't involved? Why are the best public schools by most objective measurements in New England, a region in which more money is spent by the government on schools? In other regions education used to only be available to those who had money or connections, would we want to return to that?
You don't seem to remember The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, which was created by John McCain and Ted Kennedy. You seem to have not noticed the increase of drop outs since then. Bills like these is the reason why America has such a large drop out rate, the reason why a lot of schools get shut down, and also the reason why teachers get fired. If a student fails they blame the schools and the teachers, they don't blame the student for not doing their job.
Well... I would argue that it is likely a mix of student, parent, and teachers at fault for the problems we are finding in the schools. So, blaming the students isn't always the right approach either. The underlying problems need to be addressed.. I agree that the above bill appears not to have accomplished that, I think largely due to its reliance on standardized tests. Obama has promised to switch this focus, I hope that he is able to do so.
ahahah poor baby Libs can't get a grip on reality? Grow up and accept the fact Bush won 2000 and 2004, it took 8yrs of Clinton doing nothing that got Bush elected. All Clinton did was ask for BJs.
I wonder how many Republican votes were lost in the pandandle region when all of the networks called Florida for Gore early. I wonder how many voters stayed home in the last hour of voting after the call was made.
It seems illogical that many (if any) votes were lost. The networks called it wrongly 12 minutes before the polls closed in the panhandle. Can't believe there were many people watching election coverage when they hadn't voted yet, but were planning to.
Not many! The pools in the panhandle were only open 11 more minutes after the networks called Florida for Gore. The pools in the panhandle closed at 8ET and they called Florida for Gore at A7:49 ET
I think the Electoral college allow the states to choose the President . I agree with thsi . we are a federation or a Representative Republic. We are not a pure democracy. This means we are a consensus based system not a mob based system. Getting the most states should be how we elect the president not if you can win all the cities. A president should get broad support over many demographics not just run up numbers in one area. Im for the Electoral College. Keep American a federal republic .

So there you have it --- the mainstream media was behind Gore all the way, deceitfully calling Florida way before the polls had closed on the western panhandle of the state in hopes that Republican voters there would just stay home (since the networks were lying through their teeth giving Florida to Gore). Total, unabashed, pro-Democrat media biased. Existed in 2000 and before, was so very tangible in '08. The media was complicit with The Gore campaign in attempting to steal the 2000 election.
Each state would get one vote, and each state's vote would be determined by their Representatives in the House. If a candidate earned a majority (26) of the State Delegations in the newly elected House of Representatives, then that candidate would become President-Elect.
Had Gore won Florida and Bush won Pennsylvania, that exact scenario would have played out. Bush would have had 269 electoral votes, and Gore would have had 268 due to a member of the electoral college abstaining her vote in the District of Columbia.
@stage51manager Technically, it depends on how the election for the House goes in 2012, because the new House would vote for President if the Electoral College ties. However, each state would get one vote (50 total), and the new House delegation from each state would decide how their state would vote. So, the one House member from Alaska would vote GOP, and the majority in the New York delegation vote for President Obama, and it would be tied 1-1. To be continued...
@stage51manager I don't know for sure, but my guess is that the Democrats would have to win the House by at least 20, if not 40 seats for them to have a majority of "State Delegations." If the Democrats win the House back, AND have a 20-40 seat majority, I'd bet a lot of money that the President has already won a comfortable re-election. His best bet for re-election is to get 270 electoral votes.
@stage51manager I remember back in 2004, that Fox News and NBC (and MSNBC) called Ohio for Bush at about 1am EST while the other networks (ABC, CBS, CNN) held off. Meanwhile, those that called Ohio did not call Nevada for Bush. The three that did not call Ohio, eventually called Nevada for Bush. The networks that made the decision to call Ohio had Bush at 269 electoral votes, and their late-night coverage was a bit different because the House was clearly GOP and Bush would win a 269 tie.
@mattiewallace Thanks for the info! Been watching presidental elections since 96. I remember very well 2000, 2004, and 2008. I wish Gore would of won in 2000,oh wait a minute. Gore won....anyways I wish we had a President Gore, from 2001-2009, then we would've President Lieberman. 1st Jewish President Laugh out Loud! Thanks for these uploads brings a lot of memories, keep up the good work. Happy face : )
The polls close in most of Florida at 7pm EST. The networks used to have a policy of calling a state when 75% of the polls in a state had closed. This is why networks used to call Indiana and Kentucky at 6pm EST. Following the Florida fiasco in 2000, when a tight state was called while some polls were still open, the networks now do not call a state until all the polls are closed. The networks used to call Alaska at 12am EST, they now do at 1am because of the Aleutian Islands.
No, all the Bush administration did is lie to voters. They used 'Gay Marriage' as an attack against Kerry. It was a dirty attack, but Kerry should have seen it coming. Honestly, both of the Democratic nominees in 00' and 04' should have seen it coming. They weren't aggressive against Bush, so they lost. Trust me, I hate Bush as much as the next guy, but it wasn't completely voter fraud.
Just so you know McCain was the keynote speaker at one of the rallies and acorn is registration fraud case NOT voter fraud issue , the people registered could never vote , besides have you seen the polls just before the election ? they were accurate , Obama was ahead and won , did you really think McCain was going to win ? he was down by over 6 points and he was trailing Obama in the states he lost , the polls were very accurate , there is no way you could accuse Obama of cheating .
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No. I guess when people illegally go to other states to vote for obama so that that state will go Democrat, that makes him win, too. So it wasn't only ACORN. There were quite a few illegal activities with the obama campaign. If YOU can say Bush cheated to win the election, I can say obama cheated. Registering people 70+ times to vote REALLY changes the election... Quite a bit, actually.
I tend to think that people watching their 401(k)s plunging by 40% due to the criminal incompetence of the Bush Administration had something to do with Obama winning by 7%.
65-35? You need to take some basic math classes. The best the Reich Wing can hope for in the next 40 years is 47%. Bush 2004 will be a Rethuglican high water mark for a long, long time.
I don't remember Gore getting Florida, but I heard about Gore winning Florida. Later, it was taken from him a given to Bush, which got him to win the presidency. My mom said that it made her so angry.
You stupid liberals. If Al Gore won his HOME STATE of Tennessee he would have won. He couldn't even his home state!!! If Al Gore won, maybe we wouldn't be stuck the socalist we are going to get !!!!
I tend to be a media basher. In all fairness, though, the networks called the state for Gore approximately ten minutes before the polls closed in the Panhandle.
This isn't the first election this has happened either. There have actually been a few (but not quite a few) where the winner of the popular vote didn't get the electoral vote. An interesting fact for the day. But yeah, we should get rid of the electoral college.
How would the citizens in rural areas get their voices heard? The electoral college was implemented so that the areas with the bigger populations won't determine the elections. You have to have a even divide.
But in a majority of the elections the winner does have a plurality of the popular vote. It isn't a rare occurence for someone to win both the electoral and popular votes. I fail to see how getting rid of the electoral college will give urban areas more power and rural areas less. I guess it would be a headache counting each vote and adding up math by the millions instead of hundreds, but it would still be fair.
Im gonna start listening got Rush Limbaugh now, the next 4 years of his "waaah waaaah waaahh" after listening to his hypocritial crap the last few months will be music to my ears.
Makes you wonder how GWB could be so cocky and say he knew he would get FL, waaaay before the election. Makes you wonder what dirty tricks thye had in place. Hey, its happened before, Bush took a page from Nixons dirty pool play book.
This 2000 election left a very bitter taste in my mouth, because I voted for Gore and the GOP stole this election.
However, I am very happy that I can look back on this 2000 election and laugh, now that Barack Obama won Florida (and OH and PA, BTW), on his way to victory in the 2008 Election. And yes, I did vote for Obama.
Also, when Obama won PA, Chris Matthews remarked that McCain's campaign crashed....it burned when Obama won Ohio (what now, Joe The Plumber?). :-)
If Gore or Kerry had won then Obama would never of been president in 2008..So be happy...I don't think you understand what happened in 2000, Bush didn't steal the election. The networks all declared Gore the winner before the people in the panhandle had finished voting..They also said at 7:00 that the polls had closed in Florida when they were open to 8:00 in the panhandle which voted overwhelmingly for Bush and many didn't bother voting because they thought the polls were close and Bush had lost
Then there's those 26,000 votes in that butterfly ballot which CLEARLY were wildy for Gore over Bush, which screwed over the Dems far worse than the Panhandle fiasco did the GOP. Sorry pal. Gore got hosed here.
You're an idiot, how could they possibly have screwed bush had Gore won? He didn't even have the votes in Florida, Gore did, Gore's brother wasn't governor of the place, runner of the polls wasn't a supporter of his, no one would be complaining they rigged it, they rigged 2004, why the frick try to win it back next time if they're just gonna Fk us again? 8 fkin years, Clinton did a hell of a good job, Gore would have too, Sure he got a blowjob, but he was a hell of a leader...
Situations like this are why I wish they would not make early predictions. Wait for the accuracy.

In Ohio, by closing the polls very early!
Michthemitch 3 years ago
No, all the Bush administration did is lie to voters. They used 'Gay Marriage' as an attack against Kerry. It was a dirty attack, but Kerry should have seen it coming. Honestly, both of the Democratic nominees in 00' and 04' should have seen it coming. They weren't aggressive against Bush, so they lost. Trust me, I hate Bush as much as the next guy, but it wasn't completely voter fraud.

they declared Gore the winner before they counted the votes of a heavily republican area of Florida

So all tv stations were wrong ?? come on , of couse Bush cheated .. only idiots would believe Bush actually won Florida.
oevermoerkavann 3 years ago
And Obama didn't cheat, right?
mccainorobama 3 years ago
No , Obama did NOT cheat in order to win ,he was far ahead in the polls he won in LANDSLIDE.

So ACORN registering thousands of people 70 times to vote Obama isn't cheating? And Obama giving ACORN money isn't cheating?
Bush didn't cheat. There is no truthful evidence to suggest he did.
You can thank voter fraud for Obama's victory.
mccainorobama 3 years ago
Just so you know McCain was the keynote speaker at one of the rallies and acorn is registration fraud case NOT voter fraud issue , the people registered could never vote , besides have you seen the polls just before the election ? they were accurate , Obama was ahead and won , did you really think McCain was going to win ? he was down by over 6 points and he was trailing Obama in the states he lost , the polls were very accurate , there is no way you could accuse Obama of cheating .
oevermoerkavann 3 years ago
You're telling me ACORN was responsible for the entirety of Obama's TEN MILLION VOTE margin of victory over John S. McCain?!
No, the only way to manufacture a TEN MILLION VOTE margin is to get TEN MILLION MORE AMERICANS to vote for you.
amarrao95 3 years ago

For real! How can you FAKE TEN MILLION VOTES? How the fuck can you?
sirpsychosexay 3 years ago
Obama won in a electoral landslide. You lefties bitch and moan when Gore wins the popular and loses the electoral. You can't have it both ways.
McCain and Bush both would have won 65-35% if they had fair media coverage.
Obama outspending McCain 4-1, and having the mainstream media in the tank for him makes it pathetic he didn't win by these 20 point margins predicted.
tommygun6644 3 years ago
Obama also WON the popular vote by ten million votes with a record total of 69.5 million votes.
Bush LOST the 2000 popular vote by 0.5 million votes.
It's funny how things go wrong when the people don't have their say.
amarrao95 3 years ago 3
That's funny.
I tend to think that people watching their 401(k)s plunging by 40% due to the criminal incompetence of the Bush Administration had something to do with Obama winning by 7%.
65-35? You need to take some basic math classes. The best the Reich Wing can hope for in the next 40 years is 47%. Bush 2004 will be a Rethuglican high water mark for a long, long time.
amarrao95 3 years ago
That's right the only reason Gore lost the election is because Bush cheated.
darthnowlan 3 years ago
I don't remember Gore getting Florida, but I heard about Gore winning Florida. Later, it was taken from him a given to Bush, which got him to win the presidency. My mom said that it made her so angry.
Jimmy146 3 years ago
Well, Jimmy, your mommy was wrong. 7 recounts and 21 independent studies said so. Candidates earn votes, they are not given anything.

You stupid liberals. If Al Gore won his HOME STATE of Tennessee he would have won. He couldn't even his home state!!! If Al Gore won, maybe we wouldn't be stuck the socalist we are going to get !!!!
jjhmmr 3 years ago
actually the networks called florida and hour before the polls were even closed in the conservative parts of the state
talk about liberal media bias
thefreak985 3 years ago
I tend to be a media basher. In all fairness, though, the networks called the state for Gore approximately ten minutes before the polls closed in the Panhandle.

@thefreak985
Because Fox news calling for George W Bush wasn't biased at all... rofl.
trademestuff 1 year ago
actually, he stole it in a way.
al gore won popular vote, bush won electoral, thats why its time for us to kick out the electoral college
elevensmiles11 3 years ago 2
This isn't the first election this has happened either. There have actually been a few (but not quite a few) where the winner of the popular vote didn't get the electoral vote. An interesting fact for the day. But yeah, we should get rid of the electoral college.
sirpsychosexay 3 years ago
How would the citizens in rural areas get their voices heard? The electoral college was implemented so that the areas with the bigger populations won't determine the elections. You have to have a even divide.
cutedude22 3 years ago

Hey, its happened before, Bush took a page from Nixons dirty pool play book.

i wonder how different the world would be today if Gore won that election. Amazing i was so mad/sad when bush stole that. Stupid butterfly ballot
ruffzspree 3 years ago
This 2000 election left a very bitter taste in my mouth, because I voted for Gore and the GOP stole this election.
However, I am very happy that I can look back on this 2000 election and laugh, now that Barack Obama won Florida (and OH and PA, BTW), on his way to victory in the 2008 Election. And yes, I did vote for Obama.
Also, when Obama won PA, Chris Matthews remarked that McCain's campaign crashed....it burned when Obama won Ohio (what now, Joe The Plumber?). :-)
lovelycinnamongirl 3 years ago
If Gore or Kerry had won then Obama would never of been president in 2008..So be happy...I don't think you understand what happened in 2000, Bush didn't steal the election. The networks all declared Gore the winner before the people in the panhandle had finished voting..They also said at 7:00 that the polls had closed in Florida when they were open to 8:00 in the panhandle which voted overwhelmingly for Bush and many didn't bother voting because they thought the polls were close and Bush had lost
timsubs 3 years ago
Then there's those 26,000 votes in that butterfly ballot which CLEARLY were wildy for Gore over Bush, which screwed over the Dems far worse than the Panhandle fiasco did the GOP. Sorry pal. Gore got hosed here.

oh, ur just having hindsight. I gurantee u if bush lost and gore was a bad president you wud be saying they screwed bush over.
Deal with it and try to win it back the next election.
rockingout1018 3 years ago
You're an idiot, how could they possibly have screwed bush had Gore won? He didn't even have the votes in Florida, Gore did, Gore's brother wasn't governor of the place, runner of the polls wasn't a supporter of his, no one would be complaining they rigged it, they rigged 2004, why the frick try to win it back next time if they're just gonna Fk us again? 8 fkin years, Clinton did a hell of a good job, Gore would have too, Sure he got a blowjob, but he was a hell of a leader...
