@aigaki85 Both are great, and its a easier to get of hold of a hen pheasant then a mallard hen. Don't forget, you can use any feather that has the same shape.
A.K., I've been reading about you in John's books. I was already a fan before I even found this video. I'll be watching for more posts from you. Respond if you read this post.
Hate to break it to you Gotioz, but the europe 12-from what I know and researched-is tied with a parachute hackle, and with or without a tent style wing.
hate to break it to u guys but that fly is called europe 12 and its not an imitation of a dead caddis. its famous all over europe and actually its the best fly ever. the trout, rainbow and the grayling they all love it:D
Loved this fly!!! Great video as well. I have watched the carp rise for spent caddis flies for a long time now and while fishing a caddis adult I landed very few. The simplicity of this fly should allow everyone to carry a few. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you, AK. I am only recently starting tying but it is great to be able to see a master at work. For what it is worth, it may be beneficial to have the filming done from your perspective instead of from the opposite side of the vice. Still a great resource and thank you again.
I'm a little confused regarding your comments about seeing the action from the tyer's point of view. It IS from the tyer's point of view. I have a small camera only a few inches between his eyes and the fly he is tying. Again, thanks for your comments.
Bill - please accept my apologies for my "recommendation." As I stated earlier I am new to tying and thought that it was a different point of view. I appreciate your work and have learned quite a bit from this clip. Perhaps I can learn to look more closely before I make a "helpful" comment in the future. Thanks again for a helpful clip and again, please accept my apology.
Thank you AK. I am familiar with some of your works. Sush as books and video. I think i ordered some material from you once.Good video work and i liked the recipe at the end. Welcome to the age of video. What a great way to share and learn. Rambo might even learn something!
what kind of bodkin/scissor is that?

In the video he uses a mallard feather but at the end it recommends a blond hen pheasant flank tip. Which is better?

He makes it looks so simple. :| I wish it was that easy for me. That brings up the statement "practice makes perfect".

I don't know but it looks alot like a caddis to me. Isn't that the point? Not what its is called but what it can emulate.

Nice caddis. How will the fly hold up if the wings - feather - get wet?
